Creator of the Forgotten Realms® and a myriad of other worlds, universes, and shared settings. Avid tea-drinker and swashbuckler. He/him, accepting of all.
I want to make it very clear that I am sorry for what occurred earlier. I want EVERYONE to feel safe and included, and I did not mean to cause any harm with my haste and negligence when promoting that tweet. Representation is so important and I want to be an ally to that ideal
1/
It’s come to my attention that I retweeted something earlier today that was harmful and offensive. We all share one planet, and there is NO place for homophobia or anti-inclusivity or even name-calling.
1)
I didn't see myself in the credits, but couldn't see the very end thanks to folks getting up and leaving and blocking the view. DID see Kim Mohan's name and teared up because we just lost him.
But I DID see "my" Realms brought to life on the big screen, shared with the world,
I did not see Ed Greenwood's name in the credits of the D&D movie and, to be perhaps too honest, it is extremely offensive if the creator of the Forgotten Realms was not credited for inventing the setting of the movie.
However, I am NOT okay with LGBTQIA+ people being attacked, or for that matter ANYONE who feels left out or othered. Storytelling often explores violence and important moral choices, but safe spaces are important.
4/
I have always considered myself supportive of everyone being treated with the same respect, and feeling represented. I am pro inclusivity.
I DON’T want to be associated with ANYONE who can’t get along with people who are different.
I reviewed the script of the first issue of a future comic book back when COVID hit, then wrote a foreword for it, for free. I thought it was a good story at the time, and I was pleased to see it was finally coming out, so I quickly retweeted it without paying proper attention
3/
3)
...not feeling they have to defend. And I got that.
I will be going to see it again. Taking friends, and taking family, and I'll probably enjoy it every time.
I don't need the fame (I'd love the fortune cough cough), but I DO love sharing the Realms!
2)
...and THAT'S what matters. If folks who never knew about D&D, or worse thought of it as "that Satanic game," go away from the theater thinking, "Okay, so that's what the kids were playing down in the basement...NEAT, Okay then!"
I want a movie all gamers can be happy with, ..
Well, folks, here's where I fall silent for...some days. A week? Who knows? Off to the hospital in a few hours (for a dark, wee-hours flit) to have the heart cut open. Back when I can. Be good to each other on Twitter and out in the real world while I'm gone, d'ye hear?
I've officially started a project that I've been wanting to tackle for quite some time. :}
Here is the first installment (of many) intended to detail the entirety of Waterdeep, ward-by-ward and building-by-building!

Male and female half-dragons in the Realms all have nipples, but how much in the way of breasts they have beneath them depends on...
#realmslore
Hey
@TheEdVerse
! Me and my friend
@LluisAbadias
have been designing & illustrating Forgotten Realms Dragons for quite some time.
We have a burning question when it comes to Half-Dragon designs & aesthetics. Do female Half-Dragons in the Realms have breasts? 🤔
My YouTube channel has hit two major milestones!
I am a bit late sharing, but we have surpassed 1 MILLION views! The channel also had it's first birthday!
My first video was released on Feb 14, 2023, but we created the channel on November 28th, 2022!

I'm touched by the support that I have received from so many true fans of the Realms.
I'm honored by everyone who has been enjoying the videos, and I'm very much looking forward to the continued success of the channel.
There is much more to come, so thank you for everything!
What a lovely opportunity it was to run a game with these fine folks which included the wonderful
@tmorello
and Vince Vaughn, both of whom were world-class roleplayers!
So for those who've been wondering why I've been so silent here for the last ten days: THIS. What a wonderful time with good friends (and I made five new ones!).
If you love "Wham! Blam!" high-level D&D and friends saving worlds together, don't miss watching this. Really!
I love doing these Q&A sessions with the Legends of the Realms from Patreon. I always get so many good questions, and it brings me such joy to provide information that might help folks' home games!
This is me pondering one of Tethyr's greatest allies.

