Unpopular opinion:
Japan is not that hot in summer. Most people live in air con 24/7 such as on every train and bus, inside every single shop, inside your apartment unless life is too hard for you.
Today's lesson: Don't make Japanese women angry in public or they'll film you, call you racist and ask people to help destroy your livelihood. Next time just keep saying sorry repeatedly and she'll eventually get back on the broomstick and fly away.
I'm looking forward to buying a house in Japan for ¥100,000 then posting on social media that no houses in Japan have insulation because I'm freezing 🥶
Here's a harsh reality, moved the family back to Japan for a better life as cost of living in Australia is too much. After 8 months of work, 3 of my wife's colleagues quit, she now has to take work home after a 10 hour shift, works about 5 hours at home too.
Day 1 in Japan, everything is different it's amazing.
Year 1 in Japan, I'm like a celebrity everyone stares at me.
Year 3 in Japan, there's no one is this small country town like me therefore Japan is racist.
I'm thinking about starting a blog about moving to rural Japan and calling everyone racist and demanding 'diversity' while refusing to return to my own country and saying that somehow I am special.
This hasn't been done before has it?
Due to recent unfortunate events, I may have to find myself some employment in Japan.
Jobs I want - Music engineer, artist, entertainer, doorman, chef, butcher, DJ, man whore
Jobs I'm qualified for - Language teacher
I remember moving to Japan, going to a bar and meeting Japanese people. I said 'Hi my name is Nick I'm from Australia. '
They would say 'Do you know Matthew?'
Of course I would say 'Yes. We've known each other for a long time.'
But in reality, I don't know who the fuck that was.
Fuck me just arrived back in Japan and already the racism has started. This bathtub was obviously not made for the foreigner. They did this on purpose so we can't wash, then they will say we stink! Stupid racist bathtubs!
@dadsweb67
In my opinion people are still obsessed in Japan but I feel they're more subtle with their display of success and perhaps don't rub it in as much. For example my wealthy friends will pay for dinner before I get the chance but they don't want praise for it.
Our rent in Osaka is about ¥110,000 a month for a 3 bedroom apartment. It's slightly higher than what you can find because it's been renovated just before moving in. Could pay ¥80,000 to ¥90,000 for a similar sized apartment. No car park but has bike parking.
Hi guys, I'm having a heart attack but I don't trust Japanese doctors, what the he'll would they know? Anyway, reddit is the best place for medical advice so what should I do? 🔫 🔫 🇺🇸
I respect your opinion but disagree. Japanese culture has prevented the country from becoming a violent, drug filled cess pit like so many other countries. If everything in Japan changes to be just like the west would western people stop visiting?
Almost every apartment I’ve sent to my realtor are not available to foreigners I’m so pissed. I’ve sent at least 20….. this kind of discrimination in Japan needs to stop ASAP
I'm having a disagreement with my wife about buying a house in Japan. She believes that no older house can be renovated enough to withstand an earthquake. I disagree, so in the end, I will do whatever the fuck I want.
Shit like this is why I continue to laugh at people that lie. Make a video on becoming an ALT, tell everyone the wage is no good and there's not really any way to progress, get upset when someone else says exactly the same thing.
What am I missing?
It's interesting how foreign tourist numbers in Japan have sky rocketed, people are complaining about over tourism all the time, but the allegedly 'racist' Japanese police are not arresting foreigners at an enormously increased rate. 🤔 Perhaps they're not even racist?🤔
Something I learnt from r/japanlife, all users are experts in the areas of medicine, taxation, economics, education but for some reason they struggle with bank transfers and need to transfer money internationally each day 🤔🤔
I tried to use this washing machine but it was too complicated.
My son was stumped.
Even my wife who is a native speaker could not decipher it.
Japan is a movie.
Racism.
Short answers mean you are targeting me and will be blocked.
I'm special in the countryside.
I don't understand why the crappy exchange rate between Yen and $US matters? Is everyone in Japan sending money back to US? Is everyone buying goods from US? If it's so important would it be better to move to US until rates improve?
Shohei Ohtani spoke to the press today about his marriage but did not disclose much information about his wife. On Twitter Japan the gossip/speculation appears to be continuing, with focus on the same person I mentioned in my earlier thread:
1. Move to Japan.
2. Don't bother learning the language because it's more difficult than watching cartoons.
3. Only communicate in my native language.
4. Japan is xenophobic because they won't cater to my language while I live in their country.
Even a brand new apartment or house in Japan is significantly cheaper than one in Australia, the same Australia that has an abundance of land and raw materials to build houses.
I don't want to be too controversial here, but not every culture in the world is the same. Not every culture in the world holds the same values as your culture. When you move from your wealthy neighbourhood to another country you should remember that.
No extra money for the extra work. I'm fortunate enough that my salary means my wife doesn't have to work, but she wants and it helps. I think she should quit but she says she needs to stay a little longer or it will look negatively on her resume
I guess since the $US is so high, people living in the USA have a great life and most things are affordable yeah? For example when you get shot by the police you have enough money to pay the hospital bill. Not like Japan at all.
I've made a mistake with my childcare costs in Osaka. It's ¥20,000 a month including food for 6 days a week care. From April we're changing to a closer place that didn't have vacancies last year. The cost is free for my daughter who is almost 4. Yes, free childcare
@shin_the3rd
Perhaps there is something lost in translation. Him asking to speak English is rude but not racist. Him being disrespectful at the shrine is also rude but not racist. He is likely not innocent but likely not being racist in the video.
I'm failing miserably on the Japan bucket list.
