players forever under rated because they play in Utah. No
@spidadmitchell
? Guaranteed if he played on any other team he'd be on the list. It's cool though. Utah will show everyone in June.
@KHendersonCo
I wish I had answers. I dont know that I like a flat tax or not, What I do know is that gov't spending is out of control, and increasing taxes is not the way to solve that problem. No solution honestly. They aren't incentivized to reduce spending. not their money to start with
@RiotJatt
@TheeMarkZ
TL is an incredibly well run org and doublelift has matured a lot as well. I'm sure this was handled and communicated well inside the org which makes it easy on both parties. This will net positive results. True leaders on both ends
Lucas went from a restaurant manager at Five Guys, to owning 13 locations in ~5 years.
A big key as an owner has been how he's worked with his managers:
• Training them well in the first 12 months
• Providing the right incentives for upward mobility
@realEstateTrent
Also could be clarified with a % of sales derived from a specific product. I.e no more than 20% of their sales can be derived from sandwiches etc.
@alexfeinberg1
Have the bench and close on dead’s. The pull ups. Have never been able do them well, am convinced I will change that this year. Honestly only 8 months to really focusing ln building strength
I could be missing the boat big time here, but I have a hot take:
Crumbl developers should get to 50% complete on their dev agreements as fast as possible and then sell immediate. If you are between 5-10 units with a few rights left I would test the market now
@franchisewolf
I will be the first to say that anyone who says Jersey Mike's sucks - is wrong. By far the best national sandwich brand in taste, service, and franchisee economics.
@ChefGruel
When I lived in Mexico City I thought it was wild that anyone could set up and sell. Hell we even set up a burger grill for fun out in the street and sold. Thought it was insane, but cool just didnt see it as much here if at all... fast forward 15 years...
@trevizo_gabe
I am a no on sleepovers. My parents adopted this rule when I was in my early teens (after previously having them) I hated it then. But Looking back I get it. Nothing but trouble and things I had to deal with as an adult came from sleepovers.
@LeadershipAcad1
I think a couple of things.
1. These are two separate items IMO, if you aren't going to fire for the totaled truck, then the decision has been made there and shouldn't have a bearing on the decision around an advance.
Listen to 15 minutes of the audiobook daily at the beginning of their shift and we will recap as a group on our weekly conference calls. Did this with our first 5 restaurants and it changed the way we ran the business. Thank you!
@FranchiseMnA
how are the 10,000 down operating franchisees fairing? that is a bit thing long term. Giving up 15% of sales and 50% of profits is no joke. Peanuts left for the franchisees unless the have unit volumes through the roof (a la chick fil a)
@ShannonJean
There was another one that showed double these numbers. It's all in that definition of comfort. Like what are necessities? how big is the house? blah blah these are always garbage imo
@ChefGruel
if they couple it with a class action as they usually do, the 5% goes to the collective group. I know people with 200K+ settlements where the employees literally got 15 bucks or less.
@McD_Truth
@jonathanmaze
Go through your bank account and turn off all automatic payments so you are forced to review everything you are paying before it surprised you and leaves your account
@jockowillink
@LeifBabin
recently we acquired 8 additional restaurants and today we used portions of chapter 2 for our monthly meeting. No bad teams. Just bad leaders. The team loved it. We are going to be paying them to (1 of 2)
@brianbeers
It will.. you are right. Lack of transparency has led to a lot of lack of understanding. I believe the more employees know, the better. Has worked out so far
@greenhousenyt
My first business I mowed lawns at 9. I remember paying that lawn mower all around the neighborhood. Paid my dad to rent it and for gas 1/2
🧵 Yesterday we made the difficult decision to stop serving traditional small businesses at
@brexHQ
.
Brex remains deeply committed to serving startups, so let me explain how we got to this (painful) decision, and why it allows us to serve startups even better.
If I am wrong, awesome. I just don’t think that kind of revenue is sustainable in cookies and the competitors are popping up everywhere. Crumbl knows what is about to happen which is why they are suing everyone to try to beat them down before the small guys get traction and money
@sweatystartup
Where do they pay 12.70/hour? Seems very low for Chick Fil A especially over the last 12 months where restaurant wages have increased substantially to compete for labor
@bkng_13
I wonder what percentage of college students pick a major based on the starting salary after graduation OR the median to high end salaries in that field rather than the level of happiness the subject matter gives them
@brianbeers
@franchisewolf
any good commercial hood cleaning franchises? My experience with these is that they are mostly locally/regionally owned service co’s
@Kroening1991
My payment will have increased by almost 35% after the do this next escrow adjustment for insurances and taxes. Went up nearly 25% last year. so 35% over 2 years
@TRUmav
@FranchiseMnA
This isnt a chicken chain problem it is a KFC in the US in most markets problem. I know several chicken chain franchisees that do the same as Ben and crush it.
I never understood what it meant when people said you need to know a little about a lot of things to be in business. I get it now... Anyone else feel like they could chop it up in about 15 different fields on any given day?
@RestaurantWill
many franchisors should get with design teams to try and reduce new build cost .Sales volumes have increased a lot but cost to build has increased more, and pair that with margin pressure I would argue in some concepts the ratio needs to be even higher sales to build out
@TRUmav
2022, migraines every night in the dot at 11:30 pm. Everything culminated at once. Didn’t even see it coming. Made a ton of changes similar to yours. Truckloads of respect for you. The journey is hard!
