As a criminal defence lawyer observing US from afar, I am struck by the laissez-faire & forgiving nature of Americans when it comes to criminal behaviour of white people with political & financial power. For a nation so obsessed with crime & punishment. My brain can't cope. 😬

Your twitter feed suggests you are an anti-masker, anti shelter-at-home & pro-move about as freely as you wish in a pandemic person. If so, you are the one risking spread of a deadly microbe. Cooking in your own household bubble harms no one. Also ok to touch your nose at home.

In a nation comfortable with discussing mental health & mental illness, the story would be: a head of state is suffering from mental illness, being deprived of assistance from mental health experts & surrounded by ignorant sycophants who collude in & reinforce his delusions. Sad.

Cos vicarious trauma, moral injury & compassion fatigue are common contributing factors to burnout? Maybe there's less burnout if less emotional self-awareness, less empathy, different moral compass, contempt for altruism & belief in sanctification of violence against opponents?
The child amputees of Gaza will need new prostheses every 6 months and 8-12 more surgeries before they reach adulthood, as their bones grow faster than the tissue and nerves surrounding them. And many of these children will face this torture as orphans with no surviving family.

Yes. And it doesn't take much imagination to envisage steps IDF could take to interrupt its shelling/bombing/live fire in vicinity, clear secure paths from hospitals to closest exits from Gaza, invite foreign journalists to monitor, enable access of ambulances & medical supplies.

IMO this isn't inevitable if we make a conscious, informed decision to treat Delta like we treated smallpox, measles & polio in past. 95% vaccination + airborne transmission NPIs. I don't know why we're letting NSW Govt deprive us of democratic input on this fundamental decision.

Boat is shared enclosed space. Water contains disease pathogen. Drilling hole is infected unmasked person bringing pathogen into shared space. Sabotaging life jackets is removing widespread masks. Tying hands is ordering HCWs to remove N95s. Political debate employs metaphor.

NSW is governed by politicians accustomed to bullying, corruption & fawning media coverage. None of those are of any use in addressing the traumatic burden they are imposing on HCWs. I can't imagine Berejiklian or Hazzard being interested in any of this:
COVID and healthcare workers:
Mainly UK centric but some parts will be relevant to HCWs from other countries, as well as to teachers and other frontline workers.

A small number of extremely wealthy white men spent a lot of money over past 50 years to scaffold this reality. They know real democracy diminishes their wealth & power. Most of us fall into line very comfortably with what we perceive to be status quo, even a manufactured one.
The "our" in this tweet might accurately describe the mindset of most MSM journalists. It doesn't describe me, tens of 1000s of Australians bereaved from Covid deaths, over 2 million Brits & tens of millions of Americans with long Covid (so far) or anyone in touch with reality.

👍 Equivalent to current strategy in NSW Australia. Great work by contact tracers. So far keeping lid on daily cases but easier to achieve with improved public health messaging on how this virus transmits. We have 20-somethings visiting 7 hospitality venues over 3 days. 🙄
German advisor Drosten says to avoid 2nd wave (& 2nd nat’l lockdown): go after clusters using test/trace, tackle ‘super-spreading’ events, put everyone who is exposed to virus straight into quarantine & test at day 5. Investigate each case to find out where infection happened.

Most Australians put their children ahead of corporate profits. I'll be surprised if ordinary Australians are fans of enabling Delta to spread after learning what it can do to children:
"The Delta variant is different," says Dr. Rick Barr of the Arkansas Children's Health System.
