You know how we get outraged in US academia when budget cuts or shuttered departments mean people lose their jobs at 40+ w/ little prospect of outside employment? The German system is *designed intentionally* to make that happen. It is exploitative and cruel.

Yes please, let's reduce teaching time in NL! The academic year in NL is 9 weeks longer than in other European countries. 9 weeks!!! No time for reflection, research, reading in a system that churns out diplomas but neglects critical insight & intellectual growth

Very sad news: Hasan Saltık of Kalan Music passed away. Independent record label Kalan has been producing Kurdish, Armenian, Laz, Arabic and other "minority" and "folk" music in Turkey since the 1990s. This is a huge loss. May he rest in peace, nur içinde yatsın
