I have like 37 pregnant-on-purpose friends right now & the majority of our conversations are about how they're smushing together different leave time (paid, unpaid, partly-paid) for postpartum recovery. I can't get over the cruelty that this is the backdrop of the post-Roe world.
Self-managed abortion with pills is a safe, effective way to end a pregnancy.
You can purchase abortion pills before getting pregnant.
But please don't run on pill distributors unless you expect to possibly use or have a real plan to redistribute pills in your community. (1/4)
We don't need "auntie networks" or for anyone to stockpile pills with no meaningful way to redistribute them.
We need radical investment in existing structures that can get people their care. We need to empower each other to provide and have abortions on our own terms. (4/4)
Via virtual abortion doula-ing for folks who are self-managing, I see the pandemic-related supply chain issues & shipping delays have vastly improved from where they were. But people with $ panic-buying a lot of pills could take them out of the hands of someone in need. (2/4)
There are tangible, meaningful ways for those new to the abortion rights fight to engage, wherever they are. Start with your local abortion fund ()
Then, train up on the protocols for self-managed abortion with pils. ()
(3/4)
Note: this happened pre-Dobbs. Pre-Roe's reversal. People had to travel with excruciating, dying pregnancies from OH (& elsewhere) to DC (& elsewhere), & were blocked from necessary care. When we say Roe was the floor, the floor was in hell. We can't make that the standard again.
An Ohio woman testified today she collapsed in extreme pain while anti-abortion activists blocked her and her husband from entering a D.C. clinic.
"He was just telling them, โPlease let her go. Please let her go.'"
Seeing I need to add: Plan B is not an abortion pill. Medication abortion is a different drug than emergency contraception. More factual info on

*whispers* we can talk about Planned Parenthood being a provider of necessary services without saying abortion is "only a small percentage" of what they do.
Abortion is essential healthcare that can improve & sometimes save lives. It's nothing to apologize for!
The way none of us in repro thought of overcoming the "0nLy wOmEn HaVe AbOrTiOnS" crowd by just shifting our language to "1 in 3 clowns..." -- the truest and most gender-expansive identity.
For real though, thank you, Cecily ๐
To be clear it's not actually 37, though it does feel like my (non-repro) friend group is popping like Orville Redenbacher & most are just starting to understand the menace of just what society thinks of pregnant people!
@offbeatorbit
mixed couple influencers are thee worst. 'he's this & i'm that how quirky is that' is bad enough but when it inevitably becomes mining the 'blended babies' every move for content, it's insufferable. i say this with my full chest as a mixed kid in an interracial relationship. bad!
Were younger women 'not taking abortion rights seriously' or did they lack institutional power/their cries weren't taken seriously/legacy media continually reported that they don't care without talking to the ones who did & tried & bled to preserve a shred of our rights? Anyway.
I was quietly skeptical of Alison Roman for a while but the current fracas seems to validate what I thought, she's the kinda white lady who will cower behind "don't bully other women" after being called out. Your race analysis may be 0 but acknowledge that food is political!
Apparently I have to add that I work in repro and the tweet was *not* saying Roe falling was supposed to make parental leave better?! Of course not! But people lucky enough to access parental leave at all *&* those who can't have no remedy coming from a state that hates them.
@Imani_Barbarin
The Rockland county outbreak appears to have come from a community that is vaccine-resistant for religious reasons but also has a high frequency of rare genetic disorders b/c of insufficient genetic diversity w/in the community. So, yes to the above+ more's at play in this case:
So often mixed people can't be our authentic selves w/o getting called out in 1 direction or another: too much x not enough y, trying too hard, not trying at all... white supremacy is the blight causing all of it, but at some point we're diluting what we love about our identity
Pro-abortion buds: I love you. I love us. We fill each other's cups when it's tough, & right now it's near unbearable. But we got this.
I believe that we will win. It may not feel like it, but we know our work is popular and loved. We have so many more new, ready allies. (1/3)
@supermod_l
I think you're thinking about Plan B, a form of emergency contraception. I do not believe misoprostol for medication abortion has a weight limit.
"We don't want to work with you because abortion is unpopular and it may lose us favor for our issue" is quite a response to receive less than a week after ABORTION WON on the ballot literally everywhere it was challenged.
Home safe & ruminating on a long day, It was pretty astonishing how willing the antis were to show their true colors. No more cloak of "love the mama & baby" for a lot of them. There was so much screaming about how we're all whores going to hell, & very pointed direct threats 1/3
@NickyFrank30
They are very much not "designed to give women options other than abortions" and actually their tactics and grift of taxpayer dollars are very controversial for... anyone who pays taxes.
@catmckay_
@HarrisTeeter
Wow Harris Teeter still hasn't learned emergency contraception belongs on the shelf, huh? Thanks to you and your sister! Small win that'll definitely help someone
We were pushing for this A DECADE AGO when I was a GW senior. Thrilled it finally happened now, but still a bit frustrated it took the fall of Roe for emergency contraception access to be taken seriously at

