35-40 minit dengan basikal!
1. No parking fee
2. No fuel cost
3. No LRT monthly pass
4. No gym subscription
5. No road tax & insurance
6. No traffic jam
7. No stress on commute
8. No car monthly loan
And the list goes on
Bump into a seasoned bike commuter.
Introduced as Kajun, he’s been cycling to work for 1.5 years, because he said it is cheap and duration of commuting to work is shorter.
“Jimat duit maa”
“20 minit saja Kalau I kayuh”
“Kalau kereta, 1 jam 30 minit”
I’m not a Yes-Man.
Pernah pergi temuduga jawatan jabatan kerajaan.
I have some many things to rant on here. Itu hari ramai marah aku sebab aku cakap rumah suburbia punca jalan jammed kat Malaysia ni. Orang Malaysia ni pelik, dia tak nak jalan tak sesak, tapi semua nak naik kereta. Semua nak rumah landed. Semua nak duduk Semenyih tapi kerja KL.
Aku tak tau sampai bila aku boleh tahan hadap benda ni tiap hari…
At this point rasa nak berhenti kerja, meniaga je lah apa-apa depan rumah atau balik jelah kampung
They plan to have 1300km of bicycle lanes by 2030.
Malaysia? Gaduh sbb katanya cuacanya panas.
Earlier this month, I went on a weekend cycle with Safety for Active Mobility Users (SAMU) and Slow Biking Singapore (SBSG) around Bedok
It’s an honour to have MP Tin Pei Ling with us, to enjoy and experience urban cycling in the heartlands
Together we cycle better 💪🏻
Went with the wife for Penang in Feb 23’ without needing a car but instead used the buses. I can confirm that Buses in Penang is very reliable relatively to any part of Malaysia.
Walking+bus made the whole trip more engaging to us!
I cannot emphasise just how great 101 is in Penang - a bus that goes from George Town to Baru Feringghi via Gurney Plaza, Tj Bungah and stops as far as ESCAPE Penang - that arrives every 10 min during peak hrs!
This is a fantastic bus route that deservingly has the right freq!
That day I reflected that I don’t like lousy people who are not sharp with timing. Very inefficient and sluggish. I’m not a Yes-man to look desperate to get the job and dismiss their unprofessionalism.
Aku; “Saya menepati masa. Bukan macam tuan-tuan yang tak tahu hormati masa orang lain. Saya pun ada kerja juga.”
A young me was already felt angered because I was made to wait for them, and gave a harsh & direct comment to them. Ofc, I didn’t get the job.
You know in Singapore they put a designated measuring place. Anything fits inside there, can bring into the train. Regardless it is a luggage, a bicycle or an electric scooter. This can be achieved with few tapes on the floor and wall. KTMB is so noobshit.
KTMB's conditions of carriage did not say that bicycles are not allowed, but instead " large-sized or excessive baggage" - but nothing here defines what "large-sized baggage" is
The TnC, before its amended, states that bikes aren't allowed but did not specify if they are in bags
Me and my buddy used to cycle this section. I would describe it to be the most rustic and scenic route in Malaysia.
Nope. I oppose another highway after seeing how our country handles the environmental disaster. You’ll miss the beautiful details between Kuantan and JB.
Bayangkan kalau ada highway colour biru tu:
- travel journey from Kuantan to JB/SG will be reduced from 6 hrs to 3/4 hours
- Orang Singapore boleh dtg melancong ke negeri2 pantai timur (They can even travel to Thailand)
Agree tak?
Fascinating to see these are modern flock Malaysians walking on a busy streets-Jalan Ampang post Friday Prayer.
Tapi laluan zebra pun tkde lol. Takde lampu isyarat utk pejalan kaki pun. Jejantas ada? Jejantas is car centric infrastructure.
📍Depan Wisma Central, Jalan Ampang.
@azliby
@balorisme
Nope it’s not little too frequent and it’s very nice.
You go for the highest reliability and frequency you can for the users.
So far aku belum nampak lagi mana-mana ahli politik nak cantas budaya rempit ni dari akarnya.
Tiap tahun tarik audience rempit ni buat events sana-sini bawa nama parti, konon nak dekat
Peta Kuala Lumpur tahun 1965
teringat masa kecik2 dulu selalu curi rambutan kat Jalan Yap Kwan Seng kat rumah mat Saleh pastu kantoi... hehehe.. pastu dia cakap makan la puas2...nasib boleh speaking skit2
Fun fact: Jaywalking is a term made up and lobbied by the car makers to criminalise a pedestrian just trying to cross the road.
Prior to that roads are public spaces, pedestrians, kids or olds, tricycle can freely roam.
And that is meant by car centric.
