After we purposely dried out Marshland lagoon and reflooded to help keep the pool dynamic it was fantastic today to see a superb late mix of waders using it including the white-tailed lapwing, curlew sandpiper, greenshank and ruff (pic) but also little stint & grey plover.

In the 1990's as few as 11 booming male bitterns were recorded in the UK. Reed bed conservation and management on the Humber has helped numbers increase to around 191+. This one spent around 2 hours in front of reception today watching us! #nature #humber @humbernature

With so much water around the reserve is still flooded and underwater. However, the Pink-Footed Geese are enjoying the local waste sugar beet and potatoes, the arable farmland provides vital food for many thousands of wildfowl and waders around the Humber. @humbernature Sound on!

Many of our marsh harrier are becoming independent now but still a few just fledging. Final breeding data for Blacktoft, 13 pairs, 9 successful nests and 17 young fledged. 30+ young though fledged within a radius of 4km of the reserve but a bit more work to do! @humbernature

Male Barn owl this morning trying to make the most of the break in the weather to catch some much needed prey. Also of note was a Bar-tailed godwit in with the curlew and an influx of Tufted Duck and Pochard. @humbernature

Great WeBS this morning at Reads Island with just over 9K wildfowl and waders. Highlights been 1800 Avocets, 1500 Pink-Feet, 2400 Teal, 2700 Shelduck, 260 Redshank, and Curlew Sandpiper. @WeBS_UK @humbernature #EastCoastWetlands

Nice to have this colour ringed Whooper Swan roosting with 3 others this morning on Marshland lagoon. Part of this summers ringing project in Iceland, it was ringed in Miklavatn, Skagafjorour on 14th August - 1000 miles away. @KaneBrides @humbernature #Eastcoastflyway
