I am so sad to say we lost my dearly beloved Grandad on Sunday morning.
He was my favourite person in the world and I loved him so very much.
There was so much to admire about him. I will never forget him. May he rest in peace.
Beautiful. To add to the cead mile failte of no Metro and every taxi driver complaining if you want to be dropped anywhere north of the Liffey: now your family will be charged for collecting you.
By the way, amidst all else, what a hero Siobhan Kearney is. Important on nights like tonight to remember Dublin is fundamentally comprised of good people like her 👏🏻
Witness Siobhan Kearney said that she saw the incident unfold from across the road. On the man with the knife, she said that he was on the ground and there were a lot of people trying to restrain him | Read more:

Graduation day from

today 👨🏻🎓!
Nice to formally conclude my Masters in European Law and Policy - thanks to the many great people who assisted along the way.
Twitter is a confusing place.
Sorry for… er… quietly giving a small few quid to a fella raising funds for a homeless charity.
What a weird thing to get bothered about. Trawling through names of charity donors.
Minimum Unit Pricing for alcohol comes into effect this Tuesday.
It’s something I disagreed with when proposed, something I spoke against, and something I think will be deeply unpopular.
We will see just how unpopular it is from Tuesday.
An unexpected detour to Newcastle, two aborted ✈️ landings, and missed the whole first half but - 3 goals, 3 points and my first trip to Anfield complete ✅!

I always love the energy and enthusiasm that people in Sunderland put into absolutely hurtling through their count.
A great election night tradition in England.
Pointed out to a group of bemused tourists by a Viking Splash Tour guide while I was on the phone -
“There’s Noel Rock, former member of our Parliament the Dáil, pretending to do some work - 1,2,3 agggghh!”.
Person on other end of phone: “sounds about right” 😂. Mortifying.
Really happy to join the first class team

Very proud of what I managed to build on my own at Pixel, working with great companies and smart people. Looking forward to the next chapter!
Remember, whether you’re winning or losing tomorrow: it’s good to be sound.
Politics can be tough. Things don’t go your way. But life can be tough too. And it’s good to keep perspective.
Best of luck to all 💪🏻 (…except the racists)

Superb thread and answers with a few great answers and anecdotes that illuminates the reality, and difficulty, of this role. Fair play 👏🏻
Unlimited travel across Dublin urban bus, Luas, and DART for 90 minutes for just €2 starting on Monday.
That's Maynooth to Bray,
Hazelhatch to Dublin Airport,
for just €2
With a 20% reduction on bus and rail throughout the rest of the GDA also, where different fares apply.
Six months gone today. The best man I ever knew. I have no massive wisdom to offer bar…. to hug your (grand)parents close while you can. Get to know them. You can’t imagine what a hole will be left in your life. And once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Crossed a little line in the sand on Friday: got my results back for my dissertation on GDPR and the DPC.
Sadly my dear Grandad’s passing meant I had to delay by a year.
I enjoyed working on this though - and thanks to all who advised and encouraged me.
This one’s for him 🍻
This data is pre-omicron, so you could probably halve the times but still.
Look at N95 masks vs cloth masks. In Germany in September, my cloth mask was dismissed as "a toy". They weren't wrong.
A lot to be said about today and particularly this evening. No doubt plenty of analysis and hot takes. Right now, though, I’m just sad. I love Dublin. I hate seeing this.
We’re lucky to have so many great restaurants in Dublin and right around the country.
Whether it was dine inside, outside, click and collect, whatever: they’ve all worked so hard to make this year work.
Don’t forget them in January.
Whoosh. Omicron wave is coming to an end in the UK, and Ireland too.
If we’ve learned anything at this stage, it’s surely that we should make the most of these windows when they emerge (and hope, of course, that they last).
Hospitality here should reopen ASAP.
Sorry to see Leo stepping down. A good guy. Worked harder than a great many.
When things were at their worst, he was at his best, and his stewardship during the awful Covid era was leadership personified. Best of luck to him in the time ahead.
Never forget that so much of what we see and hear from this horrible war is brought to us because of the bravery of people like Brent Renaud. He’ll be remembered. RIP.
A 51-year-old New York Times correspondent Brent Renaud was shot dead in Irpen today. Another journalist was injured. Now they are trying to take the victim out of the combat zone.
Sought out the best Guinness I could find in Barcelona to mark the passing of my Grandad. Two years gone.
It’s important to pause and reflect on those we’ve lost, and on how lucky we all are to still be here. Cheers 🍻

Not a shock for anyone familiar with the City.
The need for someone to cut through the noise and properly deal with littering and antisocial behaviour in Dublin has never been clearer.
Life can change quickly. Good to look around, take stock, and be grateful for what you have at this time of year.
Be good to yourself and your loved ones.
Happy Christmas 🎄
Richard was the first politician to endorse me ahead of my first election in 2009 - a lifetime ago now.
He has always been incredibly generous with his time, a great colleague and a first-rate TD.
Wishing him the very best as he hangs up his well-worn canvassing shoes!
I always love the run up to Christmas in Dublin.
It really is great. Meeting old friends. The buzz in town.
Here’s to Dublin and to the people that make it - happy Christmas 🍻

Jesus. Sorry to read this. Politics, of course, isn’t “just a job” for anyone involved - regardless of party - but in what other role would anyone tolerate this kind of treatment of a person?! Mad.
Rory McIlroy on Phil Mickelson’s attempt to recruit PGA players for the new Saudi tour despite their horrendous human rights record: “Naive, selfish, egotistical, ignorant .. very surprising, disappointing, sad.”

Nobody elected for FG in this ward since 2009.
@lukeacorkery
worked the ground hard, earned the trust of many - and got home on the first count. All at the fine age of 22.
Mighty. One to watch.
Terribly sad and sorry to hear this. Always very fond of Michael and only spoke with him last week. Generous and compassionate is entirely appropriate - always good fun too. May he rest in peace.
Two years ago today we lost Grandad. Hard to believe. Time goes by so, so quickly.
Here he is at an event to mark the end of our time in secondary school with my Granny and my Auntie. He was always there for us all.
A great man. I miss him very much.
@aerlingus
What a farce. No food left on today’s flight - not even a bar of chocolate - as they couldn’t restock in Dublin. Even though the flight was an hour late as it was. Staff imploring us to “write it up” as they’re fed up of it happening so regularly. Says it all.
Something a bit different of a Sunday.
It’s my second time seeing Garth Brooks live - I saw him at the Obama inauguration concert in 2009 - he is a superb entertainer.
ALSO: In a significant u-turn from previous position, anyone aged 4-39 with Covid symptoms is no longer being told to avoid antigen tests - but rather to take them, and only then to seek a PCR test if one of their antigen tests returns a positive result.
Does not apply to HCWs.
My Fitbit every now and then will serve me up old text messages as if they’re new.
My Grandad always used to text me before takeoffs and after landings.
So, there was something nice about getting this one from my Grandad today before my flight, some 8 months after we lost him.
