A daily source of frustration: drivers continuing to force a left turn after their protected left phase ends.
Earlier this week I was still waiting for a gap when I saw my light go yellow
Mayor Wu is overseeing a commercial decline unlike any the city has seen in recent memory, with over a billion dollar hole in the budget due to declining tax revenues. And bike lanes don’t generate revenue.
Looking to ID: MV Vandalism

Thought I’d share a round trip bike route from Alewife that uses a number of Boston area bike paths, including:
- Minuteman Bikeway
- Reformatory Branch Trail
- Mass Central Bike Trail
- Charles River Greenway
- Watertown-Cambridge Greenway
29.6 miles on trail, 7.7 on road

📢To address local traffic concerns, we're adding 12 car 🚗 lanes to Storrow Drive, while maintaining the bike 🚲 path.
We'll continue to work with the community on the Esplanade Improvement Project 🌳– which is intended to improve access for ALL users.
I finally got my friend to listen to
@TheWarOnCars
. He listened to 8 episodes straight and keeps texting me crazy things like “we should ban SUVs” and “abolish cars”
He’s actually inspired me to go back and listen to the year and half of episodes I missed
I've been working on biking to every town in Massachusetts only using bike + public transit
I've visited 34 new towns in 2024 (dark blue), bringing the total count to 157 since sept 2022 (lighter blue)
Thinking about venturing west some time soon
Without placing blame, let’s acknowledge the failure of the Boylston Street plan. Now is an opportunity to come together as neighbors, business owners, cyclists and pedestrians to provide residents with a plan that works. It’s important we listen closely to residents!

Right now, in a gymnasium in Bedford, MA, after 4+ hours of waiting, 1,187 residents (of 13,320) are finally voting whether to pave a 1.7 mile dirt path (paid for by the state)
I can't believe how contentious this is
MassDot recommended an underpass for this road, citing multiple occasions where drivers struck people crossing the road
The residents of Bedford voted against it.
This is why street safety should never be left to a popular vote
We're deeply saddened to hear about the fatal crash in Bedford this past weekend. A 53-year-old woman was walking her bicycle across Concord Road at the Reformatory Branch Trail crosswalk when she was struck and killed by a distracted driver.
Spoke with Ed Flynn yesterday, asking him to support pedestrian refuge islands…
He told me his district has the most bike lanes in the city
me: “Maybe, but you’ve opposed them all”
ed: “No I don’t. You’re listening to social media”
me: “Yeah, *your* social media accounts”
BREAKING: MBTA will amend plans to again include a pedestrian bridge as part of the Draw One (North Station) bridge replacement!!!
I found out via this response from
@RonDurk
’s office:
@EdforBoston
@BOSTON_EMS
@BostonBTD
Unlike you, Boston EMS acknowledges that bikes ones improve safety and can make it easier for emergency vehicles to respond
There’s clearly someone you want to blame? How about the drivers who are doing little do get out of the way
Republican Jeff Semon says the public flogging of Milton over its noncompliance with the state’s MBTA Communities law is unnecessary. He says the housing supply should grow organically.
Driving is a privilege. Biking is a right.
Read the drivers manual and educated yourself on the topic instead of spreading hateful misinformation on the internet:
Boston streets and sidewalks can no longer be the Wild West. Pedestrian safety must be a top priority! We need enforcement from
@bostonpolice
on speeding and reckless driving. Every person operating a car, bike, moped, scooter (etc) must be licensed,registered and have insurance.
Boston's most dangerous roads 2015-17 & some street redesigns since
It is no coincidence. BTD takes Vision Zero seriously and targets our most dangerous streets
Sometimes it requires giving up a parking space or a travel lane, but I'd rather that than a life
While wearing my
@cleverhoods
jacket on this rainy January night, I get on my
@RadPowerBikes
ebike.
Noticing my “cars ruins cities” sticker from the
@TheWarOnCars
, I realize that I’m more susceptible to (podcast) advertisements than I had previously thought.
@eakboston
@berkie1
Impacts on communities… Like, families not being able to afford housing?
Horrid commute patterns… people, like teachers, living far from where they work because the can’t afford to live closer?
There should be flex-posts on speed humps, making drivings go over them
Too many swerve into the gutter and oncoming bike traffic to half avoid the hump
@BostonBTD
@jfh
While Flynn targets bike lanes in his latest defense of dangerous roads…
BostonEMS recognizes *double parking* as a major issue, while bus and bike lanes benefit both emergency vehicles and the safety of Boston residents
BTD already accounts for accessibility and sidewalk clearance around BlueBike stations
Calling for more community process is just another way for Flynn to continue his campaign of discouraging and suppressing bicycle usage
W/ additional 100 Blue Bike stations being planned in city, I emphasized critical need for community process, working closely w/
@DisabilityBOS
persons w/ disabilities, young families & language access. Accessibility is critical w/ narrow sidewalks & old infrastructure.
#bospoli
I peeked in on the Neponset River Greenway Extension construction today
I’m looking forward to riding this long overdue connection of Boston’s harbor walk
Annoying, dangerous, etc… but also just illogical.
Whether you pull into the bike lane or not, other cars will have to merge into a single lane to get around you. So just park in the travel lane and leave the bike lane unblocked
I love when when people claim the summer months are the only good ones for biking– it just shows they’ve never tried and don’t know what they’re talking about
Hands down I’d take October and April over July
@WCVB
We have June July August and September to ride bicycles like children. The rest of the time this is a waste. Much like most of what Boston has done for the last few years. This shouldn’t be a priority.
Minding my business in the new bike lane on Centre St in West Roxbury…
Unprovoked, this guy driving a white Porsche suv goes by with his window down filming me (i.e. not looking at the road) yelling, “you fckn piece of…”
I guess someone’s mad about the road diet…
This is the first tweet in a series where I'll present ideas for safer designs of South Boston's roads
I aim to cultivate conversation for
@BostonBTD
's recently launched "South Boston Transportation Action Plan"

Up first: L street road diet and cycling improvements 🧵
Really funny to identify your employer and that you are literally THE CHIEF COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER, and then say "views and opinions are my own"
It's literally your job to communicate on their behalf. Like you are the guy. Just don't mention your employer/position.
@EdforBoston
You’re always tweeting about the lack of foot traffic in downtown Boston, arguing that brining public meetings in person to city hall will fix it.
Cancelling events downtown is not going to help.
I like how my feed is:
1) *videos of young children biking to school in December as part of a bike bus*
Followed by…
2) Full grown adults in West Roxbury: “these hobbyists forcing their lifestyle on everyone!! You can only bike 3 months a year anyway”
I’m much more concerned about the several ton vehicles injuring and killing people in our city, as opposed to 30 pound scooters that can barely get past 15 mph
Our March D2 Newsletter includes hearing orders to discuss transportation planning & resources for BPD Crime Lab, resolution to establish Blue Ribbon Commission to study & fill Downtown vacancies; BPDA meetings; Summer St Pilot Survey & more.
#bospoli
Remember when a four-year-old child was killed in South Boston two months ago at an intersection where planned safety improvements were delayed?
Are the consequences not clear to you, or do you just not care?
Opposed to bike lanes on main streets/commercial roads. Cambridge also delayed bike network due to small business. Called for hearing on public process re BTD. W/ studies on potential $500 million revenue loss & traffic concerns-let’s listen to neighbors & small business
