2017-2020: This RPS article really shows how far
#blocktober
has come. Cheers to everyone posting and sharing their work this year, it’s been even more popular than ever before and we’re still in the first week of October!
I can't believe that's October already over!
#Blocktober
went by so fast, but this year we saw more submissions than ever. Each year seems to be getting bigger, scrolling through latest each day was amazing! I'll keep retweeting submissions as they come and I cant wait for 2021🎃
An incredible year for
#Blocktober
which grew yet again with more submissions than ever. Cheers to everyone who posted their blockouts over the last month, looking forward to playing all these amazing levels!
GDC and other conferences have been postponed or cancelled due to the coronavirus and that sucks for several reasons.
While we’re all washing our hands and staying conscious of our wellbeing, share your favourite

(or other) talks that have helped you become better designers
Hope people are enjoying
#Blocktober
so far! It’s already off to an amazing start. Here’s a description of the event for people just discovering the tag! (Now with ALT description)
#blocktober
has officially become too popular for me to keep up with every tweet every day, but this post from the official Gears of War account has got me fanboying.
Who else has blocked out a Gears map for fun?

Ironically, the best way to show off epic scale is to have the players interact with this 'tiny' ring. Thanks to our amazing artists for transforming my 'diamond in the rough' into stunning art!
Some
#Blocktober
fun! I joined
#LifeAtSHG
in the last year of
#CODWWII
production when most geo was already in place, so this was a rare opportunity where I was able to block out from scratch - this was for the sniper section in the campaign level "Death Factory".
Some absolutely incredible
#blocktober
submissions this year! Gets harder every year to keep up to date every day, but this year there’s been some serious levelling up in sharing. Not just images but gifs, videos and blogs. Big companies and indies getting stuck in too! ❤️

I drew all the maps for MG1 and MG2 myself on graph paper. MGS1 I also included the structure of the base and the entire island on a sheet of paper. But since it was 3D, I designed each area using LEGOs and a 3CCD camera.
Good morning people! Last day today.
I will show some Level Design view from FrostEd today. I'm a Level Designer after all.
The fun thing is, for us, it's
#Blocktober
100% of the time! 😃. Assets always look like blocking stuff.
So here is a part of Tirailleur in the editor.
- Don’t stress about posting something every day, just whatever you want whenever you want
- Add the tag
#Blocktober
- I’ll try and retweet as much as I can on this account, but it gets bigger every year!
- find, follow and support fellow designers!
Also today, sharing a look into the Level Design for Svartalfheim’s Pitmine location in

This month, we’re participating in

- 1 month long
- Making short, fully playable levels
- Shared progress, tips and playtesting on the Discord
- Any editor or engine allowed
- Themes: "Non-Violence" and "Verticality"
Completely forgot about the last one, it's funny that we ended up not doing it in Dishonored but it still somehow made it's way into "DEATHLOOP" with the Focus...
The 9th thing I worked on at Arkane is the one you've probably been waiting for, and I'm here to talk about it just in time for
#Blocktober
; The Clockwork Mansion of Dishonored 2.
For that, we have to start with the prototypes. 1/19
Super excited that its time for
#Blocktober
again! This is a space I made last night in
#DreamsPS4
. Super simple and modular so I could build it quickly from scratch. :)
I'm currently working on a new

#blockout
using
@UnrealEngine
based on the gameplay of Assassin's Creed. This is a fort that secures a harbor, where the player must kill a captain and destroy some supplies.
I'm really excited to see what I'll be able to do in a week🔥

Back in 2015 I wrote a set of tools to record full 3D diffs for all of my edits in Maya. A few years of development, a break after release, tinkering with the data, and now finally a timelapse vid.

This account is manually curated by someone who wouldn’t know how to set up an automated process that uses the Twitter API if their life depended on it.
Feb 2011, I made little truck models taped together out of business cards to help choreograph how the trucks would move and rotate so the player could climb on them.. while hanging out of the back of a plane.
What are your favourite, obscure mods and maps for games?
I’ve always enjoyed obstacle course mods, ever since discovering a small community in UT99 who made them almost exclusively.
So many cool submissions already this year but I have a soft spot for people sharing video or gifs of levels in play. Harder to pull together, particularly for long-finished pre-production work, but seeing the spaces in use shows what level designers are actually doing so well!
