Itโs becoming clearer and clearer that the Lib Demโs are the tactical vote in
#MidBucks
. The Conservative candidateโs latest leaflet shows heโs actually worried I might win. For a hard working local MP and to oust the Conservatives on July 4th, vote Lib Dem.
Lovely to catch up with the brilliant
@LaylaMoran
in Chesham today. Letโs follow in the footsteps of Chesham & Amersham and Oxford West & Abington, and turn
#MidBucks
golden too.
It could be very close indeed between Lib Dems and Conservatives in
#MidBuckinghamshire
. To topple the Conservatives here, lend me your vote and vote Lib Dem.
My heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported me and lent me their vote yesterday.
We came a clear second, showing that the Liberal Democrats are the only real alternative to the Conservatives in
#MidBuckinghamshire
.
Great day doing knock and drop surveys today. A bit hot, but a lot got done. From the reception on the door step I'd say this is definitely winnable with enough effort. And Bedfordshire is lovely this time of year.
Amazing turnout in Mid-Bedfordshire today. This is absolutely winnable, but we're going to need the help we can get to beat the Tories.
Get down here if you can!! ๐ถ๏ธ
Our parliamentary campaign got off to a good (if slightly chilly) start in Princes Risborough yesterday. Street survey done and quite a few doors knocked on.
Just a quick reminder that
#MidBuckinghamshire
is one of the seats where only a vote for the
@LibDems
can get the Conservatives out. If you want a fair deal for Mid Bucks, please lend me your vote on Thursday.
This was one of our most shared images of the last 4 years so we've updated it for this Thursday's election.
In *most* seats across the country, Labour is the vote to stop the Tories winning, however in these seats a Labour vote won't actually help...

So I thing happened on Friday. Although I obviously knew for a while I continue to find myself somewhat surprised (as well as deeply honoured) to now be the Mayor of Buckingham for the next year. I look forward to meeting many residents of Buckingham over the next year :-).
The team having a well deserved quick lunch break after spending all morning delivering letters to voters in
#Wendover
. Meanwhile other teams were extremely busy all across
#MidBuckinghamshire
, knowing Lib Demโs are best placed to beat the Conservatives here.
Lib Dems are continuing to make gains in
#Buckinghamshire
. Three town council gains in Gerrards Cross last night (yes, that's correct: Gerrards Cross!).
Lib Dems win 3 seats in Gerrards Cross - Buckinghamshire South Liberal Democrats ()
Great turnout in Princes Risborough this morning, despite the downpour. Really good conversations on the doorsteps too. Itโs very clear that voting Lib Dem in
#MidBucks
is the best way to get the Conservatives out.
Beautiful day for a bit of campaigning in
#Wendover
yesterday. The cool air from the stream reminded me why weโre campaigning so hard to save our
#rivers
from the
#SewageScandal
.
I'm very proud to be the LibDem candidate for Mid Buckinghamshire. If you want the Tories out in
@MidBuckinghamshire
vote
@LibDems
. No-one else has a chance to beat the Conservatives here in a General Election. Labour know they can't do it.
Lovely afternoon knocking on doors in
#GreatMissenden
yesterday. Many people there really appreciate the work that
@SarahGreenLD
has done for them as their MP since 2021 and are eager to vote for me as their new Lib Dem MP
This is
@gregsmith_uk
, MP for Buckingham. On Monday, will you do the right thing for our lovely river, the
#GreatOuse
, this time and vote to restrict the amount of
#rawsewage
going into our waterways, Greg? I really hope you will.
The message that winning
#NorthShropshire
would send would be huge. It would be about not tolerating
#Corruption
, about lack of trust in the government but also about hope that we can have better MPs and, eventually, better government. If you can, go and help.
Will winning North Shropshire stop the Conservative majority in the commons? No.
But it will send a message: corruption of our representatives will not be tolerated.
@DemsNorth
@helenhalcrow
Without a two-state solution on 67' borders, we are condemning both Israelis and Palestinians to reliving this nightmare over and over and over again.
If there is a message we are sending to Netanyahu and Hamas today is that we will not accept that.
Shame that
#LibDems
get so little media exposure. We have a great set of policies on the NHS, care, the cost of living crisis, climate action, and nature protection. Ed Davey's light hearted stunts are there to give these policies some coverage.
Not a Libdem supporter. But this week watching Ed'snattempts just to get a hearing in the media has made me kinda fall in love with him. And yet
@BBCPolitics
& other media has given Farage a platform everyday despite holding no public office or a candidate. UK media a disgrace.
Eastleigh will be a two ๐ race at the GE -
@LibDems
or Tory. Labour know they canโt win here and have confirmed itโs not a priority. If Labour voters lend me their support, together we can elect an MP whoโll fight for our NHS, tackle the cost of living & stop the sewage scandal.
New friends made this afternoon. Farmer Daniel (not pictured ๐) told me of how difficult it is to make
#farming
pay right now, and wants many more Lib Dem MPs. Lib Dem pledge of ยฃ1bn annual investment in farming positive step.
#midbuckinghamshire
#ButlersCross
@DavidHenigUK
There seems to be an assumption there that the current UK government knows or cares about ordinary people. And would know what to do for them if it did. I think both these assumptions are wrong.
@Keir_Starmer
In that case, will Labour please commit to
#ProportionalRepresentation
, so that all people in the UK can participate meaningfully in the governance of the country, as per Article 21 of the UN Declaration of Universal Rights. FPTP deprives too many people of a meaningful voice.
These polls need to be taken with considerable caution this far away from a general election. But this is good news for the
@LibDems
! And bad news for the Tories. LibDems will come for them in their heartlands. Including Buckinghamshire.
So, letโs make it happen. If you can get to
#NorthShropshire
and help, please do.
@LibDems
by-election campaigns are great fun too. And if you can donate (however little or much you can spare) thatโll help too. Itโs all to fight for now
By-elections have the power to completely alter the course of history. They have brought down governments and forced embarrassing u-turns.
I promise you this: If the Liberal Democrats win the North Shropshire by-election, you will see panic in the Tory party like never before.
We've backed electoral reform since the beginning, because only a fair electoral system can improve our politics and create a fairer country.
We remain committed to replacing outdated First Past the Post elections with a fairer system where everyone's vote counts equally.๐ณ
Latest NOWCAST projection for
#MidBucks
(aggregated polling from all major recent polls weighted by recency and historic accuracy by Election Maps UK) puts Lib Dems less than 8 points behind Conservatives.

