NEW: Lee County Sheriff tells
@GMA
the death toll there is in the hundreds.
Horrendous news likely going to continue coming out of Florida as the sun rises.
I’m coming home, West Michigan.
It is a dream come true to share that I will be the weekend evening meteorologist at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids.
My love for West Michigan runs deep, and my appreciation for the meteorologists at Storm Team 8 is extraordinary.
My parents have a tree in their front yard that sheds all its leaves in one day. My sister will send me a picture every time it happens.
Today was that day. 🤣
On a serious note, I want to thank each and every person who has followed along with my swarm of updates & predictions over the past week. I am incredibly blessed & humbled to have tremendous support and look forward to making West Michigan predictions for years to come.
Well that was an absolute blast. Cannot thank everyone at
@WOODTV
enough for providing me with the opportunity. Giving the forecast for West Michigan was a true full-circle moment for me, and I couldn’t have done it without all of you supporting me! Merry Christmas!
I am so blessed to share that I will be the morning meteorologist at WLNS-TV in Lansing, Michigan upon graduating in May! I interned there as a freshman, and to see it come full circle is incredibly gratifying.
After the blizzard this weekend, Grand Rapids is now the second snowiest city with more than 100,000 people!
We won't be adding onto our total much for at least the next week, with warmer temperatures and rain on the way.
Unfortunately, this tweet brought out some ✨interesting✨ theories.
No, this is not fog mistaken as wildfire smoke.
No, to my knowledge, the Canadians are not purposefully sending down harmful chemicals.
No, I don’t have an agenda relating to wildfire smoke.
Due to a Winter Storm Warning and significant snowfall, I am predicting a CLOSING for Hudsonville, Jenison, Grandville, & essentially every school in West Michigan
Sorry to be a little extra with the graphic, but I have some festive news to share.
I have been asked to be the on-air meteorologist for WOOD-TV's Christmas Day broadcasts as a fill-in. I feel so blessed to have incredible support from everyone at the station.
Michigan restaurants have been closed for in-person dining for 156 of the past 321 days.
They re-open today.
You can probably imagine how much they’d appreciate your support.
I’m not sure I have ever seen people so upset that West Michigan narrowly avoided a devastating winter storm... I cannot commend the folks at the National Weather Service and television enough for providing what was absolutely the best forecast possible!
LANSING-AREA SCHOOL CLOSINGS: Dansville, East Lansing, Haslett, Holt, Okemos, and Waverly schools in Ingham county are all closed Tuesday as the search continues for the MSU shooting suspect
There is a massive fire at a Walmart distribution center in Plainfield, Indiana just outside Indianapolis. The smoke is being picked up by radar. Goodness…
BREAKING: Governor Gretchen Whitmer has ordered the closure of all schools in the State of Michigan beginning Monday, March 16 and continuing through April 6
Well, I am now officially a meteorologist! We were blessed to have gotten an in-person graduation at Valparaiso University on Sunday. I cannot thank my family & friends for getting me through these past four years. Now it's onto the next chapter of my life in Lansing, Michigan!
Today marked my 175th school closing prediction since I began making maps in 2015 (I started predictions in 2013).
I am so thankful for the following and support you all have blessed me with. Here's to many more!
I have some personal news to share.
Friday will be my final day at WLNS. The past eighteen months have been tremendous, and I am so thankful to everyone who helped play a part.
I’ll share what’s next for me later this week. I’m so incredibly excited for what’s to come. (:
The word is out: I genuinely couldn't be more excited to be apart of a new team on the seven, our 7pm newscast, that will see
@brittflowerstv
at the helm. She's local, has ample experience and is immensely talented.
Here's to a new chapter! Thanks for following along.
Today, I took the final exam of my meteorology undergraduate collegiate career. I have saved every paper I’ve received / note I’ve taken from the met program, and now have it compiled in a 4-volume collection…
Did you know... the kids in “The Polar Express” are from Grand Rapids, Michigan! Furthermore, the Herpolshimer’s toy store was an actual place in downtown Grand Rapids... this is all because the author of the book was from Grand Rapids. Merry Christmas, everyone!
It’s truly emotional to see the amount of people who are downtown right now cleaning up after rioters damaged and vandalized buildings last night. The night began peaceful, and peace has returned this afternoon with community members coming together to help.
@WOODTV
Due to a Winter Storm Warning, today's snowfall, forecasted significant lake effect, and dropping temperatures tomorrow, I am predicting a closing for most schools in West Michigan tomorrow
These fear-mongering news accounts have WAY too large a platform.
Their claim that all residents in Spring Lake Township were asked to evacuate "due to a high potential for a large and massive explosion" is a straight-up lie.
Disappointing to see this "reporting" go unchecked.

for allowing us to say hey at a bar in downtown St. Louis on Saturday. Hosts of the best podcast in NASCAR “Door Bumper Clear”

, it meant a lot that they took the time!
There's no question the Blizzard of 1978 was a far more wide-reaching and impactful storm. However, Grand Rapids saw more snowfall from this blizzard than in '78!
Your mind hasn't been deceiving you this winter... over 80% of our snow has fallen on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. Less than 20% has fallen from Sunday through Wednesday.
When the Daytona 500 was postponed to Monday, I began browsing flights out of GR for fun.
Before long, my friend Andrew and I made a 23-hour trip to Daytona Beach, Florida for the race. Truly a bucket list item and an exceptional race to watch. 🏁
Due to forecasted significant freezing rain overnight, I am predicting a CLOSING for Hudsonville, Jenison, Grandville, & Byron Center, among other schools. There is "bust" potential in this forecast so check closings in the morning!
I like to hold myself accountable for the accuracy of my predictions. Here's the percentage of districts that have closed after I've put them in each school closing risk, compared to what I'd like them to be.
Because of heavy snowfall overnight and gusty winds, I am predicting a CLOSING for Hudsonville, Jenison, & Grandville tomorrow, and I believe there will be many more that close as well. FULL RUNDOWN:
I have a bit of exciting news to share!
I will be filling in on WOOD-TV this weekend for the morning shows both Saturday and Sunday from 5:00-8:00am.
I’m still at WLNS, so this is only for this weekend. Thankful to both stations for making this happen!
🚨SCHOOL CLOSING PREDICTION ANNOUNCEMENT🚨
I could not be more excited to share that predictions are coming back again for BOTH
@WLNS
and
@WOODTV
this winter. We'll be covering more schools than ever for my ninth season of predictions.
THANK YOU, as always, for your support!
Here are my predictions for West Michigan colleges & universities. This is my first time making this so it may not be terribly accurate. Colleges are much tougher than K-12 schools. Still, expect a very decent chance at closures
The Blizzard of 2022 is finally coming to an end. What a long, cold, snowy few days!
Thank you all for following along, as always. I’ll have more post-blizzard content over the next few days!
I make school closing predictions by evaluating the conditions and seeing how they'll progress into the morning and beyond.
Based on current road conditions, I'd probably predict what I did again. Just misjudged how things would go. I am so appreciative of your support.
Really appreciative of the opportunity to speak to GR-area superintendents. I did my best to convey the forecast, including uncertainties regarding timing.
I believe schools made the right call today by keeping buses off the road this PM and giving folks time to prepare today!
Shout out to
@wxblakeharms
from
@WOODTV
. He took time on a busy day yesterday to talk with area superintendents about what today’s storm would bring and when — helping us make well-informed decisions for the safety of our community. Thank you for your leadership, Blake!

How’s this for a sweet piece of history... I found the Grand Rapids Press from the Blizzard of 1978 in my grandparent’s basement. 43 years ago this February!
