Featured on BBC spotlight yesterday. I speak about how our number of inpatients are increasing even living in an area that most people thought to be ‘spared’ or ‘safe.’ I don’t think there is any place ‘safe’ at the moment except staying in your own home. @UHP_NHS @BBCNews

There is a real culture in healthcare of bullying young, female (perhaps especially brown) Doctors and I have experienced it for the first time today. Sadly it was from two other females nurses and I still cannot gather why they even thought it was ok.

Spotted in junior Drs changing room - Why does it have to sound so condescending? This message can be delivered in a far polite manner! FYI, the majority of us did medical schools far away from home and haven’t had the luxuries of home ever since we committed to this career!

FY1s *must not attempt* to interpret ECGs independently? This is deeply concerning for a cardiology reg such as myself who takes referrals from F1s daily and needs them to attempt ECG interpretation independently. This is an essential skill that doctors of any grade should learn!

Just finished my first set of on calls as a Medical reg - 15 MET calls & 3 cardiac arrests later, I can confirm it is a tough job but also a very satisfying one! Also in awe of how amazingly one of the arrests was led by @girishviswa in cath lab, more of a reason to do cardio!

1/2 Today, I saw a patient who likely had a TLOC 2 to circulatory collapse from a severe allergic reaction. She was referred to cardiology for ?arrhythmia. My years spent in medical school, foundation programme and IMT came through to help me make this diagnosis.

Ladies, how do you respond and what do you think about male patients making comments like ‘I wish I was single’ or ‘I wish I was 20 years younger’ when you are trying to clerk or review them? Often it’s from nice patients and I am sure they don’t mean to be offensive but…

2/3 The training years are there for a reason and our job role (of a Doctor) remains different for a reason. It doesn’t make sense to job share with another profession as per the new initiative by NW foundation school.

@Dr_BellaR Doctors have a tendency to not leave the ward or continue working all day because they can’t eat but encourage breaks even if they can’t physically eat in those breaks, it’s so nice just to be able to sit down and not use any brain power for a while

@helen_barnowl @richgamlin More than threatened, it belittles you. I recently led a medical emergency call for a very sick patient, when he was better, he put it down to the ‘beauty of my eyes’ which made everyone else laugh but really reduced me in my abilities as a Doctor.

@PharmacistExpat Doesn’t matter where this policy is for, I alongside all my doctor colleagues would have atleast 3 if not more years experiencing of interpreting ECGs so I am not sure how it makes sense to restrict F1s but allow PAs, who inevitably would have much less knowledge

@memeosauras @MHA_92_ Also because there are definitely female-female power dynamic issues. As a young female doctor, I have always found it difficult to be liked by other female HCPs as anything I may say or do can easily sound like a ‘entitled Dr’ rather than me just doing my job.

1/2 ‘Milky coffee’, ‘women telling me what to do’, ‘need to find a rope so I can strangle them all’ is the kind of abuse I and our all women doctors team had to hear on the ward round yesterday by a patient. 3 of us including the consultant were of south Asian origin.

@dralisonj @Dr_Done_ I am a med Reg and I always introduce myself by my first name and my role when anyone calls me. Do you think it would help if I said, ‘Hi, this is Dr …’ considering there may be MAPs on med Reg rota?? And a GP may assume every med Reg is a doctor?

#MedTwitter Can anyone recommend good PACES courses please? Also if your exam date is at the end of the diet, would you be at a disadvantage by doing the course too early?

Today marks a year since the U.K. first went into lock down and what an unforeseeable, eye-opening, physically and emotionally consuming year it has been. Grateful that the family & I have remained safe during the last year but also remembering the many precious lives lost 🦋

@karenizobel Unbelievable, what else did he expect you to call your self? Your degree does earn you that job title, when will people stop treating F1s as a ward slave/below the level of an undergraduate admin. F1s are degree accredited Doctors 🤦🏻‍♀️

Was getting used to being called ‘clever girl’ at work until I sit with non-medics and realise the only thing I kind of know is medicine and apparently no one else is as excited about seeing epsilon wave on ECGs 😅 #medtwitter #cardiotwitter #justanexcitedgirl

@BirkhoelzerS Will they be awarded with a degree in the end? If they do not go to university? I don’t understand why the medicine courses can’t just be made more accessible and seats increased?!