Very proud to be standing as a Lib Dem, when we are the only ones who have an actual plan to start tackling the crisis in care, with all its follow on consequences for the NHS
๐ฉ๐ปโโ๏ธ Free adult personal care based on need, not ability to pay.
๐ซ A new Royal College of Care Workers.
๐ท A new, ยฃ2 higher, Carers' Minimum Wage.

We will stand up for carers and put them at the heart of our plans.
"The truth of the matter is that, many people who deserve asylum and are entitled to asylum at present, if this bill passes, will not get it. And what would be the consequence of that? They will be sent away and many of them will die."

To be precise, there is a shortage of skilled workers in many countries. But they can sort of cope because they havenโt got the additional huge problems caused by Brexit
Britain's wildlife is in trouble. Over half our species are declining and many face extinction. We need
#WilderNationalParks
that can lead the way in tackling the nature and climate crises. Sign

I've written to DEFRA to express my concern at the Environment Agency's decision to stop investigating 'minor' pollution incidents. Our Chalk Streams are rare and already under threat. We should be doing more to protect them, not weakening the little protection already in place.
The elections bill must be opposed. And then we need electoral reform, as soon as possible. This will not happen without a strong Lib Dem representation in the next Westminster Parliament.
๐ณ๏ธ The Elections Bill is antidemocratic and our electoral system is broken and obsolete.
๐ This Saturday I will be speaking at the
@MakeVotesMatter
protest in Parliament Square, starting at 12pm.
๐ช Together let's demand the progressive change that is so desperately needed.
Out early in

