Pericardial window and relief of tamponade. A few points: litres can accumulate slowly but 200cc can cause tamponade acutely. A window is a simple operation but potentially very dangerous as you are operating in a hole

As surgeons who see patients at 6week FU, we don’t really have a good sense of how long it takes to recover from a sternotomy. I used to say 3months, now I say 3-6mo. I suspect a survey of patients will reveal that it takes much longer for complete recovery - survey needed?

I measure flow in all my grafts. There is almost no risk to the patient. It only takes a few seconds. When in doubt, I redo an anastomosis - it only takes a few minutes. You should leave the OR knowing that you have done everything in your power to achieve complete revasc
