George W. Bush in 2004: “I made a decision not to join the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which is where our troops could be brought to — brought in front of a judge, an unaccounted judge.”
Those good old days of the liberal rules-based order…
I will not vote for Joe Biden in 2024. I’m sure many trashy liberals will say I “must” vote for Biden because the Republicans are worse. Yes, I’m sure they are worse in most ways. But you have to draw lines. Enabling genocide in Palestine is my line. Where do you draw your lines?
Amazing how concern for the well-being of Afghan women went to zero when the discussion went from addressing the Taliban’s brutality to the impact of US sanctions on Afghan women. Shows how many advocates of US militarism manipulate (rather than care about) human rights issues.
Operation Cast Lead, Operation Protective Edge and other Israeli attacks on Gaza were overwhelming and disproportionate. None of them prevented what just happened. Another brutal massacre of civilians in Gaza won’t make Israel any safer in the future. Let’s be honest about that.
The Hamas atrocities against civilians are pure evil. Israel should not permit Hamas to exist in Gaza any longer. It is entirely justified in an overwhelming response. In fact, an overwhelming response is a moral and strategic necessity.
Ronald Reagan’s diary: Aug. 12, 1982.
Reagan understood how using American leverage over Israel was in the U.S. national interest—something the Biden-Harris team doesn’t seem to recognize.
I think the US is reacting to events in Israel-Palestine in ways that are leading to a very sharp rise in anti-US sentiments across the Arab-Islamic world and Global South that’ll last a long time. Not sure Biden administration officials quite realize this.
I never heard this interview with the Shah of

. Would be interesting to hear what the pro-Israel monarchists in the Iranian diaspora think of these words from the Shah.
Many in the Global North might not fully appreciate how people in South American or African countries are sensitive to the struggle of people living under a European settler-colonial state. But one doesn’t have to study that much history to understand why.
@RaniaKhalek
These people are vile losers filled with anti-Arab and anti-Palestinian hate. Don’t ever forget how proud you made so many of us while you appeared on Piers Morgan’s show!
German diplomats need to stop with their lectures to Global South audiences about human rights, women’s rights, democracy, etc. and work on their own country first.
“A team of D.C. police officers appeared at Blumenthal’s door at just after 9 AM, demanding entry and threatening to break his door down. A number of officers had taken positions on the side of his home as though they were prepared for a SWAT-style raid.”
Today at The National Museum in Muscat I saw the late Sultan Qaboos’ uniform. I highly recommend visiting this museum to anyone visiting Oman’s capital. One learns A LOT about Omani history here.
I’m seeing many Israeli voices on Twitter trying to depict Qatar as an awful place because of its anti-LGBTQ laws. Yet, I don’t remember anti-LGBTQ laws in the UAE or Bahrain being an issue for these folks at any point since the Abraham Accords’ signing. I wonder why…
Is an Israeli nuke a “Jewish bomb”? Are French, American or British nukes “Christian bombs”? Does North Korea have an “atheist bomb”? Does Russia have an “orthodox bomb”?
Assad visiting the UAE is a watershed which further illustrates how on many issues Abu Dhabi’s foreign policy has been increasingly aligning with Russia and China’s interests, not those of the US. This isn’t new.
#Syria
Early on in the Arab Spring, Hamas sided against the Iran-backed Syrian gov’t. In 2015, Hamas sided with KSA against Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Whether those were wise decisions on Hamas’ part isn’t my point. My point is that these facts tell us that Hamas isn’t Tehran’s “proxy”.
I have tested positive for COVID-19. Yet I am in good spirits and confident that I’ll survive InshAllah. I make this post to urge all of you to be careful and take all necessary steps to avoid the virus. I was very cautious, yet I got it somehow. Please stay safe!
"What separates the US and Israel from Hamas is respect for international law and the laws of war"
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken asserts that Israel and the United States cannot be compared to Hamas, despite the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International
"Senior Israeli officials say that if the program is not halted, they will be forced to consider attacking Iran's nuclear reactors, a tactic they used against Iraq in 1981, when Israeli warplanes bombed an Iraqi reactor."

