Today exactly 9 years ago is when the Mumbai got it's first metro line. The blue line (line 1) of Mumbai Metro opened between Versova and Ghatkopar on 8th June 2014.
Mumbai's Powai is peak south asian urbanism hands down, and it's only getting better now that Pink, Green and Aqua lines of Mumbai Metro are expected to open soon.

Sir 3 corrections,
1. This is not Japan this is China
2. It is not a bullet train it is the Taizhou Regional Metro (kinda like their RRTS but slower).
3. These are all basically animation and special effects for a government ad as the regional metro line S2 is going to open soon.
One can surely debate whether the deal Adani is giving to residents of Dharavi is fair or not. But they need to understand that Dharavi redevelopment is inevitable and the Adani deal might be the last make or break chance for Bombay.
Let's not fess this up due to politicians.

A city with 70% public transport modal share cannot have car dependency it’s traffic is purely a result of too much density, too few roads and no ring roads for outer cordon traffic at all.

NCR needs RRTS because they have a barely function suburban rail system.
Our suburban rail system is light years better than NCR, all it needs is AC EMUs and speed upgrades to 160.
When the same thing happens in India, we call it things like bad infrastructure/bad planning/poor governance/poor maintainance, etc.

RRTS rake is designed by the Alstom India office. Besides we have designed our own world class trains before too. Be it train 18 or Mumbai metro's BEML rakes, they are all Indian.
other construction equipment is fine, but first and foremost we need PLI and other incentives in manufacturing TBMs in India.
A huge portion of our construction costs, especially in metro construction, can be reduced by that.
Excessive use of Chinese machinery in heavy engineering construction projects in India is a bit concerning

This map is distorted to show SoBo larger & more area covered by metro but in reality the size of Mumbai suburbs is 3x the size of SOBO & metro coverage is limited over there. Classic case of Mercator Projection which made Christian countries larger than Africa & Asia & S.America
And my friends this is why HSR was kept away from railway babudom, including going to the lengths of making it SG.

Personally, I am of the opinion that Boisar and Bilimora don't deserve stoppages. Thereafter, the stoppages at Bharuch and Anand also need to be reviewed. Ideally, it should stop only at Thane, Virar (maybe), Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad.

Next time when someone says that under MVA infrastructure is doing well in MMR, just ask them what happened to Mumbai Metro lines 8, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14. CST-Panvel Fast Corridor and all other suburban railway projects.

Now all the big names that I took, environment impact assessment, social impact assessment, strategic environment assessment, Proposal of alternatives assessments (pre and post discussions with the stakeholders involved) are all present on the MMRC website.
Can't think of more precious space of real estate that IR is wasting in MMR than the Mahalaxmi workshop.
This same workshop can easily exist in someplace like Naigaon or Virar too.
At least build some towers on top of it like Hudson yards. 😭

If there's one similarity between Gujarat and NJ it's the approach toward buses.
A Thriving bus service compensating for dwindling train services, the affinity for large bus terminals (GJ imho doing it better than NJ as they're heavily commercialized) and just good buses overall.
Never having it easy from day one, the 11 km line with 12 stations connected Andheri and Ghatkopar, two among the busier suburban railway stations with various office districts around Gundavali, Marol Naka and Saki Naka.
It began carrying more passengers than capacity.
While this development is good, BEST should remember that suburban depots like Charkop, Poisar and Malvani exists.
These depots have no electric buses, they can definitely send a few Olectra X2s to run on 277, 276, etc.

It is fine to criticize this Hayden but you need to remember 2 things:-
1. Mumbai is also building 450 km of metro lines, 337 of which will all open before 2030. The rest before 2040.
2. This is a part of a ring road plan, we can criticise the method but can't deny it's need.

It's too far away there's no work going on for the rest of the route. Ahmedabad - Mumbai itself was the wrong route in the first place. Also upgrading existing track will be of more benefit to the existing users, a bullet train ticket price will be too expensive for them

Over time, Blue line would cause out of it's stations like Azad Nagar, DN Nagar, Versova and Gundavali, stations like Marol Naka, Chakala would become a great spot to put hotels, colleges and offices.
We have a chance to build these trains🚆across India if you choose your leaders and make demand wisely. We simply CANNOT be a country whose infrastructure is dependent on cars 🚘 when ONLY 7.5% of the population drives.
Everyone heard of a cross-platform transfer, but have you heard of a cross-train transfer?
At Jurong East MRT, it’s possible to transfer from a NSL train at Platform A to a WB EWL train at Platform F when timed perfectly, without having to go though the concourse level.

Running trains at 3 to 4 minute frequencies for over 18 hours a day carrying over 45,000 passengers per hour during peak with just 4 car rakes, compare this to Red and Yellow line, that combined, carry 40,000 passengers per hour during peak time with 6 car rakes.

This is stupid, any HSR built between Mumbai and Nagpur today will be extended to Kolkata tomorrow and act as a high speed version of the golden/diamond diagonal relieving the conventional Mumbai-Howrah diagonal route significantly.
