Man I visited in ICU tonight, a non-practicing Episcopalian, was very distraught bc he was unsure if, after death, he can be in heaven with his wife, who was Catholic. I explained to him how baptism works, prayed with him & blessed him. He seemed to have great peace when I left.

It’s simple. Secular Christmas begins at Midnight after Thanksgiving & may be pregamed as early as 11/1. We celebrate this w/ Mariah, Wings, Peanuts & capitalism. Concludes 12/25 by noon at the latest. Real Christmas begins w/ Vigil Mass & concludes with the Baptism of the Lord.

I’ve seen it again and again since I became a seminarian - a bizarre fixation on “protecting reputations” in the Church. The best way to uphold a reputation is to not do things that would destroy it. I’ll never understand why this concern so often rises to the top.

What always bugs me about overemphasis on spiritual warfare, deliverance prayers, famtree whatever, is it tends to view prayer like good counter-spells you need to say against bad spells, commanding angels & saints to protect you. It falls into the very trap it’s trying to avoid.
