Top 4d 10k at #SCGBalt yesterday. Draws were A+ and I was 6-0, 12-0 so that was cool. Forth Eorlingas! was fine and easy to sb out (my fav kind of card). I cut magus for 4th Faerie, 4th Forth. Played an easy deck and after 17 rounds of a format I don’t play, my brain is fried.

Won the modern challenge with ol' faithful. I'm unsure about 3rd chalice (and most of sb) but I opened mtgo like 3 mins before event started so I decided to trust past me who for some reason added the 3rd chalice. No matches were close/interesting, format still kinda miserable 🔥

6-2d day 1 of #PTMachine , losses were to the finalists of last year’s worlds which was a bit of a “welcome to the PT” wake up call. Very happy to escape with a 2-1 with that draft deck. In standard Kumano Faces Kakkazan was broken as usual.

Lost the finals of both the pioneer and the modern challenges tonight 😢 Played like someone who hasn't played competitive magic in a month and definitely was rusty on mtgo. All in all I'm happy to get my first double top 8, just hopefully next time I can win the last match. 🌳🔥

Won the pioneer challenge with green, made a *huge* innovation from @argzax 's stock list. Went on a 9-0 run (after my round 1 opponent crushed me then immediately dropped). After losing 2 win-and-ins yesterday, I'm hoping that this is a good omen for the new year! 🌳🌳🌳

Went 4-4 on day 2 of #PTMachine , finished 10-6 for 36th This was the highlight of my limited portion: 2-3 in standard, lost to a mix of bad matchups and bad decisions. I had a lot of fun at my first PT, looking forward to Barcelona.

5-3 day 1 #PTOTJ , BR burn in limited was sick but lost a close one at 2-0 (also my 3 opponents went 2-1, 2-1, 3-0, so good opposing decks). 3-2 with red, none of the matches were all that close, got to 14 someone with performer flip + attack once, it was unremarkable otherwise.

Finished 9-7 (4-4, 5-3) at #PTLOTR . Limited decks were very medium; BR: 2-1, BW: 1-1 + bye. Burn went 5-5, played many good matchups to not good results. Immensely excited to be queued for the next 2 PTs. Turns out I was 1 win from worlds but that was a goal for next year anyway.

4-4 day 1 of #PTKarlov My draft deck was quite medium and I was happy to 2-1. Quin Combo in pioneer felt very medium, and the 2-3 reflected that. Very happy I get to play tomorrow and rack up some AMPs, I should have a big advantage bc I’m used to snow + below freezing temps 🐘❄️

4-4 day 2 of #PTKarlov , 8-8 total ⚖️ 0-3d with what I thought was an ok deck, next time I will do more than 2 drafts in bronze to prepare 4-1 with Quin(n) combo; played clean, crushed the good matchups, got crushed by heroic 🤷‍♂️ Onto the next, need 6-10 in Seattle for Amsterdam 🐘

8-8 overall at #PTOTJ , disappointing from 8-5. 2-1 draft, happy to be back to 4-2ing limited after the pt mkm disaster. 1-4 standard everything went wrong; lost every die roll + bad draws + bad plays. PT afterparty (financed by Obeka Splitter of Seconds) with friends was a blast

Top 4 this year: Vortex/Bridge/Forth are ‘my’ tech. Kumano let me q for 4 PTs. Any cards other than Dreadhorde Arcanist and Wheel of Misfortune work tbh. If I ever try to register those cards again, I give full permission to steal those shitters from my deckbox.

Won a single elim. Shoutout to mtgo autopicker for sapphire (and Hermit) in draft 1. Every game I won by vamp/seal for looting. Draft 2 had a game that took 3 Atraxa etbs and 3 Emrakul attacks to win. Decks were boring, games were insane - the norm for a cube of 1/5 unplayables.

@DannyBambinoMTG @fireshoes Chalice was really good for me, it either won the game when it resolved or it ate a force of will so my fable/forth could resolve (or my initiative creatures if no cavern). I may have kept it in too often but I only boarded it out a couple times so I think it’s well positioned.

@Lukara71 @fireshoes Cut searing blaze against cascade, cut rift bolt against basically everything, cut helix against combo and control, bring in path often (within reason) despite the argument of ‘don’t dilute your deck’ bc not dying to some huge thing gives you the time to draw more burn spells

@MTG_FITNESS You’re right! Stigma lasher was supposed to be for esper Goryo’s and four-color, but solitude, the one ring, and Fallaji archeologist make it not very good against these decks. I try it whenever the metagame shifts because I really like the card, maybe one day it will be good.

Equally excited to not play big events for 6 months bc this whole ‘every round is 20 mins over but half go 30+ over bc of melee issues or people’s inability to not get DQed’ thing is really miserable, esp when venue is surrounded by only hotels + rest of con center is closed off.

@Toph67575040 @fireshoes Don’t like proctor, it’s too easy for amulet to just ‘play fair’ and play a bounceland then eventually win while I wasted time playing a 2 mana 1/3. Ignus prevents their win and kills them. Yawg is a great matchup and scam is ok, no need for searing blood that is weak/narrow

@marco99rossi @fireshoes There are very few shadowspears and omnaths in the meta rn, skullcrack is nice against 4c and goryo’s but vortex does the same thing but better. Also there are a lot of ‘aggro’ decks (rhinos + ragavan decks), so 4 helix helps there.

@oEltinho @fireshoes I cut one fable to make room for Forth, I wasn’t sure but it seemed like one of the weaker cards bc it doesn’t work with cavern. Fable was pretty good tho and I could see playing a 4th, you could probably cut any of the non-human, non-accelerant cards for it (except chalice imo).

@skprtst_ @rohan_sebastian @pioneerplayable @fireshoes I think smash/wear tear are better in the matchups where I’d board in palm (hammer, scales, amulet) except for the mirror and rhinos, and those 3 are burn’s worst matchups so having better but narrower hate is ok. Smash is also good vs ‘random’ decks (tron, misc. saga, chalice).

@marco99rossi @fireshoes There’s very few artifact decks except amulet which usually can beat a smash anyway, also the decks boarding in chalices have no other targets for smash so it feels bad to board them in there. Also if you’re really scared of chalice you can always cut some 1 drops.

@rohan_sebastian @pioneerplayable @fireshoes Personally I’m not a fan, all the non-cascade decks can either kill through it (all the saga decks, yawg, creativity, tron) or are loaded with cheap removal, some of which is > 2cmc (UR decks, scam, creativity). The replacement is vortex which is better vs cascade and creativity.

@DannyBambinoMTG @fireshoes This monoW version seems more like a midrange deck that also can cast t2 init creature. The RW deck felt like a true aggro deck that just wanted to cast a must-counter spell every turn until the opponent ran out of counterspells and then win easily with the remaining threats.

@DannyBambinoMTG @fireshoes I played vs this or similar. I prefer the WR version bc having 8 initiative creatures is insane, and I think WR can’t play thalia/sentinel over chalice bc of 8 sol lands. I agree with the stp/chalice thing, with chalice in play you rarely need stp, if needed dump it to solitude.
