Pre-surgery MRI time! These are big tubes you go inside and they’re loud and make cheesy 1980’s sci-fi noises. They’re oddly restful - no big deal. Let’s go!

Ok beautiful people time for an update! 11 days of chemo and radiation done down here at Duke, 22 to go. My chemo (low dose pill) is easy, radiation is quick and painless. Working my arse off all day every day exercising, walking, typing, etc.

Today I turn 40. Not how I pictured it: in the middle of chemo and radiation for a cancer that can’t be cured, working my ass off to keep walking, and away from my family. It sucks. On the bright side, 2 friends are visiting me in Durham and we’re making pizza tonight

Last weekend, I took my one break from 6.5 weeks of chemo and radiation to go home and see Leanna and Beckett. On Sunday, I picked Beckett up and held him in my arms for the first time since February. That’s what a little boy deserves from his dad and it makes all the work worth

First full day back home! Got to wake up my boy, then it was straight to work! Infrared sauna and my first true cold plunge after weeks of practicing in the shower (I haven’t felt warm water in a LONG time 😆). Cold plunged at 45F/7C for 1:30, then 3:00). Cold but to stay alive

I’ll be around for a long time despite my diagnosis. To that end, I’ve been doing the Wim Hof cold showers and breathing exercises. If you’ll allow a little bragging, I just held my breath 4 minutes and 11 seconds. Now breakfast then back to work 💪♥️

25 minutes away from joining the chemo club. Many brave people precede me - my mom included - and mine is just a pill and low dose. This wasn’t on my 2024 bingo card, but when life throws cancer at you - after some deserved cursing at the world or God - gotta get up & go to work

Ok! We're past due for an update! Nobody likes when the brain cancer guy seems to disappear for a bit, but I've been busy! First: I'm feeling good. I've been home for 6 weeks continuous, private gym trainer 3 days a week and lots of walking.

My cancer is “unmethylated”. Practically speaking this means: chemo resistant. Now that I’ve completed radiation, what’s the next “standard” treatment? You guessed it: chemo. In other words, I’ve already reached the end of normal treatment. (1/4)

I traveled to Duke for chemo and radiation on May 6th. 50 days later, I’m flying home to be with my son. So many wonderful friends showed up to be with me at Duke (so mom could be home).

Early cache expiration Instead of letting a cached item expire (and a user experiencing a very slow request when it recalculates), let the cache system dispatch a message to do it *before*. We do this to refresh vimeo metadata so you don't have to wait.

Warmest water I’ve felt in a month! Physical therapy in the pool this morning. That’s the face of a (bald) guy who is willing his left quad to stop being a hero and *constantly* flex (knee can’t bend with quad engaged… which I learned is a useful thing to be to do in the water!)
