air pollution spike following Sat 8th Oct Heather Burning at Strines & Broomhead with peak of PM2.5 particulates down the road in Hillsborough. Time for a complete ban on burning and a ban on Driven Grouse Shooting.
The Estate gets ยฃ150,000 pa in taxpayer funded subsidies - mainly for conservation.
What we get is Environmental Damage
What we deserve is our money back
Details of funding see:
Last week my constituency was covered in a blanket of smoke, spiking air quality to 4 times the legal limit.
The smoke was caused by heather burning on the moors.
Instead of banning this burning, the Minister told me we should be "grateful" for the air quality we have.
This is what happens on freshly burnt moorland. Poor water quality and increased flood risk.

It's not right. And it's clearly "Unnecessary Suffering" of both the call bird and capture bird - deserves a test case under Animal Welfare Act - so these vile traps are banned

Shameful criminal killing of protected Hen Harrier roosting on/near a grouse shooting moor. With a lot of effort to cover up the crime. National Park Authority continues to deny Grouse Moor owners responsible for this.

Brilliant thriving blanket bog with red stems and tiny leaves of Cranberry growing above Sphagnum at Strines. Pity the estate dumped 1000+ tonnes across this to build a road and PDNPA have failed to implement removal a year after it should have gone.
@MoorlandMonitor
The track leads to a line of shooting butts.
Where the plastic has torn and sunk into the bog it's been replaced by logs which have sunk into the bog as well.
@NaturalEngland
Gamekeepers mowed a fire break round most of the burns. All the vegetation could have been mown.
The burning was a choice not a necessity.

Tully trap Moscar - used to kill Stoats. Wildlife had a couple of months respite after illegal Fenn traps were removed only to be replaced by these evil things. They cost about ยฃ65 and hopefully too expensive to litter the moors with thousands of them like they did before.