Harvard students cheer as they replace the U.S. flag with the Hamas flag.
Today's college students have more loyalty to terrorist organizations than to America.
America's colleges are now "educating" traitors.
Arabs at large reject the Abraham Accords. Interactions at the World Cup and various polls demonstrate this point. Algeria, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq and other Arab states which stand against normalization have, at least on this issue, been in touch with the views of their citizens.
Proud to have joined 75,000 other Americans who spent their Saturday afternoon coming together at the White House to demand basic decency in our country’s foreign policy toward Palestine.
Assad is now in Muscat and we shouldn’t be surprised. For years Oman’s leadership has joined other Arab states in calling for Syria’s return to the Arab League and the region’s diplomatic fold more broadly—a process that “earthquake diplomacy” will probably accelerate.

Shocked!! Just absolutely shocked that a person who believes in a racist ideology (Zionism) would use racist language. Going to be scratching my head for quite a while thinking about how this could be…

The United States will remain deeply committed to the security and self-defense of the State of Israel. Let me be clear: our support for Israel’s security remains unshakeable. And it always will be.
Getting tired of repeating this. One can oppose sanctions on Iran and also call out Iran's gov't for its human rights violations. Being against "max pressure" doesn't make one an "apologist for the mullahs". Criticizing Iran for human rights abuses doesn't align one w/ neo-cons.
Elon Musk has been amplifying antisemitic content, profiting from misinformation, and allowing pro-Hamas propaganda to spread on X.
This needs to stop.

US citizens will be far less safe across Arab, Muslim, and Global South countries. We’re handing China and Russia huge opportunities for soft power gains. Frankly, in this administration we have awful leadership which has reacted to these events in horribly misguided ways.
He’s not alone in calling it murderous. In 2020, Alena Douhan, the UN Special Rapporteur, condemned the Caesar Act. “The US Government must not put obstacles in the way of rebuilding of hospitals because lack of medical care threatens the entire population’s very right to life.”
Now folks, here’s a young man calling the Caesar Act “murderous” after he went on a press junket to spin propaganda on behalf of Bashar al Assad, the century’s worst murderer.
The Emir of
#Qatar
is delivering an excellent opening speech. “I would like to remind of the millions of Palestinians who have suffered from decades of Israeli occupation and international neglect.”
I worry we’re repeating a Cold War era mistake by putting each state into a pro-West or pro-Moscow camp like it’s binary. Just as we misread Mosaddegh & Nasser as Soviet pawns, many see Arab states that cooperate w/ Moscow as part of a pro-Russia/anti-US camp. It’s more complex.
In the "how would you feel if it happened to you" department, how would you feel if ordinary American citizens were deliberately targeted for economic immiseration as punishment for George Bush invading Iraq
"The numerous incidents of killing entire families in Israeli bombings in

Of course no outrage from the mainstream media. Just imagine how the liberals on CNN/MSNBC would be reacting if he said this about Russia, not Israel. Regardless, as an American and I don’t want any foreign country being able to “control” the US Congress.
In the past 24 hours, I’ve seen literally hundreds of tweets with the hashtag
#DoNotEaseSanctions
. They seem to all be bots (accounts with 3 or 4 followers, no real names, pro-MEK propaganda, etc.). I wonder if this social media campaign is run out of Tirana or DC.
Important to keep this in mind when you hear people say with a straight face that Bashar al-Assad and his cronies are the only people in

suffering from the Caesar Act.

Many years ago, as a graduate student, I started reading Norman Finkelstein’s work on Israel-Palestine. It had a huge impact on me. Today I had the honor of meeting him.
I figured that if he could survive “Destiny” for five hours, he could tolerate me for a brief moment. 😂
Harris in last night’s debate: “…we must have a two-state solution where we can rebuild Gaza, where the Palestinians have security, self-determination and the dignity they so rightly deserve.”
Given the Biden-Harris admin’s policies, this rhetoric is insulting and frustrating.
Absurd that this has to be said, but it must.
The Palestinians in Gaza don’t need the U.S. to build them a port that would take two months to get up and running. They need the U.S. now to stop arming Israel and shielding it from accountability at the UN Security Council.

