Several members of the bronze medal winning USA women's rugby 7s team are at this game, including Ilona Maher, per their socials and instead I've seen 19 pictures and 7 live shots of Tom Cruise
Sarah Nurse is the first Black woman to win an Olympic Gold Medal and she broke the record for most points in the tournament and that's all I care about.
Never thought I'd be this emotional watching a men's pro sports team stop play to watch a women's pro team in a totally different sport win a championship! Stick taps to
@Twins
One of the best moments of the post game was watching
@CamiKronish
take time out of her celebration to talk to this young goalie. Brynn Shabert is an 8U from Superior and Cami gave her her full attention.
#WFrozenFour
This. Is. Infuriating.
Michigan does not have an NCAA D1 hockey team.
They have a club women's team. And those women are CHARGED big time $ to use the ice at the men's hockey arena on campus. For the season, those charges rack up to $30,000. ~$400/practice, ~$1000 per game
So close to 20% of our $20,000 goal to help cover our ice bill at Yost Ice Arena!
Thank you to Michigan and women's hockey fans for your continued support of the
@umichwhockey
program. Any donation/share of our campaign helps.
#GoBlue
There's this ridiculous narrative that the US/Canada succeeding at women's hockey is somehow damning evidence against the game instead of proof of what is possible when women are properly supported by their Federation.
Full Dawn Staley quote on trans athletes in sports: “I’m on the opinion of, if you’re a woman you should play. If you consider yourself a woman and you want to play sports or vice versa, you should be able to play, that’s my opinion”
Pushed on a yes or no she simply says, “yes”
Sarah Nurse is the only Black player in women's hockey at the 2022 Olympics. And she has the most points. Sit with that glory. Revel in her excellence.
And support
@BlackGirlHockey
because there are more Nurseys out there. ❤
The "yard sale" after a championship is always a fun photo, but I thought Nat Buchbinder's crutch as part of it made this one extra special
#WFrozenFour
It has been five years since North Dakota cut their women's hockey program.
In this
#Beijing2020
#Olympics
, alumnae of that program scored 9 goals and tallied 8 assists for 17 points.
It remains a travesty of
#WomensHockey
and I'm still pissed.
Do you know how new the IIHF U18 Women's World Championship is?
Megan Bozek, Kendall Coyne, Brianna Decker and Amanda Kessel were on the first US team.
Marie Phillip Poulin, Jill Saulnier, Jamie Lee Rattray and Brianne Jenner were on Canada's team in that tournament.
This was one of the best goals in women's hockey in a while and you'd have no idea from the broadcast. Absolutely baffling choices on how this game/series is being called
Particularly of note as this game is on a LOT of tv - Bally Sports in MN and WI, NESN, MSG and local over the air TV in Twin Cities. A lot of people are watching not on YT and still the numbers are impressive
*men's!!!!
Jfc, you have a women's program at your school. How about we stop pretending women's hockey doesn't exist?! Men's hockey is not the default, good lord it's 2021.
Ann Renee Desbiens had 55. I'm not impressed.
For the first time EVER in women's college hockey, the primary coaching staffs (each head coach plus two associates/assistants) of both teams are all women.
We haven't had a title game where both HC's are women since 2005.
I cannot believe white folks don't know not to use "Spirit Animal" in 2021. It's cultural appropriation. It's belitting and making light of something sacred. It's not yours to use.
While we're at it, you don't have a tribe and you are not pow-wowing with anyone.
This is what women's hockey looks like a lot of the time tbqh
It's why I always think it's hilarious when men who say they love hockey also say women's hockey is bad/boring/not real hockey.
I know there's A LOT of sports to choose from today, but please, please make time to turn on ESPNU and watch the women's college hockey national championship. I sincerely guarantee that this is going to be an absolutely amazing game.
#WFrozenFour
It would be awesome if boring white dudes in hockey stopped talking about shit they know nothing about.
Did I hallucinate all these fans watching women's college hockey?
I'd really like to make sure we note Monique talking about the women's players in the NHL video game by saying "You can play with Hilary Knight's magic stick" and then pausing as what she said sunk in.
If you've taken nothing else from the last 24 hours or so, I hope it's that transmisogyny and bigotry are alive and well in women's hockey.
Homophobia may be less prevalent (or more hidden) but that doesn't mean other hatred isn't prospering.
There is not one women's hockey player or coach whose phone isn't blowing up right now and no one should be surprised this leaked, so why the hell is there no official statement happening?
Kristen Campbell literally did this last year. Pitched a shutout for the entire NCAA tournament.
Why is inserting "men's" so hard? Why is not ignoring and inherently devaluing the achievements of half your student athletes so much to ask?!
Cory Schneider is the only goaltender in NCAA Tournament history to record 3️⃣ shutouts in his career, doing so in the 2006 and 2007 tournaments.

