just landed back in nashville after a weekend in DC where they have trains running to/from the airport every 7.5 minutes
i live 6.7 miles from the nashville airport and it would take me 2 hours and 15 minutes to get home by transit
i could walk home faster
this photo tells such an incredible story: even the white families who fled our public schools to racially isolated private schools can’t escape the violence in our society. and when that violence did reach them, they relied on buses from the public schools they fled from

Yo Nashville. Increasing Bike lanes in town is a stupididea ... Clearly these idea folks don't drive in these areas. Dim-wits!
Bart Durham, the well-known Nashville personal injury attorney, died today. He was 89. His son Blair said in a statement that "His legacy will endure in the lives he influenced and the principles he instilled in our family and firm."
we had a fire drill at my school today
our procedure for a fire drill is someone runs down the hallway knocking on doors telling us it’s a fire drill because our fire alarm hasn’t worked all year and still doesn’t
but the titans ~need~ this LED signage for safety reasons lol
I will reserve judgement until I learn more but my first thought is that anything inherently needed for safety (like sprinkler systems) - ok, let's look at it.
$100K on LED signage that we don't know if we'll need at the new stadium? 😬😳 I'm having a hard time justifying that.
coming soon: a podcast series where nicole and i ride
@WeGoTransit
with every candidate for metro council and talk about the transportation and housing issues facing nashvillians
On my very first bus ride, I was accompanied by my transit spirit guide
@woo_ten
, State Rep.
@JRClemmons
, WeGo CEO Steve Bland, and Councilmember
@CashforCouncil
.
Thank you,
@woo_ten
, for holding my hand and not making me feel like an idiot when I couldn’t figure out the app ♥️
embarrassing that this
@USATODAY
“journalist™” is trolling people on twitter when her story still says that paid ticketed events at Nissan Stadium like CMA Fest and Music City Bowl are “free community events”
Hey y'all! I love a spreadsheet, so I made one to keep track of who is running for Metro Council in 2023. If you see or hear an announcement, let me know so I can add it!
many people in antioch/cane ridge trying to find hotel rooms to get out of the cold as we enter hour 8 with no power
as the mayor promised: the new stadium will be paid for by tourists, the unhoused, and those lower on the political hierarchy whose power is out in freezing temps
more insanity from
@JimShulman3
if it’s a personal attack to list the campaign contributions titans lobbyists have made to council members like
@NancyVanReece
@NVR4District8
, perhaps nancy and her friends shouldn’t have taken the money in the first place!
Y'all big news!!
If you're a
@walkbikenash
member ($4/month or higher) you can now get a 12-month unlimited-use
@wegotransit
QuickTicket for $25.
If you ride the bus even once a month, that's a big savings!
@RebekahTDOT
lmfao a striped empty center lane? but not enough space to expand sidewalks or provide bike/scooter access??
car volume has decreased yr/yr for 5+ years and y’all give more space to protect cars from other cars than to protect people
this is just a big🖕to anyone not in a car
fare free transit today and buses have never been so on time!
cruising down the street, stop no longer than it takes people to step on board, no worry about cards or tickets or error messages
51 people aboard my 55 bus today, time to improve frequency on saturdays again
i want to meet whoever’s job it is to go around the county and put a piece of tape that says “MAYOR: FREDDIE O’CONNELL” over all the project signs that say cooper lol
well thanks to
@AllenBurkley
's budget amendment to remove $1 million from
@WeGoTransit
's budget, the last bus leaves central at 12:15 a.m. instead of 1:15 a.m.
so i'm gonna be heading out soon unless someone wants to volunteer to give me a ride home
OK! Here is my thread where I map every council member's pathway to get to tomorrow's
#MetroCouncil
meeting using transit.
Big thanks to
@nkornutick
for helping piece this together!
All CMs have been invited to ride
@WeGoTransit
to Tuesday’s council meeting. It is important that in a growing, changing city we support and fund a system now and in the future that can meet all our citizens’ needs.