this morning. Spreading the word that, to get the Conservatives out in
#MidBucks

Very pleased to add Tower Hamlets to the board at the
#NorthShropshire
Lib Dem by-election HQ.
Amazing to see that members and supporters have travelled from far and wide to help elect
@helenhalcrow
and send Boris and the Conservatives a message.
Just a week and a half to go!
In Buckinghamshire there have been 15 by-elections at parliamentary, council and town council level since 2021. 8 LD wins from Cons, 7 Cons holds and no wins for Labour or Green. LD eight net gains. These are indeed the polls that count.
Westminster by-election coming up in Tiverton & Honiton. This could be another North Shropshire.
I just donated to the
@LibDems
- can you give ยฃ25 (or whatever you can afford!) too? Give here:
Science Minister Michelle Donelan has been able to use ยฃ15,000 of taxpayers' money to pay legal costs and damages relating to libel action against her. This is scandalous. That money could have funded 5,928 free school meals or 357 GP appointments. She should pay it back.
@SiobhanBenita
We don't need a new party. We need a proportional voting system where all votes count and people can vote for the party of their first choice without fearing their vote will be 'lost'.
Delivering leaflets for Cllr Peter Cooper in Wing ward of Bucks Council today. On the logic that youโre not a proper Lib Dem until youโve sustained your first leafletting related injury, I guess I now qualify ๐
Some decent sunshine (and a bit of hail) canvassing in Stone and Berryfields
#MidBuckinghamshire
this weekend. Lots of disaffected former Conservative voters.
Today we delivered over 1,000 leaflets in
#Stokenchurch
and spoke to quite a few lifelong Conservative voters who are seriously considering voting for me as their next Lib Dem MP for
#MidBuckinghamshire
. As a bonus we managed to take in a bit of the village fรชte too.
This thread sets out why something extraordinary might just be possible today: make the
@LibDems
the official opposition. It would put care, the environment, our relations with the EU right up the agenda.
To make this happen, lend me your vote in
#MidBuckinghamshire
Everyone knows Labour are going to win the election, but if youโre feeling like thereโs no point in voting as the outcome is a foregone conclusion, Iโd like to draw your attention to something really radical that is on offer tomorrow: 1/8
I really enjoyed attending the monthly turning of the

That's really good news. The BBC has a tradition of delivering education - that is how the Open University first went on air. For the same reason, that it would reach a lot of people.

Layla Moran speaking from the heart and with great good sense on the tragedy in Gaza, the need for an immediate bilateral
#CeasefireNOW
and a recognition of the Palestinian state.
Liberal Democrats are calling for an immediate bilateral ceasefire to put an end to the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and get the hostages home.
We need to think not only about achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, but also how we stop this from ever happening again. This week,
Situation at Thames Water of grave concern. They have been failing their customers and nature for years and are now failing as a company.
What will the government do in the event of a collapse of Thames Water?
@LibDems
are calling for it to be made a public benefits company.
Thames Water is on the brink.
That is why the
@LibDems
have called for them to be put into special administration and made a public benefit company.
The choice is simple: let this mess continue or put the company under new ownership
Itโs a no-brainer.

Can I also add a plea to everyone who follows this: Twitter campaigns are good for raising awareness but governments are ousted in elections. So, if you can at all, go and help your preferred opposition party campaigning. Not glamorous perhaps but important

This is deeply disappointing. Voting against extending free school meals for children while the government has spent millions on test and trace systems and PPE that don't work is not a good look.

to ensure the Tory candidate doesn't win there

Obviously, nothing saves lives perpetually. We all die at some time. So 'postponing' death is all any health policy and safety measure can ever hope to do. We might as well stop giving people operations for an inflamed appendix as it only postpones death.
Great turnout at
#Brill
hustings last night, and lots of really good questions from the audience. And an opportunity to have a stroll through the beautiful village afterwards. Many thanks to the organisers for putting on the event.
@spaceangel1964
Totally agree. Stockpiling of
#looroll
- probably hysteria; good personal hygiene, frequent
#handwashing
, and catching your cough and sneeze in a clean hankie or your sleeve - sensible precautions and, quite frankly, what we should be doing anyway.
Congratulations to Carol Linton and the South Bucks Lib Dem team. You came so close and if the atrocious weather hadnโt reduced turnout so much youโd probably have won this.
@LaylaMoran
I couldn't agree more. UK universities were among the most successful in Europe in accessing Horizon funding and its absence will leave UK research significantly worse off. The Tory government's hard Brexit is hurting universities (but I'm not sure they care).
@dem_cath
Widespread protest is not useless, of course, particularly if it were to happen on the streets rather than in social media. Might lead to a Conservative leadership contest. But then you'd still have a Conservative prime minister and government.
Last year Greg Smith, MP for Buckingham and now Cons candidate for
#MidBuckinghamshire
, voted for 15 more years of sewage dumping. Now we learn that last year was the worst for sewage dumping. Thames Water and Anglian Water both among the worst offenders. This cannot go on!
I spent a fantastic afternoon at this local organic dairy farm. It was a privilege to learn more about organic, sustainable farming.
But Iโm worried about the pressures on UK farming - climate, prices, and, above all, poor Govt support.๐งต
Iโm so proud that a whopping 5 of the 7 seats in Oxfordshire have returned

354 votes in favour of the
