Yes, even with good suturing a scar can form in patients who are predisposed to keloids,
Yes, plastic surgeons are involved to suture the skin in resourceful centers...
And yes, be ready to deal with the anesthetist for taking too long to complete, but aim for good aesthetics

Lest we forget, Dr Mogusu warned us. RIP daktari. "You can lie down for people to walk on you and they'll still complain you're not lying flat enough"
Infact, intern doctors have been overworking. If you scrap off call allowances, then scrap off the calls. If we're paying them like other professions, then let them work from 8-5mp too. Also while at it, tell the patients not to fall sick at night.

@ja_konyango
For me, I look at them as team players in patients' care. As the team leader, it doesn't mean the rest are less important. Most of the information and actual care is done by those you're referring to as 'Less Learned'... I'm sure your consultant would say the same about you.
@4low_Ke
Autistic children often may exhibit 'unusual' behavior due to lack of understanding social cues and norms. Glad that you're okay and grateful that you were kind enough to understand his behavior was not intentional but an impulse from the underlying condition.
Did you know that medical interns run the healthcare service delivery? They run the majority of the specialist clinics and only involve the consultants in certain cases?
They are the first respondents to emergencies?
All they ask is to serve Kenyans

Are you still skeptical about the legibility of the doctor's strike? Here's an exempt of the real situation kwa ground... Kenyans do not be fooled and castigate the only people fighting for your rights. Healthcare is a right!!
#DoctorsStrikeKE
A very misguided statement. Interns doctors are licensed doctors who have in fact completed their practicals and acquired their certificates... Their only limitation is that they can only work anywhere where they are posted..

A photo of a bus from a renown public university ferrying med students to their learning station... no window, faulty seats. Seems like a norm to neglect servicing the buses in our public universities. R.I.P comrades of Pwani university. Sad news indeed.
After the pwani university bus accident I have an issue. Most public Kenyan universities have faulty vehicles. Nikama the administration doesn't care about the buses. Most comrades here can confirm this. TUM nilikua naona bus service ikifanywa na mechanical students
In a country where politicians wake up one day and give themselves the title 'dr'.... there's no respect for those who have rightfully earned the title.

Unless you have lots of resources at your disposal, there was no way he was getting away with it. No matter how good of a plan you have, eventually the money runs out and so does the running.
What will happen when doctors are not paid well... The exodus from the profession will be profound. Students will keep off from pursuing medical courses, the already qualified will exit the country.. The effect, healthcare which is on its knees will crumble

Reminds me of this one time I had to explain to a Pharmtech that Aldactone and Spironolactone are the same drug. He didn't pick and correct the error by the CO intern who had prescribed both and the patient was receiving 150mg a day (Aldactone 50mg BD and Spironolactone 50mg OD)
Last week a pharm tech was viciously trying to source Oral Pen G. There is no oral formulation of Pen G because of its chemical instability in the gastric environment which is acidic, only injectables are available as they are directly absorbed into the blood stream bypassing the

Honored to have trained for my MBChB under Dr. Shitsama at

. I remember she taught us neuroanatomy twice because the first time she felt we were not adequately prepared for the exams. She's a great mentor and a compassionate neurosurgeon.
A sentiment for most doctors in the country. Day by day I'm contemplating edging out of the profession or moving out of the country all together, whichever comes first.
I have been silent for some time contemplating on the future of medical practice in Kenya and eventually I think I'll have to quit this profession that was once so dear to me. We have been so contemptuously and unfairly treated that sometimes it feels like a dream.

There was this parent in highschool who would gather a few students who were not visited. He would bring enough food for at least ten students, give them shopping and pocket money like his own son. I later learnt he had 7 adopted children. A great inspiration👌
I remember this one time I had a gravid mother who needed emergency CS due to antepartum hemorrhage (bleeding in late pregnancy). She kept insisting on calling 'mzee' to give consent. 🧵
My daughter Maya alizaliwa through CS. I remember accusing the doctor of not giving my wife enough time to develop labour. She was too fast for CS. Seeing this post from a doctor makes me feel mad. CS is not an achievement. You're doing injustice.

Having worked at the facility not so long ago, I can confirm this is accurate. Recently I took a patient to the facility for emergency services after they were involved in an accident. They could not attend the patient without paying. Ata saline ya 100/= lazima ilipiwe kwanza

It's a mentality that privates are better. A while back I lost my aunt after the family insisted she be transferred from a public hospital to a private one. I could tell she was receiving better care at the public hospital. Unfortunately pride won.

Tools you need when rounding in NBU

With these you'll effectively manage more than 80% of neonatal conditions.

The transition from school to internship should be a smooth transition, MOH knows this, but I donno what transpires when the time comes for them to post the interns. Someone has to beg to be posted. After posting, they again have to be begged to pay the interns.

HIV stigma kills more than the virus. A close relative died of the virus, he refused to take the medication; the wife is still healthy on medication taking care of the kids, with lots of difficulties. I also know of someone who has lived for more than 30 years on medication 1/2
One thing about HIV infection is, if discovered on time and treated with appropriate drugs and lifestyle modifications, one will live a long life with no issues.

This strike was not only a loss to the doctors, but also to the lives of Kenyans who were denied service. The most painful thing is it was just a few members fighting for their salary arrears at the expense of young doctors and patient lives. No explanation will change the facts.

Looking at the pic brings many questions...
How long has he had the swelling?
Any shortness of breath, esp. on small tasks like walking on a flat surface or upstairs?
Inability to lie flat? Cough? Awareness of heartbeat
Yellowness of eyes? Bps?.. He needs a checkup ASAP
If the trigger is not genetic, it's definitely environmental. The answer lies in what we consume. The foods we eat contibute significantly to change in our microenvironment
