They were successful during Pinochet's rule and after he was voted out. Since they weren't changed much there's no reason they would only work once he left.

@ebarcuzzi @ATabarrok Almost none of the meat in the store comes from cows in fields. The meat specifically labeled as pasture raised is, and it's more expensive. But in any case, you've got no clue whether people will be able to scale output to the point of it being competitively priced.

To Kirzner, entrepreneurship is the casual mechanism in price equilibration. This is done through alertness, which is essentially their ability to find arbitrage opportunities. He also saw their role as promoting these opportunities to consumers and making them aware.

What's fascinating about Hayek is that while he largely followed Mises in his economics (Hayek Mark I), he never developed/elaborated on the entrepreneurship function: entrepreneurship is to Hayek a responsive function (effect, not cause) much like it is with Kirzner and others.

@cafreiman @KingDavie24 Price controls aren't the solution, but the pharmaceutical industry enjoys massive monopoly rents and also benefits from being paid by third parties. Competition and prices don't even work correctly it's so distorted. There's tit-for-tat pricing instead of them going down.