#RollWithWeGo
yup,
@Campbell4TN
went from 2nd on my mayoral ranking to 6th by opposing appropriate density on a high frequency transit corridor because her rich friends don’t want change
ok so
@WeGoTransit
into downtown for the taylor concert was PERFECTLY on time and dropped us two blocks from the pedestrian bridge
hope i’m not jinxing the trip home
today I learned TobyMac, the christian artist I grew up jamming to, is trying to build an amazing (for franklin) dense mixed-use urban community literally in his backyard, across the street from the factory.

it’s weird because i live in a sixplex in a neighborhood with majority detached single family homes and the world hasn’t ended, but it did make the home affordable to me on a teacher’s salary
funny how basically everyday we shut down our interstates because car drivers are always crashing into each other
but heaven forbid a greenway may flood 1x or 2x a year and people will have to use the new multi use trail on the road the developer is raising above the flood plain
well now that she’s elected, it’s time to start the most important campaign … let’s get
@quinevanssegall
on the Traffic and Parking Commission!
election held Oct. 3, only council members can vote
These light/bench combos are a great temporary fix for lower ridership stops before a shelter with true lighting is developed.
Push button light for the safety of visibility and to make sure the bus doesn’t pass me by.
We are four hours into this meeting, and all we’ve done is heard from residents of nashville speaking about how housing in this city is unaffordable, while also speaking in opposition to building more housing, the only possible solution to the problem presented.
these kids did everything we ask: push the beg button, wait for the walk sign, walk in the crosswalk
but they still got hit by a driver who police say "showed no indication of impairment" despite hitting two kids in a crosswalk in broad daylight
tonight the vice mayor
@JimShulman3
cut me off and had me escorted out of the council chambers for speaking in support of things that i like about zoning bills on public hearing tonight, i was prepared to speak about every single zoning bill tonight
This is a great breakdown of the impending stadium negotiations.
Don’t let
@brettawithers
deceive you — we are NOT obligated to build a new Titans stadium. Other NFL teams have privately finance billion-dollar stadium projects and the Titans can too.
one of these folks is specialized at responding to crashes, immediately hopped out of his vehicle and began sweeping glass and debris out of the roadway
the other is a cop
seems like if we just gave the specialist the ability to file a crash report, we’d need a lot fewer cops
Nashville International Airport's new satellite concourse (8 gates known as C4-C11) is now open serving mostly Spirit and Allegiant Airlines. Entry via 9 new shuttle busses running regularly from Concourse C-13. There are 4 eateries and 3 retailers for passengers.
why is the US so good at trains in airport but no anywhere else?
i’m in orlando and was like “oh no! the little train for baggage claim is leaving” and then there was another one 60 seconds later
platform screen doors, completely autonomous, less than 60 second headways
hey
@startleseasily
they're finally doing it!!!
@MNNGov
live streamed on YouTube.
via youtube, you can know watch council committee meetings immediately after they happen, no waiting 24 hours for the video to be uploaded. and you can pause, rewind, etc the live stream as well!
Huge bummer to hear
@jess_dauphin
CEO of the
@TAllianceMidTN
speak in favor of the stadium project as a catalyst for transit in Nashville. In reality, this project will encumber potential transit funding sources, and doesn’t include any transit improvements within the plan
Jessica Dauphin is here with her child. She says the deal offers a potential gain for transit. (Note: the plan actually ties up would could have been an option for future transit funding.) "This plan could kickstart new, transformative infrastructure for transit."
I just can’t overlook the fact that NES is telling us to turn our thermostats as low as we can to manage power supply and instituting rolling blackouts across the region, but
@BurkeNihill
and
@Titans
are going full steam ahead with a silly football game. Great community partners!
Turn your thermostat down as low as you can. Any reduction in temperature will help.