@BCHockey
The announced attendance here is 14,430 - that's tickets sold and there are pockets of empty seats, but still by far the highest attended women's college hockey game again - and beats all college hockey attendance today - men or women
I know there's 9 million things for you all to be watching today, but the
@NCAAIceHockey
Women's National Championship is on ESPNU at 4 pm ET today and it features the two best teams in the country facing off for a 6th time. It is going to be PHENOMENAL hockey.
#WFrozenFour
Not for nothing, but there are 4 very good women's college hockey teams in Boston who generally have very anemic attendance. It would be awesome to see some of this excitement carry over for them.
Several players on the ice tonight came to
@thepwhlofficial
from those programs
Have to say I was a little unsure about the schedule with a game a night, but the idea that we get to do this several nights a week and it's easily viewable is truly a gift
#pwhl
This continues to happen at women's sporting events and yet somehow no one has thought to themselves "Hey, we should do more than one of these" - Honestly, it's lost revenue.
There is demand. Please try and meet it.
The line for the merchandise stand is even longer today. Stretches all the way from the entrance (where the stand is) to that woman in the yellow coat near the right side of the photo (below the black, white and blue banner.)
Hey women's sports fans and journos, can you help amplify and promote that the Women's College Hockey National Championship game is tomorrow? 1. Northeastern vs. 2. Wisconsin on ESPNU at 7:30 eastern
If you're complaining about how the NHL won't take part, but still tune into today's games, you need to take a hard look in the mirror.
Even if the NHL players don't strike, you can still boycott.
13,316 attendance in Minnesota as they take on Montreal.
World record for women’s pro hockey.
Previous record was just a few days ago in Ottawa: 8318
Get it hockey fans!
@thepwhlofficial
@PWHL_Minnesota
@PWHL_Montreal
Emotions are high and none of this came out in any semblance of properly, but it feels really relevant to point out that this whole thing started as a labor action where the women who formed the PWHPA said they could not trust the NWHL/PHF and wanted more control over the future.
I would really love it if someone would pay me to just interview women's college hockey players so I can write longform profiles of them
I never fail to walk away incredibly impressed by these women and excited for the things they'll accomplish in the future, on and off the ice
They could barely contain themselves in the mixed zone and didn't have the words to describe the excitement. We could hear them singing from the locker room, which is not actually that close
#U18WomensWorlds
This is absolutely wild.
PHF Commissioner Reagan Carey thinks the league should be credited with “the highest salary cap in all of women’s sports" for a season that isn't happening and contracts that have been void.
Not that any thought differently, but I've heard that today's women's hockey move by the players came after about a month of planning and working together, including conference calls with the 200+ people involved
All the outlets that reported on the cancellation of this tournament and had a sudden interest in women's hockey last month - I'm a freelance journo in Wisconsin who's been covering women's hockey for 15+ years. Hire me to cover this tournament for you.
I'm begging PWHL media to become conversant in NCAA women's hockey and be willing to do research.
NCAA history is PWHL history. They're so, so intertwined. It's a disservice to the sport and fans to constantly report wrong information about players and the NCAA.
My kingdom for us to stop pandering to men and putting them in and around this league when they clearly do not put in any work. They don't know names or pronunciations and right now we've had comments such as "they've given it a lot of thought bc they took a timeout"
A very uncomfortable thing in women's hockey is how many players persist in naming MW as their favorite artist, mention him on pregame playlists and post pics of themselves at his concerts.
Darius Rucker thinks country music hasn’t forgiven M*rgan W*llen. He’s wrong.
And he’s not considering what it’s like for other Black creatives in a genre that welcomed W*llen back so quickly and completely.
My latest,
@Tennessean
:
Michigan represent! ✋
When the
@PWHL_Boston
team attends the game, a meetup with their 3 & our 4 Michigan natives is a must! 🙌🤩
Good luck this season Megan, Taylor & Shiann!
I feel like all my Hanukkah-celebrating friends should know about this best use of reversible sequins I've ever seen, available at Target. You "turn" the flames on for each day. It's amazing.
I particularly like how condescending it is to "critics" when at least three teams of U-18 girls wrote him open letters. Always good to belittle children. A+ work, Luc.
IIHF President Luc Tardif sat down with to discuss the January tournament cancellations, including the questions over the cancellation of the U18
#WomensWorlds
Remember when the Canada women's hockey team basically had a behind the scenes mutiny and took control away from a bad coach who was making them worse? Asking for a friend
This team would be better without a coach at this point. I feel like they’re being held back from knowing each others tendencies because of how shitty he is.
I, for one, am shocked that inflammatory information shared with no context or editorial oversight or attempt to do a journalism turned out to be incomplete and misleading. Who ever could have predicted?
I hope ya'll had fun. That was a spectacular game. I'm so glad it was nationally televised.
Several women playing in this game will be on rosters for the 2022 Olympics.
NCAA women's ice hockey is so underrated and under appreciated.

A quick little thread of AAGPBL pictures ...
Many of you know I play in an AAGPBL Living History League. We have replica uniforms and play the same rules they used in 1943. We play in and around Chicago and Milwaukee, for the most part.
