Whilst I've been spending time fretting about health & finances (like everyone), I wanted to share that I've had an unbelievable week, with my daughter qualifying as a Dr & my eldest son completing his Masters.
Years of hard work and online graduation. Funny old game (of life).
Damien Lewis on Helen McCrory
She always over-tipped, especially cabbies, who were sent from heaven as far as she was concerned (she didn’t drive), of whose lives she would know everything by the end of the ride. And waitresses, because “I’ve done it and it’s f***ing hard”.
It is patently obvious from the volume of tweets that Uber's service in London is failing.
Rather than embarrass and/or berate the person, wouldn't it be more beneficial to educate the 'potential' customer that the taxi service is available for them?
Positivity wins the day.
Uber lobbied in an effort to replace worldwide, regulated taxi industry.
Politicians enabled them.
Drivers committed suicide. People lost businesses. Marriages collapsed.For what?
For a lawbreaking company to rack up huge liabilities, including £2 billion in UK VAT
#Uberfiles
Outcome aside, if this isn't the best money invested into your own future, I don't know what is.
Shame on the freeloaders. Full respect to the donors, without you it wouldn't be possible
@UTAG17
Uber were originally licenced in 2012. They have not been compliant one day. Not one.
They have been 'allowed' to operate unlawfully every day, in an effort to gain a monopoly.
Any competent regulator would have 'tested' their model in court rather than put out the welcome mat.
I am pleased the new TfL Commissioner, Andy Byford, appreciates the important role black cabs play in London. It's vital that TfL looks at the impact Khan's Streetspace schemes are having on taxis.
Today we said farewell to Tony Healey after a heart attack took him at just 62.
All our thoughts are with his wife, Wendy, his children - John, Jodie, Sam and all 8 of his grandchildren, who I know he was so proud off.
Light off, Tony, rest well.
Over 600 taxi drivers decided not to renew their Badges in the fist half of 2022.
4,500 drivers have left the trade since Sadiq Khan became Mayor.
People complain they can't get a cab, is it any wonder with TfL and central governments policies?
Let's not forget that TfL failed to suspend/revoke Uber's Ops Licence,twice, allowing them to carry on with their unlawful model whilst
@UTAG17

If we lose TCR, Bishopsgate & other important through routes, we'd be losing competitive advantages gained by completing the KoL. For years trade sat idle & watched it's work & rights eroded, it's still happening but now there's a choice. Donate to

Consider this.
Best taxi trade in world had to take its own Regulator to court, again, in an effort to protect travelling public. Just let that sink in.
Waiting for Supreme Court acceptance to protect our customers, especially those with protected characteristics.

I thought overall it was a good day and that Uber have a mountain to climb to overturn the Supreme Court comments. Judges were very switched on, hoping for another good day tomorrow. Support

This is why your support is crucial, when we say we're in the fight of our lives, we aren't being dramatic, we really are!
Tomorrow
@UTAG17
will be in Court defending the working practices of the taxi trade.
I'd like to extend our thanks to those that have chosen to support.
My mate runs a pub in Nightingale Lane, Wanstead. He was,made up when the legendary Suggs from Madness turned up, totally announced in an Uber.

the email sent by TfL to the Boroughs should assist you. I believe it clearly demonstrates the difficult position TfL find themselves in such is the strength of our victory that they've reached out to others.
What a coincidence that TfL failed to release this report for two months but just 24 hours after disclosing to

Letter also includes number of complaints received by Uber London Limited.
Between 1/12/18 and 31/5/2019, it received 597,881 complaints.
Of those, 27,799 related to passenger safety. In October, Uber said it had investigated 15,937 complaints, 1,521 were deemed "serious".
Been a great day, lots of positivity around. I'd be grateful if you can show

some appreciation, Darren has gone above and beyond to support us and is another unsung hero in my opinion.
Thanks Darren.
Today marks the 14 month anniversary of Westminster Magistrates Court decision to grant Uber a 15-month probationary license, just 1-month remains
Another license will bring the whole licensing regime in to disrepute, as they simply cannot be deemed to be a fit & proper operator
Hearing that Georgie Vyse has been involved in a life threatening accident and has been airlifted to Kings.
Our thoughts and prayers are with George and his family.
We must await the judgement but we are feeling confident that if TfL were allowed an appealed, we should be allowed one to the Supreme Court.
We cannot allow for certain roads to be taken away, we have to put every effort in to saving roads where there is bus access.

