Emerging Leader 2025. Personal opinion on quasi-professional topics.
My parents are visiting and staying with us here in MN for couple weeks. While I am in the office during weekdays, I just left them with two Go-To Cards, and they've been going to *lots of* places even with *this* weather only by walking and transit.🧵
Their observations have been really "refreshing" in a way that I haven't even imagined--which shows that we have a lot more work to do to make our system more accessible and useful, and highlights a need to bring more diverse voices in growing our system.
BBQ Chicken—a well-known fried chicken chain from Korea just opened up a location in Uptown. It’s almost surreal to see them here in MN. I used to get their chicken all the time during my high school years. Highly recommend!
It's official. On March 14, I'm joining

as their BRT Project Manager. After 5yrs as a consultant, I've worked on several BRT projects throughout the country, and now I am very excited to bring it all home.
Got my hands on the limited edition PRIDE Go-To Card today! Will be available for purchase at Metro Transit stores in downtown Mpls and St. Paul in June.
7th St Bus Lane is a proven success, and C Line (and soon D Line) BRT riders are already reaping the benefit from it. Drivers already know NOT to drive on the red-painted lane since it’s fully dedicated for buses 24/7.
MSP air-to-rail protip: landed at A/B or G gates? Exit the airport using the Skyway Checkpoint on the bridge and take the elevator down straight to the LRT station. (You can skip the airport tram this way too!) It took me 3 mins from Gate G17 to the rail platform today!
Every single time I visit Fat Lorenzo's, I can't help but wonder how this area (Cedar & 57th-ish) would feel as a n'hood node similar to Cedar & Minnehaha Pkwy. So I whipped up a fantasy map scaling down freeway infrastructure to reconnect the n'hood.
Happy Birthday, Green Line!🎂METRO Green Line LRT (formerly known as "Central Corridor" during development) opened 8 years ago, on Saturday, June 14, 2014.

1. Branches make absolutely no sense to them. For example, even with smartphones in their hands, they took 4P instead of 4L to get to Lyndale/American Blvd (REI is there?), and got stranded in Southtown. They luckily found bus back home, but they wasted time instead of shopping.
3. They're may be *too* used to high-frequency service, but, yesterday, they waited for Rt 46 for 30+mins at 46th St Station. They told me they just took the light rail at MOA, just thinking "when I get there, there will be a bus." Not used to checking schedules before a trip.
2. Our signages are still hard to understand and lackluster in providing necessary information for new riders. They waited for a bus near Gateway TC but they were never sure if that was the right place to wait. (It was not.) They opted to just walk to light rail, instead.
They're born and raised in Seoul, riding subway and bus all over the places. But with their limited ability in English and very basic understanding of Twin Cities geography, our transit system is still mostly inaccessible to them.
Number of transit agencies in the US with trolleybuses is now down to four. I’m concerned about other agencies justifying not investing in trolleybus as a serious option, quoting this MBTA withdrawal as a precedent. The peril of relying solely on peer studies…right here.
Years of groundwork by advocates, staff, and policymakers, culminated in this very moment. And it all happened so fast that almost does not feel real. A great day for Minnesota.

We’re rolling out these simplified strip maps to aid customers navigating on the C and D Lines, and to add more legibility to the growing network of our METRO system.
5pm rush traffic on Lyndale Ave post-“4-to-3” conversion. I think it flows better now that traffic cones are gone? Rt 4 bus I’m on right now is about a minute ahead of schedule.
Cold evening for the soccer match, but our riders were treated with these extra A Line BRT buses waiting right outside the stadium. Great Day in Transit!

If this is motivating you to visit Winnipeg; the *Winnipeger* train used to run daily between MSP and Winnipeg until its closure in 1967. Leaving Union Depot at 8P and arrives in Winnipeg at 9:20A the day after. There is currently no active plan to restore this service.
Good morning, Twin Cities. Come say hi 👋 at our *big* hiring event today at the brand new North Loop Garage, 9a to 12p. Bring your license and test drive a real bus! There will be coloring tables and yard games for families too.
Checking out Portland’s rapid bus/arterial BRT, FX-2 Division. This was one of my first projects I worked on as a junior transit planner back when I was in consulting. It’s really exciting to see your own work coming to fruition in person.

Holy shit the comments on the original thread with people (i) claiming that's God's work and (ii) blaming pedestrians for being careless by pushing strollers in traffic.
The METRO D Line and METRO Orange Line each saw their highest monthly ridership in May, pushing BRT ridership 25% ahead of this time last year. Systemwide, ridership is up 11%. Learn more:

to downtown. Left home at 8:14a, and I was in downtown by 8:25a. Great multimodal morning to start the day! 🛴🚌
My first impression focusing on MN: There's no way Target Field Stn can handle all these trips w/o serious modifications. Especially if some trips were to terminate and turnaround at TFS. How about crew layover? baggage handling? Lots of (exciting) work needed.
The FRA/Amtrak Long-Distance crayon is exciting; service to all these places is needed. Anything beyond 500 miles is concerning, but even playing within the PRRIA minimum 750 miles, most routes are way too long. I'll look at each route in optimal segments below...