He lives in Setapak and frequently out from his house by 7am. The bicycle is a Specialized blackout MTB bicycle.
Might be a good idea with the thicker tyre of MTB, can endure and eases on your bones when cycling onto the potholes of Kuala Lumpur.
Orang Malaysia tak suka berpeluh langsung. Duduk suburbia nak gi beli mancis pun naik kereta. Perli orang naik LRT jalan kaki beli telur. Nak berkebun takleh sbb strata landed.
I don't understand the belief that cycling=sweaty.
Do people sweat while walking?
So why are they sweating while doing something easier than walking? 🤔
Unless you're pushing yourself (much like running), you should be glide-walking (at 5x speed) with auto heating/cooling fan🤷♀️
He drafted me for about 3km and he said
“Mahu hujan ka?”
I said “Belum. You Ada bawak baju hujan?”
“Ya Ada, don’t worry”
We speaks the same language. The overcast weather and Kajun, made my morning commute enjoyable!
From my biased POV. It is because we developed the Malaysia based on car. Car strips out heterogeneity in the culture fabric.
A lot of our attraction came from the downtown on which are built for walker, not the newly developed area.
Georgetown, Penang, KL, Melaka.
Sesimple 7Eleven Thailand pun boleh buat orang tertarik nak pergi. We are lacking of in-trend attraction. Now, Thai push nation costume.
Setakat iconic building dan long history tak cukup. Something to think about, kenapa pasar malam kita tak on par night market Thailand?
Aku kayuh basikal pergi kerja.
Sustainable life and transportation
2018: I started cycling seriously when I bought a secondhand bicycle for RM1.8k, when I was in university. Saved money for year to get this-life goal was very simple back then.
I put the highest mileage on this bike till this date-5757km
Rode it everywhere.
So I cycled to
@DBKL2u
tower to have my says being heard by them.
I commented on the current state KL’s bicycle commuter as a bike commuter myself, the better ways to build bicycle lanes, regulations following it and how (realistically) having local elections can help this.
Tp orang kita pilih nak duduk suburbia utk kejar “The Malaysian Dreams” kerana dimomok oleh property developers.
Aku pula tercengang menunggu. Pukul 12.30 baru dipanggil masuk.
Ditanya soalan, aku jawab betul semua soalan teknikal. Mungkin mereka tak tahu nk balas,
Panel 1; “Kami tak tengok teknikal”
Sakitnya hati dengar.
Panel 2; “Kami nak tengok sikap dan dedikasi calon”
@VokalKita
@NabilErsyad
Pakaian kerja santai di syarikat saya. Ada hari perlu formal, jadi Sy beli yg jenis tak kedut (wrinkle free). Ada hari main badminton/bola semua Sy angkut.
Semua masuk dlm bag depan. Raket di bahu. Kadang satu lagi bag ikat di rak belakang tu.
And this has been a disaster for every Americans cities and society. Post WW2 has pushed everyone being very materialistic. That includes owning a home with own backyard.
This too have destroyed the great American cities in the chase of suburbia.
Found another fellow bicycle commuter in Jalan Smemarak’s bicycle lane.
Presented as Mat, he frequently bikes to work for the past 3 month with his hard tail MTB.
Works in LRT Ampang Park area and stayed in Setapak. We parted ways only at the end of of our usual route.
But they never charge extra for excessive usage of water and electricity bill. Cleaner clean the bathrooms and pantries for us, water dispenser that are serviced regularly. You can never get this kind of amenities if you are renting outside the campus.
We made highways cutting through our beautiful dense and walkable cities for them.
Just to feed their desires of materialism. Everyone should own a car, a house, just to boast their status. Walhal semua riba
Suburbia makes us individualistic.
Visited the project site of
@bikecommute
.my in collaboration with others in SK Danau Kota 2.
Looking for more projects like this.
Remember, the Dutch didn’t press on being cycling heaven but they press on making the road safe.
It’s not just bike.
After I frequently bike to work I can confirm that:
✅Improved mental health- better sleep, forget my work on first pedal stroke.
✅Save money-no petrol, no electricity, no parking fee
✅Consistent travel time-not affected by rain, sun or how many cars on the road.
Advice from a new study on bike/walk commuting:
"Interventions to promote [biking/walking to work] should highlight the mental health benefits, substantial money savings through reduced transport costs, and improvements in predictability of travel time."
Cars at certain population density will not work.
Simple as that.
My advice for house buyers; avoid car centric suburbia.
Alam Sari, Eco Ardence, Eco Semenyih, Elmina and etc
#Kajang
Masalah itu bukan saja membelenggu penduduk Alam Sari, malah penduduk sekitar seperti Serene Heights, Kampung Sungai Tangkas, Taman Tropika dan Taman Universiti turut didakwa terjejas.
