ALL of them rode the elevator with me back to my floor and made sure I got into my room okay. They were guardian angels in glittery shoes and I'll never forget them or that night. Women all have our own traumatic experiences of being harassed, stalked, assaulted, etc.

I'm not defending the actions of the officers. But we've demonized law enforcement to the point that there are far fewer rewards for being a hero, for taking risks. When your culture makes George Floyd the hero, real heroes stand down. Cultural rot has consequences.

Burning Man has always given me the "ick." There's just something about it that makes my skin crawl. I knew one person who went religiously, and she also made my skin crawl- so the whole thing going off the rails in the grossest way possible seems very on-brand.

But we have no way of knowing which ones are and aren't- and saying "well I'm not a bad guy!" isn't good enough. That's why we are constantly on guard and often on edge. Because we just don't know which ones will try to hurt us. So LISTEN to our stories and learn something.
