Very pleased finally to be publishing Clarke's Latin VI, the penultimate book in the series (which will conclude with GCSE and IGCSE standard in CL VII) and one of whose design and content I am - if I say so myself - especially proud. [1/5]
Horror of a mob of West Yorkshire Police arresting some poor autistic girl reminds me of that wonderful (potentially apocryphal) story about a man catching a burglar and the police refusing to come out because they had no-one available in the area. Man rang back and said "Don't
And in response to some of the “they’re British” - on paper, maybe. But anyone who behaves *like this*; anyone who hates every single thing about us, and utterly rejects our culture and our morality and our way of life? No, they’re not British. And they don’t deserve to be here.

I’m not convinced there are many other events that would enjoy this latitude. “Glyndebourne was a great success this year, with eight stabbings the only slight blot on an otherwise immaculate Tristan und Isolde.”
Whatever you may think of Nigel Farage, I find this utterly terrifying. So many stories are emerging atm of people whose accounts are suddenly yanked after years of no issues - banks should not have the right to do this, not at *least* without good explanation. And I don’t accept
The establishment are trying to force me out of the UK by closing my bank accounts.
I have been given no explanation or recourse as to why this is happening to me.
This is serious political persecution at the very highest level of our system.

and I are both gay Tories. We met via political interests, and on Saturday I asked him to marry me. The best, most joyous day of my life has come about because a Tory government made it possible. So up yours, mister. Take the divisive rhetoric elsewhere.
Gay Tories are traitors.
Yes, there are many individual members of the Conservative party who support LGBTQ rights in some form or another, but the party as a whole has always stood in the way of queer liberation.
Just felt the need to say that in the run up to London Pride.
In order to look to the future, the UK needs to be able to have mature conversations about our nation’s past. This includes confronting the legacy of slavery and colonialism.
I was recently asked on LBC if the Royal Family should apologise for slavery. Here’s what I said:
This is how you deal with Just Stop Oil et al. blocking roads - remove them quickly and efficiently the moment they are reported. Why our police behave like it’s the teddy bears’ fucking picnic in this country I really don’t understand.

Farewell, dear sweet Tabitha, who died in my arms today, aged ten years and eight months, and takes with her a piece of my poor broken heart. May she sit among the angels and in eternity bat at their wings. Rest your weary paws, my love x
Bit dispiriting when terrorist activists are screaming "JIHAD!" on the streets of London to have the police go all fucking dictionary corner about it. "Well of course, they could be referring to the 18th c. Moroccan bedpan of the same name..." Where's Gene Hunt when you need him?

But murder *is* a criminal matter; and I don’t see a distinction, bluntly, between an illegal abortion of a 34-week old infant and killing the baby after birth. There are ontological arguments to be had over 20, 21, 22 weeks - but eight months?! That’s a child.

It baffles me how teachers ignore their own childhood experiences. Who genuinely remembers group work, for example, being constructive? Or lessons spent in IT labs? These were licences to piss about when I was at school and, broadly, remain so. 'Twas ever thus, 'twill ever be...
Still intrigued by the anti-strict brigade. When you were a kid did everyone treat each other 100% of the time with total respect, was there no bullying, no fights, no slyness? Did we all, as kids, talk about our learning all the time? I strongly doubt it. Realism not pessimism.

Given that we're apparently about to surrender the Chagos Islands, I'm far from bloody convinced about the government's interest in defending the Falklands or anywhere else. Hell, they can't even police our own borders.

Quite apart from the fatuous message, in thirteen years of teaching this may very well be the worst handwriting I have ever seen.
I mean it is quite fitting that a Wagner epic took place over twenty hours - just a bit disappointing Prigozhin didn’t fall in love with any of his own relatives or have a dwarf put a curse on his Kalashnikov or something.

Thank you, grandad's lucky briefcase - I shall be, from September, Head of Classics at one of the top schools in the country. Very emotional beat after such a punishing year. They offered me the post an hour and a half after the interview!
My poor baby. She’s still purry and creakily inquisitive and deeply affectionate, but now riddled with cancer. It’s time for her to slip away before she’s in pain; booked in for next Friday. I know I’ve done all the right things, but it’s going to be so desolate without her. 💔
If you'll forgive a moment's immodesty, I'm quite proud of my "glow up" (is that the phrase?). 37lb (17kg) in eleven weeks (LH pic was December). It's the first time I've felt I actually looked nice in as long as I can remember. Target's not far off now.

What a wicked thing to say. My fiancé & I are both LGBTQ Tories and are getting married next year thanks to legislation which our party enacted. I couldn't wish for a more gentle, kind, loyal partner and I love him to bits. Only a fool would seek to banish him from the community.

I'm probably going to be up most of the night creating half a term's worth of online teaching. This should have been decided days ago. More than that, it really hurts - as a card-carrying Tory for ten years now - to be left defending the utterly indefensible (yet again).
RIP Ross Cooper, who passed away peacefully this evening after a long and happy life. He was a professional cricketer, a military veteran, an inventor, engineer and entrepreneur, and I was so very proud to be his grandson. Go gently, grandad, with all my love.

I’ve been a paid-up party member since I turned 18 and became eligible to vote, ten years ago. I’m still a dyed-in-the-wool conservative at heart, but I am so, so tired of having to defend the completely indefensible in moments like this.
"I won't have this divisive language. I just won't have it" says Matt H before, sitting down indignantly having not even tried to answer the question. So is anyone who dares have the temerity to query Gov's failings to be dismissed as divisive? The arrogance is breath-taking!

The irony is that - speaking as someone who's, on average, been chubby throughout adult life - none of these fatuous policies would make the slightest difference to my size. I cooked a chicken casserole last night and ate a large portion of it; what next, tax the shallot?
75,000 words, 6,000 questions, 460 pages and 24 continuous passages later, I have finally produced the first draft of Clarke’s Latin, Part I. Workbook form, copious practice exercises - traditional. Watch this space!