🚫refused service
🚫told to go back home
🚫harassed by the police
🚫crazy Japanese girlfriend
🚫work at Nova
🚫can't use ATM
🚫extreme body odour
What am I doing wrong?
I understand people want to share their good and bad experiences about Japan, but so many points of view come across like a billionaire looking down at their maids for not cleaning fast enough. I guess anyone can share their opinions though🤔
I think the best way to have a difficult time when moving to a new country is to constantly compare everything to where you are from.
For example, when in Japan don't use ¥ yen/en. Always use $ dollars for every price.
Taking a year off work soon. Taking a massive, massive gamble. I've bought a bunch of gear to record music and plan on recording and releasing a bunch of stuff, possibly on vinyl and CD. Using an alias not my real name or face. Fingers crossed it pays off.
Off to Japan to see the family in 10 days. 1st visit since dogshit COVID wrecked the world! It will be interesting to see how things have changed in a few years?!
Had a rough time in Japan this summer. First I went to some famous restaurant and it had no AC. Left there and went to a shop that also had no AC. I decided to go home on the train and again no AC. This place is like 1984.
I am sitting and watching the clock, waiting for July 17th when I fly to Japan. Completely unmotivated and do not care about anything at all, only joining my family.
I find I'm being repeatedly questioned as to why I would want to leave Australia and live in Japan, as if to say Australian Utopia is flawless. My answer - because I want to.
Took 2 months to go 105kg to 95kg with diet only. 5 days to get back to 100kg with BBQ and beer. I think if I really try hard, I can get to 120kg just to make my wife angry 😠
Also, wife weighs 43kg
Went to the doctor in Japan and he totally disagreed with all the research I did myself on the internet and he called me fat. Can anyone recommend a doctor that will agree with me?
The problem with Japan is that it's cold outside. Japan should get warmer like my home country, which I left to come to Japan, so I can tell people in Japan how perfect it is, while I'm not there.
Arrived back in Australia and again some culture shock. Have to double lock all the doors and check the cameras to make sure I wasn't robbed. Shops closed in the evening and can't walk anywhere, at least in my location.
I am descended from the great Nobunaga. My father was half Japanese and here is his photo as proof. Now everything I say about Japan is factual because as you can see from the picture, I am descended from the great Nobunaga.
@jmicroj
Yes I agree it was very rude. He should not have done that. I understand she would get angry because it's Japan and the language is Japanese. He was wrong to speak to her that way.
I went to Facebook and joined a bunch of English teachers in Japan pages and they are just all shitting on each other bigtime! Much, much worse than here!
Bad news, sick since my last day in Japan. Went to the local clinic today and my ears have been bleeding! Probably because I got on the plane with a sinus infection and a passport that went through the wash
@mizunokioku1
No the whole thing wasn't a joke. Initially if you check my post I said it's good that Japanese people are speaking up. I certainly made some jokes in between but the flow of shit on me by anonymous internet users was enough to keep me interested
This is one of the greatest threads of all time. It's like each one of these people has said the thing on reddit!
Damn racist rubbish bins in Japan 🤣🤣🤣
Breaking news - I've done an hour Japanese language study since January and I'm moving to Japan in July! Also my language ability is equal to a young child 🤔🤔
A black guy, possibly Caribbean, has lived in Japan for 10 years & shows us all how integration works.
"Japan is based on social rules, the nail that sticks up gets hammered down", Japanese are expected to conform too.
"If you behave like Japanese people you'll be accepted."
Someone sent me this. I can't believe a foreigner would come to Japan to teach English and end up trying to tell kids that some foreigners have mental health problems.
Being an ALT you have so much free time.
One school I worked at they put us all in a room for months with no classes.
The worst part you have to be at work from the start time to the end time.
You have to take initiative.
These lines are from the video not from me.
All these foreigners having so many problems in Japan but not me? Why?
I just realised. I'm not Japanese. I'm not trying to be Japanese. I'm trying to live in Japan. When I'm treated differently I'm not offended because I stand out physically.
I think I should have 2 social media profiles, one staunchly pro Japanese, resistant to foreign influence. The 2nd about how sushi and animation is cool, but why should I have to take my shoes off everywhere? See which one is the most successful?
My Japanese is really good.
This country I so intuitive except when it comes to these pieces of 💩
I asked my wife who is a native speaker of Japanese and even she could not decipher it.
My Japanese is great.
@bull_japanese
This 100%! I came to Japan for what Japan has to offer. I certainly get frustrated at times with things that are different, but I wouldn't want it to change and that change is not my decision anyway
OK so I'm in still in Australia while my family is in Japan because a year's salary here is 5 years salary in Japan. I plan on returning to Japan permanently in 3 to 5 years and not working. I'm genuinely considering opening a school now. 🤔
Saw a few old houses for sale in Wakayama that I like but my Japanese wife™ refuses to live in an old abandoned house if I buy one. How the he'll am I going to use the washing machine? Google translate won't be able to decipher it.
Some debates this week on
#Gaijintwitter
about being rejected from renting an apartment so therefore it's racism. I've also been rejected for several apartments before finding one. I don't think it was racism they just didn't want us. Their apartment their choice.

My phone is spying on me. Told my wife over the phone I had back and leg pain, now getting ads for medicines and creams for muscle pain. Definitely did not type it in anywhere
I am a grumpy shit who yells at everyone all the time. Generally speaking, my time in Japan has been trouble free and I haven't suffered from many problems.
Is Japan perfect? No.
Your approach to any situation has a direct effect on the outcome of that situation 99% of the time