What Cooper has is a very US-centric view of the world. If you travel to other countries, especially in the Global South, and talk about the US invasion of Iraq in comparison to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, you’ll see that Cooper’s view is not shared by too many people.
Anderson Cooper told
@CornelWest
it was "inappropriate" to compare U.S. Iraq War (500K dead Iraqis) to Russian bombing of Grozny (5-8K dead Chechens)
"Half a million Iraqis," West argued. Cooper responded Putin intended to slaughter Chechens...but U.S didn't have same intention

I don’t think China being the broker of the KSA-Iran deal resulted from the US “disengaging” from the MENA region. It resulted from the US engaging in the region in ways that are militaristic (not diplomatic) and very aligned with some actors against others (not balanced).
Leaving Southeast DC to begin my travel to the Sultanate of

My dear friend and colleague
@AssalRad
wrote an excellent book about Iran. That she wrote this amazing book impresses me, but it doesn’t surprise me at all.
I’m old enough to remember when the UAE lobbied the US to put “maximum pressure” on Iran and when the Emiratis pointed to Qatar’s relationship with Iran as one justification for the 2017-2021 blockade. Can’t wait to read FDD’s commentary on this new development.
In truth the U.S. has a record being hostile to Venezuela and its people from coup attempts, to an assassination attempt on Maduro, and crippling sanctions.
The United States stands with the people of Venezuela who expressed their voice in today’s historic presidential election. The will of the Venezuelan people must be respected. Despite the many challenges, we will continue to work toward a more democratic, prosperous, and secure
When Middle Eastern powers try to turn the West (mainly the US) against an Arab country, they'll often push this narrative about that country having moved too close to Iran. In 2017, KSA/UAE/etc. attempted that with Qatar. Now Morocco and Israel are doing that to Algeria.
The United Nations just voted 172-4 to affirm Palestinian people's right to self-determination.
The resolution emphasized achieving "a just, lasting and comprehensive peace settlement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides."
The United States was 1 of 4 countries to vote no.
The Saudi crackdown on Palestine solidarity means that KSA-Israel normalization is coming soon? IMO, no. I see this within the context of the Saudi gov’t (and other Arab gov’ts) fearing the Palestinian issue’s ability to mobilize citizens in ways that challenge regime legitimacy.
.
@NegarMortazavi
doesn’t have a “long track record of lobbying for Mullahs”. She never claimed to be a voice for all Iranians and no single Iranian is that voice. She represents herself and her own views.
KSA & the UAE were the 2 main players in the coalition that went into Yemen in 2015. Yet that war hurt KSA's reputation in DC while the UAE's reputation didn't take a big hit. Likewise, today KSA (not the UAE) takes a hit in DC for the OPEC+ decision. The UAE does PR much better.
Why does Israel get under your skin? Because it’s democratic, pro-American, or Jewish?
You don't get worked up about massive human rights violations in China, Iran, Cuba, & Venezuela.
You all would fit in great with the anti-Semites at the United Nations.
I know the Taliban is extremely brutal. I understand why most governments don’t want to “legitimize” it. That said, I strongly support lifting the US sanctions on Afghanistan because that’s necessary for preventing a large-scale humanitarian crisis there this winter.
Some in DC who always defend Israel’s crimes now point to Iran’s alleged responsibility for Israeli conduct in Jenin. That’s a smokescreen. Remember that long before Tehran gave the Palestinians one bullet the Palestinians were resisting Zionism. Occupation is the issue.
One of the oldest churches in the world was just hit in an Israeli strike in Gaza. Hundreds were sheltering there, Muslim and Christian alike, including likely most of the entire Palestinian Christian population in Gaza.
No regard for the lives of innocent Iraqis and Iranians. None. When these people pretend to care about the rights of Iranian women, no one who is intelligent believes that they’re genuine.
The fight between Putin and Prigozhin is a reminder of what Kissinger said about the Iran-Iraq War and the fight between Khomeini and Saddam:
“It's a pity both sides can't lose.”
During the Gaza-Israel war of May 2021 it became clear that criticizing Israel’s policies is no longer political suicide in America. In other words, AIPAC has been losing control of the narrative in DC. Now the organization is desperate and resorting to open & ugly Islamophobia.
It will take time but this will happen. And the anti-Israel holdouts will either join it or regret it.
Note: one is Kuwait whom we saved from Saddam in the first Gulf war.
The other is Iraq whom we rescued from Saddam in the second Gulf war.
Gratitude.
I'm beyond disturbed and depressed about what happened in Muscat. I truly love this city. People who know Oman understand how unprecedented/rare this type of attack was in that country. I hope that something like this never happens again in the Sultanate.
The reaction from neo-conservative voices in Washington to the KSA-Iran agreement makes something clear. They are terrified by the idea of Iran and Gulf Arab states one day getting along. Their interests are in Saudi-Iran relations remaining hostile, not peace and stability.

Oman's bridging role between the UK/US & Iran in relation to sensitive issues continues in the post-Qaboos era. People in DC who criticize Oman for maintaining positive relations with Tehran should keep in mind that such ties make these outcomes possible.