If you have to subsidise it with $30 billion, it's not the 'free market'.
To every cabbie and every cab company that weathered the storm, you're hero's. True hero's.
Licensed a company that exploited 40,000 drivers in London (for at least 6 years) that foisted pain and suffering on two different industries (and still does) and now tweets about mental and physical well-being whilst continuing to License them.

Those that are tweeting that

will lose the taxi trade a work source are incredibly ignorant. Stop and think about it..
If the booking on FreeNow is illegal or PH drivers ply for hire, the most likely outcome is that FreeNow will revert back to taxi only! You're welcome.
Uber should not have been licenced. Period.
TfL allowed them to operate for 10 years with an unlawful model.
I dare say, they are still unlawful now
They are certainly breaching licencing conditions
Public enquiry required
What will TfL do?
Best guess, nothing
#UberFiles
In just 7 days
@UTAG17
and
@TheLTDA
will be back in court defending the rights of taxis to use Bishopsgate.
TfL will be again using public funds in an effort to stop their own licensee carrying out their legitimate trade, including assisting those with disabilities.
CoVid 19 UPDATE
If you rent a Vito from Cabvision, we are taking proactive measures to support you over the next month, as we anticipate very challenging trading circumstances.
Please read the statement below, personal emails will go directly to your inboxes on Monday.
Just 10 days left of Uber's 15 month probationary license.
Seems rude not to have a daily count down and a hashtag
#UberDaysLeft
Lack of governance worldwide, no desire to be better citizens, failing to keep records, drivers working whilst uninsured
#NotFitAndProper
Whilst we wait. On the soap box...
This is the representation the trade should have on an ongoing basis.
It is incumbent on us all to contribute in an effort to protect the trades future and ensure that we aren't stripped of our rights in broad daylight.

Bankrupt TfL To Axe 80 Bus Routes

Evening Standard
Just finished reading the Supreme Court judgment.
Think it is fair to say that TfL, the "Specialist Regulator" has been "professionally embarrassed" by Lord Reed.
Just awaiting now for the GLA and others to demand the immediate suspension/revocation of Uber's license.