@TRUmav
wow. I hadnt seen that yet. looks a lot like what stripe and others do for "internet" businesses. Can you imagine, we will give you a 100K Just pay us back 25% of the future orders on our platform that we are already taking 20%+ of netting them 55% or more % of the order.
@JoeySweeny
@franchisewolf
This likely has less to do with them in the short time frame if compared to previous years. Prices are up across the board YOY. Transaction count probably up very slightly or flat on a 9%YOY sales increase.
@FlannCasey
@sweatystartup
Can he not just give advice to college aged men? he has to give it to both, even though he, himself is a man? seems like a bait here. He will probably take you up on it ;)
Lived something very similar in Froyo and saw the ownership group that sold make out like bandits. Lines out the door every day, all day. 6 months later 30-50% revenue declines and the acquirer was left picking up the pieces
@FranchiseMnA
It is intense. I will also say, most millionaires I know ( I know a couple in culvers) partnered with an operating partner who did all the work and has equity. Lots in the franchise game do this.
@franchisewolf
@SameStoreGuy
@eva_spread
@McFranchisee
@mahorowitz
I initially read knowledge specific books to learn finance/accounting, and improve my weak areas. Nothing specifically on QSR. Find a partner or mentor to allow you to spend time in their shops with them and their multi unit leaders. Best way
@Joeingles7
@CJC9BOSS
@KyleKorver
@GraysonJAllen
Going to miss them all, especially Jae. Looking forward to the future and sure glad you're still with us Joe. Can't wait for next seasons Joe Ingles trash talk compilation
@SameStoreGuy
Let’s also talk about how this impacts all other businesses in CA. If QSR is paying 22/hr what do other retail, hospitality, <100 unit chains have to pay employees to compete for talent?
Anyone have experience working/owning a payroll company? We have a great relationship with one, but I am curious on the economics of the facilitators that utilize the software and process, pay the taxes etc. Essentially the 2nd 1/2 of what we don't do in house.
@franchisewolf
@DevinKunysz
Another hot tip: don’t be afraid to be next to a hot drive thru concept if you are fast casual. Lots of overflow from people that don’t want to deal with the line. Even if competing concept
@McFranchisee
I get the coke or pepsi dilema but I dont think that is a mote in this segment. If I am at sonic and get a dirty soda regardless of brand because I am already there, I am not going to swig to get the other after lunch
@kickstartmyfran
@Dickeys
@Lendio
For years I have wondered how I continue to see units of this chain.. Looked at it probably 10 years ago, ran away fast. Food isn't very good IMO which is the root of its problems, let alone service yet somehow they continue exist. I even see new ones opening up 🙀
@IJCFilm
@ChefGruel
The state has weaponized trial attorneys to go and collect revenue for the state and are willing to cut them in at 25%. The perfect union.....
@FranchiseMnA
I mean there are some for sure. This was very common when the Brand first started expanding out west, I remember opening some stores doing huge numbers 120K weeks. We have settled into a very profitable, sustainable spot in my opinion.
@franchisewolf
Definitely a solid concept. Big difference between them and Chick Fil A is their approach to franchising and the complexity of their menu
@FranchiseMnA
@shalinhtx
Some good IBs and Brokers that really understand the Entire landscape in the space will give EBITDAR just so that you can back into an LALR and do quick napkin math on the financing. Should give EBITDA also imo
O man, this is so spot on. Too many operators turn over an asset worth 7 figures to anyone that will do it to save a few bucks… the wins are in the details and the manager is responsible for those
It’s the little things:
It’s breakfast peak hour, the newly remodeled Burger King doesn’t have one car on the lot.
Their delivery truck is literally blocking the entire drive thru + entrance on the back of the building. Why? I’m sure the driver wants to walk a few less steps
@MikeJMacco
@franchisewolf
What’s the profit split CFA vs owner operator? It’s probably more than 350. Mikes number seems close based on an assumed net depending what the split is.
@jonathanmaze
I have spent lots of time thinking about this, would be easier staffing, I don't doubt that - but we won't need additional staff, I don't doubt that either.
@RestaurantWill
is this including taxes/bonus or just straight pay? hard pressed in some states to make this math work. Easy in others. Revenue and pulling other levers is the way to keep total margin healthy in high labor states
@ClintFiore
I feel like the term "grifter" is up there with "narcissist" a real word to describe real (sometimes terrible people) but is also often overused by some people who use them when they don't like someones behavior for any host of reasons,
@TFMkts
@bamlaw99
@jimcramer
I was going to say. How many do you think didn't pay rent just because by no threat of getting kicked out now, it fell on their list of "priorities"
@franchisewolf
@DevinKunysz
There is a raisings cane one pad over from the Chic Fil A on the same side of the street. They do fine all the time I’m sure but my guess is that Sunday is their best day
I was asked about my thoughts on hustle culture yesterday. Essentially, is it good or bad?
My take - it has its place and is necessary for moments. The biggest needle movers for me have always come in space though. Space away from the grind to let the mind wander.
Agree?
@McFranchisee
We are 100% key drop. not 24 hours and have more limited hours so probably harder for others. Key drop has its own set of challenges but receiving orders during operating hours is absolutely terrible all the way around
@franchisewolf
Amazing entrepreneur for sure. I tried this concept in Vegas and wasn't impressed with the food especially in the competitive chicken space. That said, could be poor franchise operations and it should be amazing. Would try again in a different city out of pure curiousity
