Last week my MOM got an actual TATTOO. I'm still in shock.
Important deets -
1. She's been drunk twice, ever
2. She thinks "crap" is quite a bad swear word
3. She got the tattoo on a Women's Institute coach trip to Chester
4. It's of a ball of wool and knitting needles
White privilege means you're not disadvantaged *by your race*. Not that you're not disadvantaged.
Sincerely, a former working class child with white privilege.
“You have this term white privilege… tell that to some of the young boys and girls in my constituency”
Ipswich MP Tom Hunt says white working-class children have been left behind
#politicslive
Not a great pic as it's curved around her shoulder (she's not the best at selfies) but here it is.
From a woman who makes her own jam and recently had a Victoria Sponge judged by a Women's Institute official in a white lab coat.
Quotes:
5. "Bat out of Hell was playing while I got it done."
6. "The man took a photo because he's never done one before" - no shit
7. "The language in there was a bit choice. Someone said the F word! Not to me, to his colleague"
8. "I'm old now, I can do whatever I like"
*UPDATE*
It went down a storm at the
@WomensInstitute
meeting last night.
Mom thinks the Twitter love is hilarious.
She's enjoying a "cheeky day off" school due to flooding today.
Here's a pic of the wonderful woman herself, pre-ink ❤️
9. She was going to do a big reveal at Christmas but didn't want to "because the grandchildren will be there". They are 14 and 16. Their dad,
@chrisnevmoore
, has numerous tats.
10. She told me I am "still not allowed one".
Someone recently found this newspaper clipping of my mom (Wendy, on left) "causing a stir" by being a female engineer in 1970. Later became be 1st woman to get a HND in engineering in Shropshire & rescheduled her wedding to revise 😍. Love this - total legend

@JamesHorncastle
Still not sure I get it, "London" isn't in Arsenal's name, Milan is in theirs. Is the thing that they don't shorten it to IM in Italy and don't want others to do so any more? Is this recent? (I'm genuinely interested - I don't feel strongly either way!)
I had been saving
@nazirafzal
's episode for when I knew I would have time to enjoy it. What a hero and an ally to women and girls. And what a lovely man. Although I did find 'Set You Free' an amusing pre-trial choice for a prosecutor!
My mom (
@Wendy_Needles
) and her mates made this AMAZING knitted Christmas tree. They're fundraising for
@alzheimerssoc
, a very important cause to us. Hope it's not cheeky to share the link, in case you have a spare quid & like 6.3 metre woollen trees?

I really hope all my new followers like tweets about the Civil Procedure Rules, social mobility in the legal profession, and what I bought from Greggs as much as they like pics of my mom's tattoo.
Sorry in advance.
@MaryjaneFurniss
Having said all that, I wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea. She can weld, solder, plumb, and can convert a gun into a rubber bullet firing weapon. She also built us a brick extension by hand and was the 1st female engineer in the county. She just doesn't like swearing 😂
1/ The last few difficult days have dragged up a lot of things for me. As expressed, I am disappointed in the resounding silence from ‘Legal Twitter’. It didn’t feel right to not speak up more, so here we go. A (long) thread.
@rzeksio
Ha ha. It's the collarless blue one. I think it's chic. £130 for £32 is cool in my book of what's cool (for mums).
The other pics are other cool jackets I've recently bought from Vinted. I may have a problem.

In other news, the BCAT costs law students £150 (£170 overseas) a pop, and has a 99.3% pass rate.
Perhaps we could as barristers try to be nicer to students and save some of our Sunday cross examination energy for the BCAT or indeed the ~£20,000 *for profit* BPC providers?
Any alleged correlation between a new Greggs about to open at Marylebone Station and my increased in person attendance in chambers is pure coincidence, and causation is denied.
I'm on a train to Liverpool and it seems to be staffed entirely by Scouse ladies. I've already been called "babe", "darlin", "my love" "bab", "honey" and "sweetheart". I couldn't be more delighted.
Little girls say behind me got "princess" too. Not jealous.
Oooh just got allocated my role for the