Temporarily discontinue the use of large appliances such washer/dryers and washing machines. 4/4
to the vice mayor
@JimShulman3
:
i know you have rules, i read them, and i followed them tonight, you did not.
you chose to violate your own rules, just like you do when you allow hybrid voice votes on major controversial legislation with significant dissenting votes.
you can tell some people at the Belle Meade Plaza aren’t really from nashville when they talk about “St. Thomas West” as opposed to “St. Thomas Midtown”
real nashvillians know there’s only one St. Thomas — the other is called Baptist and it’s where I was BORN!
thought this Open Streets bag would be an appropriate one to carry my stuff on the way to the first
@NashvilleDOT
Vision Zero Task Force meeting
thankful for
@WeGoTransit
bus shelters to keep me out of the yucky weather
never ceases to amaze me that we detour our $2 bus routes away from the stadium and let private companies charge $15 to shuttle fans from the state lots to the stadium
@DianaAl57146288
and
@NashvilleDOT
continue to show they are deeply unserious about transportation in nashville
submitted a hub nashville ticket for these illegally parked vehicles asking
@NashvilleDOT
to have them ticketed and towed immediately for obstructing the right of way.
@SeanForFive
unfortunately that will cost you $200k and i will simply provide you with a report about a million dollar limousine that is actually my preferred way of getting home, but i can’t share too many details with you because it is proprietary
trying out the WeGo Route 84 Murfreesboro Express
incredibly nice, clean, and comfortable coach bus
4 other passengers on board this 1:40 pm departure from downtown
(1) Mayor O'Connell "announced the temporary hiring of Vanderbilt's Michael Briggs as director of transportation planning in the lead-up to a potential referendum"
Vandy really is the leader locally in incentivizing non-SOV commuting to their employees.
its the “don’t tread on me” license plate with the flat tire because he doesn’t know how to drive his car
looks like he’s doing a good enough job treading on himself lol
On the road back to Nashville from Memphis.
The people of District 52 and 86 have representation again, but make no mistake—democracy is still in crisis in Tennessee.
Welcome home, brother. The Tennessee Three will be back in the PEOPLE’S HOUSE!
@Justinjpearson
@VoteGloriaJ
💪🏾
the best thing about the bike is if you have a few too many $10 pitchers on monday at dicey’s you can just toss it on the front of the bus and get a free safe ride home and not have to worry about retrieving a vehicle the next morning
this man who drives through the intersection 10x a day is very concerned about traffic
but it is certainly everyone else’s cars that are the problem, not his car??
Dan Cook lives 1/2 mile from the site. He drives through this intersection 10X per day.
"You heard from the paid consultants and non-residents to start out with ... we all will suffer from the loss of retail we currently enjoy today," he says. The plans are "90% residential."
If anyone is wondering what’s wrong with government in the USA, it’s that an executive of a private company can stand in front of them and say “confidential” to a couple questions and there’s no push back and then they vote to give them $3.4 billion in taxpayer money.
congrats to Meshach Adams of
@walkbikenash
for his reappointment to the traffic and parking commission!
we need more voices like his on all of our public boards and commissions
burkley winning the absentee ballot vote, though
guess those "owner-occupied" airbnb owners who registered to vote in nashville as their sole proof of residency really turned out (via mail)
i asked my own state house rep
@JRClemmons
if i could ride the bus with him to the state house one day next week while i’m on spring break
he lives a 7-minute walk (0.4 miles) from one transit line and a 12-minute walk (0.6 miles) from another, but drives into downtown everyday
it’s hard to believe elected officials who virtue signal about transit but drive to the state house every day would suddenly step foot on a transit vehicle because it’s a train instead of a bus, especially when that train is even slower than the bus is!
well it lasted about 18 months before it got destroyed by a car again
took 5 months to replace the shelter last time, so we’ll see if
@WeGoTransit
improved their process or if they’ll make riders wait in the sun with no shade or seat for the five hottest months of the year
five months later, they finally replaced the disappeared shelter from the Zelida Inbound bus stop (later reports from other riders was that a car crashed into it, so they removed the old one until they could replace it)
guess it was too much to also replace the old bus stop sign
you could put so many homes on this car storage lot by velvet taco
walkable to several grocery stores, so many restaurants, schools, library, parks
and get downtown in 10 minutes on a high frequency transit line
it’s true! you can still get home on the bus even after a council meeting that goes past midnight
didn’t even need to ask joy for a lift home this time!