Kalau dlm konteks orang Islam dulu, Masjid jadi tempat utama atau tumpuan penduduk. Ia dibina dahulu sebelum yang lain ada. Jadi tempat ketiga yang baik utk seorang Muslim.
Sekarang tidak. Rumahnya dulu with full of the materialistic necessity.
Tu pun ada orang kata KL dah penuh. 💁🏻♂️💁🏻♂️💁🏻♂️ Suruh alihkan pusat ekonomi keluar dari KL.
They can’t comprehend what makes KL is so sustainable as the most economic city in Malaysia is because of its centuries old relatively walkable infrastructure.
Build more compact city.
Bila la Malaysia nak sedar Dan berhenti bergantung harap pada transportation awam di Malaysia ni.
Naik basikal je lah. Self support. Eco friendly, sihat pun sihat. Jimat masa. Jimat Wang. Zero karbon footprint.
Orang Melayu ni mudah rasa entitled.
Tua sikit, entitled.
Kereta mahal, entitled.
Pangkat besar, entitled.
Y15, entitled.
Basikal Specialized, entitled.
Sakan ya gelak
@ahmadmaslan
Bukan kali pertama.
@adzakael
Yes technically correct. The downtown of the city that subsidies the life of suburbia. Suburbia can’t economically sustain on their own. They need downtown. How irony.
The big tree in Jalan Sultan Ismail is from Samanea Saman species. Brought by the British from the South America and planted widely here. Same species you would see in Taman Tasik Taiping and along Jalan Ampang.
So I frequently bike to work. And I appreciate the tall canopy trees that we have in Kuala Lumpur. I cycled pass through you the night before you succumbed to death.
I know people will talked a lot about your beautiful death. But you are forever in my heart.
Assalamualaikum sahabat-sahabat handai.
@BOmorello
Betul ada yg akan komen mcm ni.
Can I bike with cheaper bike?
Boleh. Brompton ni pun aku beli secondhand.
Do I need to please everyone?
Tak perlu. Sebab apa? Kalau aku ikut semua apa orang cakap, akhirnya Aku naik kereta dan motor juga.
You are the Minister of Local Govt should spend more time and effort other than EV. More refreshed guidelines could be made on:
1) Sustainable house development
2) Safer streets for pedestrians and bicycles
3) Planting more trees
4) Cities with not car dependant
@iHX_Kimilol
@raafikaziz
Lebat sangat berhenti, biasa jer, kayuh terus. Utk saya, setiap hari ada 2 pasang baju utk selesa; Baju kayuh & baju kerja.
Sbb Malaysia tkde sokongan sebaya yg kuat saya byk ikut di subreddit ni
@LianJim
It is already a junction with traffic lights for motorised car mate🤷 why not make it better. and this area high in foot traffic
Oh ya, why not just prioritise pedestrian’s comfort? Why everything should be for car’s comfort?🤷
@iHarizHaziq
Semoga berjaya! Kalau perlu peer support, contact saya. Malaysia’s bicycle Infrastructure is not the best but the situation is far off the worst. Kita perlu ramai lagi pengayuh basikal (bicycle commuters) di jalan. Hati-hati berkayuh!
2023; I moved to KL. Living in a urban area, I need new solution for my cycling needs.
Down into another rabbit hole. Found out Brompton is the epitome of my needs.
Hunt the used market for the best deal. Found for RM6.7k. Sold my motorcycle for it
Rode 930km till date.
Paling benci orang korporat sembang kencang pasal strategi
“Are we ready”
“Robust and sustainable”
“Balance with all those things”
“3 Pillars”
Golongan kayangan that have no grounding to realities.
@LumrahL
Tadi singgah kedai saudara
@hanifmz
Aku suka kedai begini, one man show, kesungguhan ada di jualannya.
I’m sorry Mr Nik Nazmi. You are so underwhelming. Every morning I cycle to work through your parliamentary area.
Every time I see your big face on at the end of a junction full of fucking cars in the grid lock traffic, I feel sad.
Ada kata promosi EV, kita ketepi pengangkutan awam.
Ya sistem pengangkutan awam penting.
Tp dasar EV meliputi seluruh ekosistem dari kenderaan logistik hingga mikromobiliti.
Byk lagi tempat perlu EV sebahagian penyelesaian rendah karbon.

Look how much serene Penang was. More people were walking and cycling. People were much leaner. Modern people are more fat lazy duck-I mean Malaysians and also no mat rempit with 200 Db exhaust that sounds like fart-that contributes more than 70% of road crash in Malaysia.
Uncle David, aged 65. Fellow bicycle commuter in Wangsa Maju. Dia ada basikal mercedes. Complete with a rear basket. Cowboy hat and thrifted jacket to look cool.