Just ate some "DO NOT EAT" silica gel (packet had split), spent ages googling what to do, what it's made of etc...
Turns out it's literally fine to eat they just write that on the packets so you don't think it's bonus food
(This may be my last tweet)
Proud to see

Yes I know it’s Friday. I know it’s 8am. And I know it’s Easter week, but this is Waterloo, the busiest rail station in Europe and it’s empty. You wonder why our productivity is not going up. Nobody is doing any work, that’s why.
New chambers photo taken yesterday. Deciding what I wanted my "vibe" to be, I eventually settled on "barrister who appreciates the timeless elegance of pearl earrings but also wants them to look like little cats cos awww"
Congratulations to Paul Reynolds, Emma-Louise Fenelon and
@JoMoore_
, who have been promoted to the Attorney General’s B Panel of Counsel, and to Amelia Williams, who has been newly appointed to the C Panel of Counsel, effective from 1st September.
We won!

Hooray, and thanks
@diversitylegal
for an excellent evening!
Had a dream Method Man wanted to become a barrister so we were going through all his old lyrics to check for anything that the BSB might take issue with. Was a pretty long dream.
So important to pair your drink with your food. With my evening mini eggs, I've opted for a white Russian with some weird crème brûlée liqueur I found at the back of the shelf. Just call me the sommelière.
@Richard79873132
I do agree that it's used in a divisive way, as in the example above. And indeed wilfully misinterpreted. I also think it's a useful term. I think the misuse and ignorance/denial of the fact is more of an issue than the term itself, personally.
Oh my gosh. Collarettes which have poppers at the top and not velcro to get your hair stuck in? (Entrapment!) Ties so they don't ruffle under your suit jacket?!
@IvyandNormanton
know what we need...
Surprised and delighted to be ranked for both Clinical Negligence and Inquests/Inquiries in this year's

directory.
Thanks very much to my lovely referees (they obviously bent the rules and let my mom submit feedback).

Oh God. Don't bring it up. By all accounts the cake was banging but she used non-regulation sugar for dusting (icing, where it should have been caster).
As a daughter I'm gutted for her.
As a barrister I think she was bang to rights and hope she's learned a lesson about the law.
All sorts of flattered to be ranked for both Clin Neg and Inquests & Inquiries, alongside so many brilliant colleagues and amidst

I did a two day non-assessed pupillage at a certain set of chambers. Got up for day 2 to see I had been rejected on the Gateway overnight 🙃
A further installment in the (very) occasional series. Peach baby food is perfect in bellinis and super cheap cf brands marketed as cocktail ingredients. Other 100% fruit versions are nice for daiquiris etc.
Stay away from the ones with parsnip in probably.
I don't know whom this might assist, but to save effort shaking & to get better froth when making an espresso martini, put all ingredients into a cafetière, plus ice, instead & aerate with the plunger bit.
Warning - can make *too much* froth, please refer to exhibit 3.

I’m really concerned that Kate Hopkins has been barred from twitter as, I think, should legal twitter. Unless she committed a crime then I’m afraid that I’m with Voltaire that - although I (totally) disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

You've navigated to a part of the website specifically dealing with trans women. Why are you surprised that the language is accordingly specific? It seems quite disingenuous to tweet this as if it were on the main page.
In about May 2020, some

friends & I decided to play virtual Uni Challenge every Friday. I had a quiz book = I was Jo-remy Pax-moore. It cheered me up and kept me going for many months. Last night we had the in person final. Look how happy I am. Drunk on power 🥳
Barristers! Do you want to do more

?
@1CrownOfficeRow
highly recommend working with

to provide a short work placement for 16-18 yo students.
We developed a 3 day programme w/ materials and activites which we would be happy to share with other chambers...

I feel like steam alarm is (kind of) a thing. We effectively had them at uni, a super sensitive particle detector which was set off by steam from boiling water, deodorant etc. Right pain in the arse.
