Meteorologist at WOOD TV8 Grand Rapids, Michigan. I've enjoyed the challenges of forecasting West Michigan's ever changing weather for over a quarter century.
The 8" in Gr. Rapids yesterday broke a record that stood for nearly 70 years!
It was also the last time we recorded 8" in a calendar day since Dec. 2016.
It also pushed GRR season snowfall to >avg for 1st time in two seasons.

Walking my dog this morning we noticed ducklings had fallen into sewer grate. Mom would not leave the corner. Quick call to neighbors (former GR Township FD volunteers) and the rescue commenced.
Good news mom & ducklings have been reunited.
During the past decade a white Christmas has been less than a 50/50 proposition. 3 o f the past 4 have been green. It appears exceedingly likely this year's will be white.

Although warm today look at what happened last year. We were in an epic lake effect snow event.
Next week, it appears the lake effect snow machine could get kick started and possibly lead to a white Thanksgiving. Stay tuned.

At 34.1 degrees we are currently tied w/ 1998 for 2nd warmest February. (warmest 34.7 in 2017)
We've never achieved 70 degree reading in Gr. Rapids in February. There's a chance we can do it Tuesday. It appears we certainly will tie the record high of 67 degrees.
#wmiwx

Not just a record warm day for today's date but if we achieve 70 degrees it will be the warmest meteorological winter day for Grand Rapids.
Enjoy, as winter returns tomorrow. Apparent temperatures Wed. aftn will feel 60 degrees colder!

They are making snow fast and furious so more runs can open this weekend including the tubing hill.
There will be a threat for storms through tonight. The severe threat will be mainly north of I-96 during the day & will shift south this evening/night. Straight line wind is the main threat but an isolated tornado or two is possible along w/ potential of heavy rain.

December 2023 will likely end up the second warmest & third least snowiest on record for Gr. Rapids.

The last time we enjoyed consecutive days w/ temps of 70 degrees or warmer was nearly 6 months ago. The dry pattern is also impressive and will likely go 9 days. That hasn't happened since late July, early August of the previous summer.

Monthly rainfall deficit = 2" for areas from Grand Rapids to the north. As you can see there's no longer a deficit south with last night's storms. In fact, many locations near I-94 in a flood advisory. More storms are possible this week in this sticky airmass.
#wmiwx

Rain deficit past month ranges between 1.5 to 2.5". A soaking, widespread rain appears possible late Saturday and Saturday night, especially areas north of I-94 (at this point). Could be accompanied w/ severe wx.

What a 24 hour stretch of wx. We go from all time record warmth w/ earliest 70 in GR to svr storms & today apparent temps 50-60 degrees colder w/ snow. This will rank as the sharpest 24 hr temp change since this has been tracked since 1963.

Gorgeous spring wx today but it will be a stormy Tuesday.
April 2024 ranked 2nd w/ most tornadoes. May will pick up where April left off. A major outbreak is likely later today. That same system will give MI possible svr storms Tuesday.

MI avoided the svr wx this go around but some locals got inundated w/ heavy rain. Bridgman, just south of Benton Harbor received an absurd 7.44" of rain in 2hrs 24minutes!
