A sad note. We said goodbye to our Grayson, via FaceTime. He was 19y and I feared he'd die while we were away. I said goodbye to him before I left but hubby and the kids were devastated 💔 goodnight buddy, we will never forget you.

#RIP Dr Ashleigh Long. We met in 2014, when she did my elective @MGHCancerCenter , stayed connected on FB. She reached out in 2020, after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite it, she went on to cardiology fellowship. I'm gutted to hear she has died with #mbc . ❤️‍🩹

I have come to the conclusion that when it comes to oral Anticancer therapies, the FDA approved dose does not necessarily mean it is the appropriate dose that strikes the balance between efficacy and toxicity. Starting low with a known to be toxic drug can still provide benefit.

Several colleagues have been diagnosed with cancer. It reminds yet again that oncologists are human, we get sick too. When you see your doc, remember they have their own challenges. Small or not so small, we are all in the same boat.

So, thoughts on a Wednesday. When the #COVID19 surge comes, words will matter. If you have advanced or metastatic cancer, refrain from saying your cancer is "terminal". I worry that terms will become red flags if #distributivejustive becomes our reality.

Another word that makes me cringe: salvage. We aren't fixing cars. We are treating people. Nothing to salvage with our chemo, surgery, radiation, or anything else. Cure, control, palliate. Never salvage. #ASCO21 #theworldiswatching
