I got 41 copies of “Malicious Malfunction” instead of 1x of each uncommon in a recent Kamigawa MTGO set redemption. The other sets were all fine. Despite the poetic card name, I doubt it was malicious.

Final Swiss round of US RC. Table 4 is playing Amalia mirror, in game 1. Life totals on both sides are in the 200s, and both have wrathed many times. The player who will deck first forces a draw by giving their Walker indestructible. Going to “game 2” with 18 minutes left.

I have calculated the closed-form for the probability of mulling to Turn 1 Bazaar in Vintage Dredge (not a simulation). To two decimal places, under the London mulligan rule it is 99.64% (play), 99.68% (draw). It was 94.17% (play), 94.61% (draw, Paris), 95.03% (draw, Vancouver).

Metamorphic Alteration will be bugfixed today, and therefore all over leagues. If playing Green, consider cutting your least favorite SB artifact for a Witch's Oven (as a sacrifice outlet). Experimentally, I'm also going to try a maindeck Oven and 2 Wicked Wolf in the flex slots.

I made top 8 of the MTGO Super Qualifier with Mono Green featuring 3 Lovestruck Beasts in the flex slots (along with sb changes to accommodate them in Fleetwheel Cruiser and Shadowspear). LSB is meant for blocking against GR Aggro and White. I'm still unsure how much I like them.

With MonoG on MTGO, my fastest ways to end the combo: First, Stone Brain to see the list, most scoop in response If >2 blockers, plague wind with Transmogrifying Wand, Haywire Mite, and Filigree Sylex Then attack for ~40 over 2 turns, or Lair to fireball (Woodcaller for haste)

Comboing with one copy of Karn/Kiora without Heart of Kiran requires enough mana to activate Chain Veil until Kiora runs out of loyalty [mana = 6 + 4 x (Kiora’s loyalty)]. Sometimes you should -1 Kiora early for no value to decrease loyalty, but be judicious lest you get punished

This might be great in the Karn sideboard of Pioneer Mono Green. There’s already a White variant that I recorded videos with, splashing for sideboard Portable Hole and Glass Casket (with maindeck Tolsimir). Karn having access to a 1 mana terminate seems worth experimenting with.

@jkyu06 @SamuelHBlack The noise is real. Along those same lines, I have a ~2% game win percentage gap between Llanowar Elves and Elvish Mystic in game 1s with Mono G Devotion (62.2% GW for Elvish Mystic in 529 games, and 64.1% GW for Llanowar Elves in 527 games, all out of 808 game 1s total).

I am the master of the Green mirror over @argzax (More seriously, I won the die roll and Zax had forced mulls to 5 both games. For newer Green players out there, the mirror is very low-agency, as is typical of ramp-combo mirrors. That’s simply part of deciding to play the deck)

Here’s data from my 176 matches of Mono Green in ONE Pioneer. Spirits became popular but Polukranos Reborn should improve the matchup (also Greasefang). Rakdos builds shaved their best cards against Green which makes the games easier. Normal small sample size caveats apply.

@PVDDR Any aggro deck I have expertise with many of the decks others listed. However, I distinguish between the difficulty of creative thinking vs pre-computation. Skill at combat takes years to hone. Combo decks with a popular perception of being hard are merely weird but learnable.

My record with Green vs Lotus is 27-4 in matches over the last 7 months. Here is the exact script to follow for easy wins. It’s honestly quite straightforward. Most Green players mess up this sequence, specifically step 3b. Don’t let this be you.

Imagine the following opening: Between turns 1 or 2: play only a single accelerant Turn 3: play a turtle Turn 4: play a turtle. Your two untapped lands are Lair of the Hydra and Nykthos. Lair attacks as an 8/8. Turn 5: Lair attacks as a 12/12, or two Lairs each attack as 7/7s.

One copy likely sees play in Mono Green (over 4th copy of Oath of Nissa): 1) Gives devotion unlike extra Oaths 2) Troll and Polukranos flip right away 3) Backside 4/3 draws a card with Kiora 4) Can find noncreature artifacts (most relevant in postboard games) or enchantments

@BomattCourier As poetic justice, Blood Moon against this “Ponza“ build will stop Life and Limb regardless of timestamps. The counter to this is putting a natural Saproling on the battlefield, which causes a dependency loop and makes the game punt back to timestamps.

While everyone else is racing for the top 8 slots, I'm just happy that I went from Bronze 4 to Mythic in the 7 days before the ranks reset. It took 161 games, which means I beat Karsten's definition of a "seasoned pro" taking in expectation 203 games.
