St Cross College, Oxford, managing to pull off the most epic of fails by flying the flag of Mauritius instead of the LGBT pride flag this evening... ๐๐
"Stop bringing up SF's past! It's no longer relevant!" they plead, before launching into a tirade about the glory of the H-Block campaign and the "ra".

Imagine posing as a serious political commentator and confessing you're unable to understand an electoral system that simply requires a voter to understand the concept of numbers representing different values.
Ah yes, the Irish people, aghast at the rabid nationalism of Leo Varadkar, turned in their droves to the renowned Anglophiles *checks notes* Sinn Fรฉin. What an utter spoofer.

You have to chuckle at "colonial" being put in inverted commas as though it's some kind of niche or controversial interpretation of history.
Senior Tories are frustrated by how much power Ireland has had in the Brexit negotiations, especially over the backstop, says our political editor Nick Watt.

Reminds me of a Wales fan in Dublin a few years ago who loudly accused a barman of trying to scam him by insisting that he had to pay in euros, not pounds.
An excellent piece in today's Irish Times. Voting is not simply a right, but a basic duty of citizenship, all the more so in these times - the Europe we're building together is too precious to allow apathy to destroy it.

Ireland doesn't have a "Deputy PM". Have the respect to use his proper title, and while you're at it, reveal those secret Alternate Arrangements.

Can't tell you how many times I've refreshed this channel over the past few days waiting for news of Lyman's liberation. Thank you for all you do.

Not sure why Ireland would sign up to this, though? Seems to trade a full place in the single market for a lesser one, with very little in exchange

Once in a while you get people insisting that in their parallel universe Ukraine or Kazakhstan didnโt exist and it turns out they just remember looking at a map of the USSR.

Impossible not to think of Fintan O'Toole's comments about Brexit being "imaginary freedom from imaginary oppression." What a shower of irredeemable eejits.
Shanker Singham confirms that the Prosperity UK Alternative Arrangements Commission has held no talks with the Irish government over solutions to the backstop at EU parl event.
Unless they do start to talk to us, he claims, then that is the path to no deal.

Yugoslavia 1999-2000 is literally the textbook case for humanitarian intervention being good, why are they so obsessed with stanning murderous ethnonationalists and acting like they are woke
I welcome the Irish cabinet decision to hold the long-awaited referendum on extending presidential voting rights for Irish citizens resident outside the southern State later this year. All Irish citizens should have a right to vote for Uachtarรกn na hรireann

"Kosovo is Serbia" - yes, this protest movement is clearly about nothing more than earnest concern for religious liberty in Montenegro... ๐
@UkraineIreland
Lovely story, but disappointed to see the article persistently referring to "the Ukraine". More than two years into the war, Irish media really should be doing better than this.
@eoinyk
We must be one of the only countries where national defence is seen as some sort of niche, quixotic concern as opposed to a fundamental function of the state.
@United_Bosnia
We need to obstruct Serbia's accession to the EU at almost all costs. Having a government that's openly pro-Putin and unrepentant about their recent genocides within the EU would be a disaster.

The French and Belgian obsession with UHT "milk" is 100x more challenging to get to grips with as a foreigner than any other linguistic or cultural barrier.
@nealerichmond
Quibbling about this sum is just pure meanness , given that we spent 40-odd years as net beneficiaries. Happy and proud to have the chance to pay back into the system, having benefited so richly for so long ๐๐ฎ๐ช๐ช๐บ

Indeed. NATO Article 5 places an obligation for a MS to "take such action as it deems necessary" to defend an ally under attack, whereas 42(7) in Lisbon obliges states to provide aid "by all means in their power".

It seems that for a sizable number of people in Ireland, "neutrality" just means general "edgy" anti-western and particularly anti-US sentiment.
Never been a huge fan of Ming's, but wouldn't politics be a much better profession and spectacle if more people could speak about their opponents in this tone?
Whatever the result, a gem has been discovered. You've given many people hope that it doesn't have be the same old same old over and over again.

WT Cosgrave, whose role in establishing the state (and its democratic character) during the 1920s has been painfully ignored. Even De Valera, his great rival, would concede that his government did a "magnificent job."

It's bizarre and grotesque how they'll defend this kind of murder as "decolonial violence" but then go off about how Stalin deporting the Crimean Tatars was entirely justified.