Malaysia is very well blessed. We have nice and cheap food, adequate infrastructure, no major natural disasters, relatively cheap housing, access to healthcare, relatively clean.
We are far from the best, but also very very far from the worst. 🇲🇾
🧵We just released our World Bank high income (HI) data
How did M'sia do?
> M’sia to reach HI by ~2030
> Projection most sensitive to US$/RM rate
- eg, if US$/RM was just-under-4 btwn 2022-24, 🇲🇾 would be HI *this* year
> Sarawak retains HI status. New entrant? Selangor!🧵
Tourist don’t visit any country on car. They walk and use public transportation.
They don’t go to mall. They don’t want to see your typical car suburbia shop lots.
I bought them all from my fixed deposit. No loan installment like how most of us pay for cars and motorcycles.
I bought them bcs I’m serious.
But, Malaysians are materialistic and price tagger. They have it ? they boasted it, they don’t? They play their “marhaen” card.
2018: I started cycling seriously when I bought a secondhand bicycle for RM1.8k, when I was in university. Saved money for year to get this-life goal was very simple back then.

Cycling to work. The real solution for solving the modern time issues
1. Net Zero Carbon✅
2. Obesity✅
3. Traffic congestion✅
4. Mental illness✅
5. High cost of living✅
6. Flat ass🫡
Cities aren’t loud, car is.
And those who use PT are cramped in that dull looking and soulless TBS.
@JimmyNaj
20 tahun dulu KL waktu malam memang jalan lengang. Sekarang KL waktu malam pun dah macam waktu siang.
Tahun 2015, masa aku balik cuti raya dekat KL naik bas pun pukul 10-11 malam, dekat TBS padat gila sesaknya. Dulu tak ada pun macam tu walaupun dah ada TBS.
Practically I’m concerned about these on landed houses on private lot land.
1) Drainage system
2) Sewage system
3) Waste management
I’ve seen a lot issues if there’s no controlled development of this-particularly in Terengganu & Kelantan.
Small things that makes me happy. Bicycle parking is full of bicycles
Not much in greater scheme of things, but utilitarian cycling is well present in Malaysia.
📍Stesen LRT Kelana Jaya.
@jimdaniall
Yes ofc every time after my ride. There’s hot shower and hair dryer at my gym’s office.
I can treat my cycling as my workout but combined with my commute time.
People go to the gym or run anyway before work with full sets of gears. But separate from their commute duration.
Ramai parents bawak anak beriadah, piknik, etc.
Fasiliti awam mcm ni, sebaiknya linked dgn public transport lah. LRT/MRT ke, kan? Sbb jumlah kereta terlalu tinggi, parking xcukup.
Yg lain, ok lagi.
KTMB is the epitome of lame and outdated services in the world.
I have been in Thailand’s train. Even they don’t make it so rigid. We can put 2 full sized bicycles for the intercity ride. They are smart, they just charge us.
KTMB's anti-bike policy on its trains is (literally) hurting recreational cyclists who travel to the countryside on the same day the restriction was announced
Imagine being ejected in the middle of nowhere at 1am - that is what they faced
A thread on their journey:

@kepokgirl
Mine is I fold and park under my work desk in the office.
There’s one in front Wisma Central. Just buy a good lock. In Shaa Allah selamat.
Send me a dm for detailed lock recommendation😁
Terjumpa sebuah basikal gunung retro model Marin Eldridge Grade keluaran tahun 1992 di kubur basikal lama sebelah asrama adik aku.
Dalam usaha nk ambil. Ada projek utk baik pulih.
Kat kawasan rumah Aku ada. Tapi orang pejam mata sebab tuannya yang byk buat kerja utk pengurusan perbadanan.
Orang kita mudah mengalah bila dia ada pengaruh dan jasa, walaupun tak ikut undang-undang.
Actually there’s not much left to enjoy if everything is so easy.
We always mistaken that economy indicator like GDP and etc will dictate our happiness scale.
Happiness can’t be measured by numbers so does highway can’t dictate our happiness. Let’s keep it rustic.
I suggest this book. The author talks about everyone’s entitlement on free parking and it’s bad effect to space fight in urban area.
If we are going to normalise American cars, that every town planners bend to this requirement, present cramp and traffic jam will get worst.
@A_Hxrrxz
Not entirely the car's fault since vehicles nowadays are already bigger compared to 20 years ago. Byk je vehicles yang dah terkeluar kotak.
It's the management building, town planner's fault. They should have created bigger parking spots to accomodate today's vehicle size.
Bump into a seasoned bike commuter. Ep. 2
Introduced as Uncle Chia, he looks so smooth gliding through the traffic on his specialized grey commuter bike