There are 2 big stories today regarding Uber |& their UK operations.
1. They might owe UK treasury and VAT a combined £1.5 billion
2. Medway Council have deemed their business model relating to out of town vehicles ilegal & are going to support a prosecution
#FridayMotivation
Very interesting couple of days in Court.
Will the taxi trade choose to be involved in the next round that's the question?
TfL know that every wrong decision will be challenged. What price your job?
Are we losing the rounds but winning the fight?
I believe we are.
@UTAG17
At the busiest time of year, when there are lots of people (but especially young women wanting to get home), we hear that TfL are allowing PHV's to work without a TfL roundel. This appears to be a huge public safety risk, with up to 2500 cars.
@TfLTPH
can you please claify?
For those who said that
@UTAG17
would never get a plying for hire argument in front of a court, tomorrow's for you.
"Lions do not concern themselves with opinions of sheep" - Lionel Messi.
We went from winning 70% of the arguments to winning 0%. Let that sink in for a minute.
If that doesn't motivate, frustrate, anger, upset you then I do not know what will,
Some are saying 'what is the point' to that I say, surely you had these moments studying the KoL. Did you give up then, if not, why give up now?
If you are making a living from a taxi, then you have a duty to support
@UTAG17
The only thing standing in our way is ourselves.
If today doesn't go as we hope for, don't be too despondent, we fight on.
Yesterday, Uber opened themselves up to a group action
They also did irreparable damage to their EaT case, as they admit to exercising control over the driver
These points are not to be underestimated
So sorry we couldn't hold on to the victory.
Disappointed, absolutely, a major setback, for-sure - but tomorrow is just another day. We'll collect our thoughts overnight and then simply get on with it.
If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and try again!
In 4 weeks,
@UTAG17
will be climbing into the ring with not one but two behemoths, namely Uber and TfL in an effort to ensure that the regulatory regime is upheld.
Your trade needs you. Work levels are back, please support.
*I think you're all seeing the effort that has gone into presenting this case.
@UTAG17
&
@TheLTDA
presented 1200 pages of evidence
This was a massive team effort, where trade demonstrated that when there is common will, you can reach a consensus
LTDA's PR has also been v.good
We're all done for today. ADCU being excused from tomorrow, as Part 8 hearing is complete.
UTAG v TfL tomorrow as the Judge says over three words 'Plying for Hire'.
There are just 21 days left of Uber's 2 month license.
Today
@guy_lynn
has exposed the failures of the regulator to protect the public.
Let's rachet up our efforts and ensure that we continue to expose TfL's failings and educate the public of the dangers of using private hire.
Judge was effectively persuaded by 10 minute testimony of a 5 day a month non-exec, whose responsibility it is to act in the interests of shareholders, many of whom were the old execs that were responsible for the breaches - absolute farce
What drivers are doing on Walton Place is ridiculous.
Pop-up rank goes all the way down to Beauchamp Place, making residents drive on wrong side of the road, including the blind bend.
Ridiculous behaviour, not the way to win hearts and minds
@TheLTDA
@UnitedCabbies
@The_LCDC
In short, it is virtually impossible for an App based Operator to lose their PHV License.
TfL taking a neutral stance has set a very dangerous precedent for public safety in a Mini-cab in London.
So, as predicted, TfL are using the public purse to cobble together an Appeal having lost on four out of five grounds.
Let's hope the Appeals Court see it for what it is and throw it out, refusing to give their retrospective arguments further oxygen.
#UberFiles
Uber would have you believe they took on the 'taxi cartel' and were the underdog.
Real truth is that they wanted to take over a regulated industry & create a monopoly.
Reality is they lobbied, they lied, they cheated. Aided and abetted by powerful people. All duped.
If your business model is deemed to be illegal by three courts, can you be a fit and proper entity?
Did I miss anyone from GLA calling for Uber's license to be revoked today on that basis or TfL for that matter?
Consumers are very vocal now that they've become the victims of Uber's questionable operating model rather than the beneficiaries.
Their epiphany has been a long time in the making, but Chickens are well are truly roosting.
Strangely, haven't heard 'adopt or die' for a while!

Going to be an interesting watch tomorrow night. We probably won't learn much but will be nice that the illicit behaviour is made public by third parties and not the 'sour' taxi industry!
It's interesting reading the comments on how people perceive the performance.

@HotwaxAngie
Karen & myself have been here many times. My advice, don't beat yourself up, don't try & second guess the outcome.

I don't think anyone in the taxi industry learned anything new from last nights expose.
What it has done for me, is rehighlight the injustice that the trade has suffered at the hands of an incompetent regulator that was leant on by senior government officials.
***JUST TWENTY ONE DAYS***
@UTAG17
will be in court on 13 Feb.
I'm told contributions have gone in to overdrive, maybe it's the 12 year rule, maybe it's exclusion from more streets or maybe we have found the spirit of unity and collaboration as well as a backbone!
#NowOrNever
Another call to arms.
@UTAG17
cannot fight on your behalf without you funding that fight.
Is Bishopsgate important to you? How about TCR and the Two-Tier system? What about Uber operating illegally and TfL being complicit?
If any of these or all are important, join the fight.
Brilliant result today - has been a great effort by all the team but I'm especially pleased for
@TM1654
as he's been uncompromising in his belief that PH are in our marketplace & that defining P4H is what's required for all the other taxi components to move back in to place.
