I had a heart scan for coronary calcium recently. I wanted to see if there was anything I should keep an eye on. It was $200 and literally 10 min in and out the door. At that price there is no reason not to know if heart disease is on the horizon. Got the results back

Food halls. When I visit these i can’t help but think the only people making money are the landlord and the master lease holder who owns the bar. Food operators are often a rotating cast of unsophisticated operators or new concepts being tested.

I’m 42. I have three living grandparents ages 98, 91, 89. My wife’s grandpa is 95. At 91, my grandpa is active and is mentally sharp. He plans to return to full time substitute teaching at an elementary school next year (as he’s done for many years). He used to be in banking.

Alpine Modern has lived many lives. At one point we had a quarterly magazine, boutique gift shop and a cafe. Over time we narrowed our focus to our cafe offering. We’ve taken risks, failed, figured out what works and learned a lot along the way.

@JoeySweeny @APompliano Thanks for the breakdown. I could be wrong, but I don’t see this model lasting. People generally eat food because it tastes good and they trust the brand. Random creators slapping their name on food and having it produced in a random restaurant. Seems doomed to fail.

Restaurants are often terrible businesses. Thin margins Operational nightmare Difficult labor environment High competition bc of low barriers to entry Inflation Etc But when executed well they can be very* profitable AND a gift to our communities. Thats the goal.

About 2 years ago my wife stopped drinking alcohol. Since then, my drinking has fallen off a cliff—nobody to share a bottle of wine with, etc. I suspect I’m not alone in this phenomena where one person quitting means huge reduction for the other.
