@tmistelb @WeirdMedieval No. Heavy infections of the intestinal parasite ascaris lumbricoides may cause worms to enter the bile duct and attack the victim's liver. One of the London teaching hospitals has a preserved liver of a man from the 1800s, complete with ascaris.

@wikivictorian The two women in coloured dresses are early and have clearly ignored that this is a polite gathering and not a ball. They may well be of the "demi-monde" class (Google that) which would account for not knowing society rules.

@DanielLambert29 The decision to Brexit was taken on a 50/50 opinion from members of the UK public. The electorate effectively said they did not know whether or not they wanted to leave the EU. It was not a binding result but the government and opposition chose to make it binding. It is a pity..

@byzplease @MetalClassicist I've seen this joke before, but the truth is that the spices were never for ordinary English people to consume. They were sold on at very high prices to the super rich. To the extent that 1 peppercorn was worth a week's rent and nutmeg was out of reach to most.

@1goodtern This tallys with the normal peak for invasive Strep A being weeks after the peak for Chicken Pox (reported by the BBC). Low T cell count was related to Chicken Pox. So this thread shows the mechanism by which Covid could cause invasive Strep A, and we can see this in practice.

@nikkelseyn @SafferTheGaffer Deflecting because you can't subtract 50 from 2024. Btw, if you went back to 1954, we would be getting into heavily pregnant women not being allowed unaccompanied on the streets territory. So no better then either.

@Wulf_Helm What is it about the concept of marriage that made you assume you would be in charge of your clothes. Surely the wedding put paid to those notions.

@mistresstailor This was carefully done. Dying is a chemical reaction and the dyer has to be sure that the process won't damage the fibres. OTOH, garments from the 1960s and 70s could give you poor results with the dye because synthetics were all the rage and the dye doesn't take.
