@Stanley_2099 I played Nicole 1-2 rounds later and this matches the version of events she shared with me. I don't even get the ruling. It's not like the OP and Nicole agreed Nicole WINS if her top card is a land. The consequence of issuing no penalty is zero harm done. So why penalize here?

In the 2000s, Pro Tours were accompanied by even more selective 32-player single-elimination events called Masters Series. As great as Kai was on PT Sundays, he had never won the first round of a Masters. At PT New Orleans 2001, his round 1 Masters opponent was a first-timer: me.

While many knew Sheldon Menery for Commander, I most associated him with head judging PTQs, Regionals and higher during my 2000s judge arc. Remarkable to go from enforcement in competitive to one of the most prominent faces of casual. May his memory be a blessing.

The Krosan forest also have really powerful Elephant. They can ambush you by hiding behind trees. Call of the Herd was really good in madness/flashback deck. Druid can call the elephant as a guide in battle, another staple in Stompy deck

25 years ago TODAY, Pro Tour Atlanta 1996 was getting under way at AmericasMart, pictured, a few blocks from where I now live. Objectively the coolest event in MtG history, it featured Sealed Deck using previously unseen and unspoiled Mirage, a week BEFORE the prerelease. 1/X

@SaffronOlive Planeswalkers Overnight, Wizards decided cards that historically activated for 3-5 mana (Centaur Glade, Jayemdae Tome, Disrupting Scepter) can activate for 0 as long as they can be attacked, which many decks don't even do. That's a Time Walk/Ancestral level mana discount.