Adding to my below comment, I strongly caution against using the Underground Railroad as comparison to our current post-Roe world. It is reductive of the long history of reproductive violence against Black women in this country. I encourage reading this:

Beyond the grotesque, shocking details of today's news about anti-abortion harassers in DC, I hope this draws people into an understanding of what happens outside clinics, & what can be done to combat it. 1/2
To be fair (since SCOTUS won't be), I'd also want to delay an announcement to the last possible moment and hide away for the summer if I were responsible for stripping away the rights of over half the population ...!
I may get ๐ for this but: please reconsider Jane's Revenge-ing on anti-abortion fake clinics.
I have been studying, writing, & campaigning against them for over 5 years. I know what we're up against.
They use these actions to fundraise. It won't help people get abortions. 1/

A 32 hour work week is possible. My org has been doing it over a year now; work still gets done, people are more able to manage life and leisure, and it's only enhanced commitment to our RJ mission & values. A win-win-win
BIG NEWS: Iโve just introduced legislation in Congress calling for a four-day work week. Itโs well past time that Americans have more time to live their lives, and not just work. Retweet if you agree, we need to make this a reality.
hey i know it's been a while but this news of Henry Kissinger dying makes me wonder if i'll ever be Kissing you again. It shouldn't take Diplomacy to settle our differences and it would be a war crime if we stay apart. Anyway no need to text back hope you're well..
Every workplace, especially non-profits in movement work, have a responsibility to offer salaries that are not just "competitive," but desirable.
This along with

My mom worked at the school where a lot of this community sent its kids, because it specialized in care for youth w/ disabilities.
So: YES false autism-panic and stigma is a huge factor. But here, poor outreach to insular communities at greater public health risks is also deadly

I suspect a lot of people will blame ageism & sexism re: the Feinstein story, & there's value in those conversations, but we also haven't grappled nearly enough with what it means to have a growing elderly population bulge & for them to have the most political power by a mile.
I've had my hair pat, curls crunched... and I don't even have that much volume! Layers of profiling at play, but Black people with natural hair bear the brunt of this, as they've found:

Unfortunately many abortions later in pregnancy happen b/c someone wants it earlier but can't access for either $, state restrictions, or other hurdles. This is becoming more and more of that percentage. Adverse pregnancy outcomes are part of it, not all. The answer is no bans.
Yep. If someone you deem close hasn't disclosed their past sexual assault to you, it's likely because they don't feel safe enough with you to discuss it. A lot of people expressing shock that AOC is a survivor, or worse, saying she disclosed for attention, are proving that point.
I was not surprised. Because I know many, many women whoโve been sexually assaulted to some degree. Like...maybe most of them? Solidly half the women I know at a minimum anyway
I watched I Care A Lot last night, &:

It can be simultaneously true that:
- $600 would mean a lot to many, especially those who were shut out of the last stimulus & likely will miss this one.
- $600 doesn't spell real relief
- Too many politicos celebrate compromise, & working people always pay the price.
"Pro-lifer" just yelled at a pro-choice chanter, saying she was "disturbing the baby" of a pregnant pro-choice woman nearby. The latter woman asks, "You don't think I know what's best for my baby?" And that really says it all about what the "pro-life" movement is.

When you click the link, the article title is, "If Youโre a Commuter, You Might Want to Avoid the Supreme Court on December 1" & framing protests about the gutting of Roe v. Wade as an issue that impacts the DMV solely if you're a car commuter is missing the point, to be gentle.
Abortion is health care, health care should never be criminalized, and should be accessible to all who need it. Anyone who can't state that plainly is dangerous to society and unfit for positions of power.

The fact that most candidates haven't prepared well for this question nor have their staff implored them to says UH LOT about their stance on abortion rights: cast aside, ignore, show up late to the fight once it's on the Right's chosen turf. We need to demand better of Dems.
Alert: every candidate in 2020 will be asked if s/he thinks a woman should be able to terminate a pregnancy up until birth. The only correct answer is to reject the question as intentional disinformation designed to scare people and criminalize abortion care. The end.
Let's dig in to the "camping" metaphor, shall we?
If you'd never been in the woods, would you trust some stranger on the internet to guide you, or would you seek out a seasoned, local, vetted, hiker?
That's what abortion funds so: give know-how & experience to safely guide you.

Google is promising to do the thing they already promised to do in 2019 -- don't let them get away with lip service: keep up pressure on Big Tech to ensure ACCURATE abortion information is accessible on their platforms!
