no hard feelings towards sourcers! cold outreach is really hard, I think this was an honest mistake and I thought it was funny.
I'll make sure to check out , I hear they have some killer investors
ok I don't think I've ever seen my company THIS unanimous. better internal search is soo often requested, I wonder what went wrong with this product -- is slack the wrong medium for it? are the answers too unreliable?
I think good engineers can generally make good product decisions, but that last 10-20% of solving the really hard design & product challenges is so hard... and I think that last percent is what makes a product really great
I got an M3 Macbook Air today! Hoping that the M3 is enough to power my personal projects. LOVE that it isn't 25 pounds like my work laptop (16" Pro)...
@leonardtang_
hard agree… benefits of brooklyn is that cafes there have more space, but if they allow laptops then tables are usually full. I’m at Ariston rn tho and it’s quite nice!
Joining a growth stage company as a new grad is weird. Two years in and I'm one of the most tenured eng in my org, and leading projects of 4-5 engineers.
Meanwhile I talk to other companies and they still see me as a new grad?
@zehranaqvi_
honestly I agree, I prefer the ads that target my hobbies or clothing styles or interest to the awful spammy mobile game ads I get when I'm not logged in
I just realized one kickass designer has designed the branding for most of my favorite restaurants in nyc. she's done land to sea, yumpling, yunhai... how are people this cool??
check out !! I got these cards at a lunar new year market
apartment hunting in nyc is fun and I hate it!! I feel like I've memorized every listing in my neighborhood and am just waiting for one that I like...
started asking my coworkers to connect me with their landlords
@JohnnyNi13
I peeked at my friend's Slack when their co was just him and two cofounders.. so funny seeing them switch between 10 different conversations in 10 channels all w the same 3 people
the airplane acquisition makes me realize how much a great team cares about the product, and the gut-wrenching part of a startup's shutdown isn't the loss of your job or equity value, but the disappearance of e v e r y t h i n g you've worked on
I notice that when eng is faced with a hard product challenge we tend to push it off and then eventually... "let's just ship it and we'll figure it out later"
I just discovered that my friend is friends with the etymology nerd on IG and I missed him at her housewarming!!! I'm devastated I want to meet the bird language guy so bad
@tylerangert
Do you think these "just use the command line" folks are gatekeeping -- like "if I had to learn it it, so can / should you"?
Or is it more of "I can't think of a better way this could be done"?
@enggirlfriend
honestly curious if instagram could overtake pinterest with some better bookmark / save features! their algorithm is pretty good... I use IG for pottery / knitting inspo all the time
@RobertJBye
@arcinternet
I wonder if these new versions are usually actually hotfixes for bugs or regressions, it would explain the frequency of updates (and lack of clear added features)
@kgourg
@melodyskim
yes! not a fan of the "chewy" coffee texture with metal filters so adding paper on top just keeps the smaller particles out of the brew
@tadaspetra
totally agree it's a great project to learn skills! but sometimes you meet a guy who has raised 7 figures and has a team of 5 building an "AI to-do app"
how do you make yourself pause & reflect on a regular basis? I used to go to an SF coffee shop every Saturday & write out my thoughts, but haven't been able to keep it up in New York
also worth noting that I grew up in Redmond, WA aka the land of Microsoft, and just four years ago I had a Windows laptop + Android phone. Now I'm forever embedded in the Apple ecosystem
@towheretobegin
feels different -- with music or creative arts you're imagining the end state (how the song sounds), not focusing on how it's created (the notes and notation used). with coding it's all about getting the right instructions
