I read in a book that it's good Chess training if you commit full master games to memory... I guess today is a good day to start with an easy one...

Two conclusions about Yesterday's #BanterBlitzCup final. 1. Magnus vs. Alireza will be THE rivalry of the 2020s 2. The banter format is genius. Watching the ups and downs from the player's perspective, with all the psychology in play, is pure gold. More of that, please!

I deleted my earlier tweet about Carlsen's withdrawal as it could be easily misunderstood as an accusation of cheating coming from myself. That was not intended and I apologize for giving that impression.

#FreestyleChess is the first time I have watched this variant more closely, and also the last time. It's pointless to see the best players play trash positions for hours. Impossible to make it engaging for beginners, too. It hasn't gained any traction for decades for reasons.

Even after those two nailbiters in the semis of the @MagnusCarlsen Invitational, there will be some people who think a game of Chess has to last 6 hours and needs to be played in some godforsaken place in the middle of nowhere. Well, why exactly? #FutureOfChessStartsNow

I just answered a student's question on @Chessable about this position. The question was 'Black has 6 moves to defend the b-pawn. What makes the most sense strategically?' It's surprisingly instructive to study in some detail. What do you think?

Evgeny Sveshnikov has passed away - RIP. He had a huge impact on Chess theory, not only for the Sicilian line that bears his name. In the 1970s his research was revolutionary and avant-garde - today we know that his trademark Sicilian line is one of the very best replies to 1.e4!

@lularobs Chess had some strange people. One of the best statements I ever received after I won a game was the following. My opponent said that he played all the mistakes on purpose to test if I'd be able to find the refutation. Otherwise, the game would have been a boring win for him...

I am 100% sure I'd lose the current Magnus-Nepo game from both sides. With White, I'd bungle the compensation. With Black, I'd just get annihilated because of all the weaknesses. Really tense and cool game! We might see a win today and no draw! #FIDEMatch2021 #CarlsenNepo

I just looked through an old game of mine. I played GM Krogius in 1994. It was a draw, and I always thought it was a reasonable game. If you have fond memories of old games and don't want them shattered... keep the engine off. We both played terribly, missing the simplest stuff.

Why on earth do they still publish print books for supposed self-improvement that have exercises with the solution printed directly below the diagram? This is so bad, it's ridiculous. Yes, you can try to hide them with a paper - but still makes no sense at all.

If @anishgiri plays the Pirc today and wins, I'll gift my @Chessable course to him and 10 raffle winners. And yes, this is probably not going to happen ;-)

Doing quality checks of my writing. Is it embarrassing to misspell 'embarrassing' three times in a chapter, each time differently?

Something for opening nerds in Shakh-Grandelius in Wijk. After 1.Nf3 c5 2.c4 Nc6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.e3 a6!? 5.d4 cxd4 5.exd4 d5 they got to a Caro-Kann Panov. I cover this pet line of GM Rasmus Svane in my 'Keep It Simple for Black' @Chessable course. Can you guess who is Nils' second?

I just found a game on Lichess that went 1.e4 g5 2.d4 f5 3.Qg4 fxg4 0-1 It's likely rating manipulation... or the worst mouse slip ever...

Explain your @ On July 7,2011 a workmate asked me to explain my thoughts during a game of chess. To share this with him, later this day I started the youtube channel 'Chessexplained', and all other accounts followed.