Hi!
Named spells in D&D come from Jack Vance’s Dying Earth series, the same place Gary got (with permission) the “fire and forget” magic system from, for D&D. I put it into the Realms before D&D, in my Realms fiction, but the game and the Realms meshed perfectly.
#realmslore
@TheEdVerse
I have a few questions. What's the process in the Realms for Wizards creating their own "signature" spells? I.e. Leomund's Tiny Hut. How about altering another wizard's signature spell to be your own? I'm playing a Geomancy wizard who just level 13 and I'm curious
I've released some exciting new drow lore for the fans that are always asking me about certain technologies in the Realms. ;}

"Power word" spells came from dragons, whose magic was (1st Ed) verbal only. The Netherese, the Imaskari, and before them, elves, all "eavesdropped" them from dragons, then developed their own versions of what they'd witnessed cast, and so knew could be done.
#realmslore
I will die on this hill:
"Power Word Kill" is wrong.
Should be "Power Word Die", obviously.

Hey

I can't speak for D&D in general. In the Realms, ceremonies vary over time, place, budget, clan, and species, but primarily by the clergy the couples want to wed them (i.e. predominant faith, out of all the gods that everyone believes in). Over the years, I've...

a question for science: does anyone know how tieflings get married? or how people in D&D get married in general? do they give vows in front of their deity? are there any interesting rituals?
When I wrote Spellfire, I included full descriptions, including the incantations, for all spells cast in the book (so DMs could read them to players)...and the editors cut them all, deciding that "the fiction should NOT closely mirror the game."

So in the Realms, everyone sane believes in all the gods, wherefore they swear by either the deities they most revere, or that anger them the most.
So for Mystra, THE goddess (of magic), the equivalent oath would be: “Elminster Farruking Aumar!”

1)
Oh, yes.
First: the game posits fallible gods (flawed, make mistakes, can't foresee, are not all-knowing). Otherwise, PCs can't be heroes, just pawns following a script (and, having no agency, lack moral responsibility, too). So the best way to view D&D gods is...

@catholickungfu
Wow, thatis a good question… there’s a lot of feuding, and ascension is tied in part to belief… but randomness? Now I’m really thinking about this.
I wonder if
@TheEdVerse
has thought about this or has an answer?
Depends on the dragon, of course. And their age. Hatchlings of all non-aquatic species taste rather like the fine white meat of a well-done pork chop, the bit just before the fat rind.
As they grow older, they taste more like alligator (the tail meat). And then vary.

...individual genetics and the species who are the other “half” of the half-dragon’s parentage.

So, the actual word spoken for Power Word Stun is
arandguthmuntharcaniss

Munth = stun, stunned (amusingly, munthrek means human)

I was surprised to read that Elminster isn't very good at math. Does that mean magic isn't really comparable to arithmetic in how one actually learns and practices it? I see it compared to programming a lot. Is there a more accurate comparison to draw in your view?

No, “Faithless” are those who repudiated the gods deliberately. In the polytheistic Realms, no one has to choose a Patron. Dead infants and children drift towards the deity most often worshipped in their presence, even if they were asleep, too ill or comatose...

Well, here's the thing: as drow of old used tattoos to mark slaves, many drow detest tattoos. However, early Lolth priestesses used progressively-augmented tattoos (down their right inner thighs, eventually to the ankle) to mark ascending clerical rank.

What really matters to me is that Realms fans/gamers got to enjoy a good fun movie. I was SO afraid that we'd get a bad movie. But yes, they could have done the right thing. By Gary and Dave, not just me.
Gary borrowed the "Power Word" concept from an existing fantasy trope of "Words of Power" (found in more than a dozen classic fantasy novels) in which such words were secret words known only to mages, not "everyday words."

I always assumed the spells implied that you spoke the word with such power that it just...worked. Like, you were essentially commanding someone to be stunned or killed by saying very powerfully "Kill" or "Stun"

The PCs really "live in" the world: many friendships, businesses, etc. They're BUSY. So the in-world timeline + their levels advance at a snail's pace. The Knights are now average 9th level, we're in the early 1360s DR, and we vote on RSEs: they said no to the ToT.
