Aucklanders just got slaughtered by Simeon Brown- New ‘drivers tax’s’ and a axe to funding any infrastructure that provides any alternatives to driving. Show me a global city that is going backwards like this?!
Today was the start of Māori and Pakeha pushing back against this governments direct hit against the progress we’ve made for the betterment of this country. Honour Te Tiriti.
🚨BREAKING🚨
Members of Brian Tamaki’s Destiny Church Gisborne branch have tonight painted over the towns rainbow crossing, carrying out a threat Tamaki made yesterday to take action if the council refused to cancel tomorrows drag story time in the cities library.
Road deaths in Auckland have fallen by 30% where lower speed limits have been in place. So when a 20min trip takes 15sec longer to prevent injury or death,
@SimeonBrownMP
is not only lacking evidence but looking more out of touch with Auckland by the day.
Destiny Church are patched up gang members and the government should treat them as such. But this government validates this behavior with their own anti rainbow actions.
@radionz
You have stood by me, by us, as one of the most outstanding leaders that Aotearoa New Zealand has ever seen. Thank you boss, we love you. You have achieved much for us now and for our generations to come.
In the eyes of the students, Seymour’s behavior has been unacceptable. That’s what they are standing up to. Why are students being disciplined for Haka or freedom of expression?
At the airport heading home to Northcote pinching myself that
@nzlabour
just had the smoothest leadership transition NZ could hope for. What a team to be a part of. ✈️
Where is the
@MarkMitchellMP
on this issue. It reflects the pattern of ram raids, damage to property, the anxiety and the rainbow community feeling unsafe.
@NZNationalParty
needs to show some leadership here.
🏳️⚧️ Going after the Trans community in Sport is despicable
@cjsbishop
. The guidelines were developed by researchers, community, academics and advocacy groups.
You can’t solve congestion by a single focus on roads. Aucklanders need to be able to get around on different modes. The best global cities have good infrastructure for walking and cycling. This is another backward step. ⏪️↩️
Just had someone abuse me at my office about having too much Te Reo used on
@NewshubNZ
and
@radionz
. He told me amongst other profanities that I was stupid and all you Māoris are the same. I’m like, have you seen my mum?! 🤷🏽♂️🙆🏾♂️
Simeon’s Utu politics has created the worst transport policy we’ve seen in decades. No city like ours in the world would take such a backwards step without any evidence and put lives a risk. The government will be embarrassed by Auckland Councils response.
🏳️🌈 Today marks the anniversary of same-sex marriage becoming legal in Aotearoa New Zealand on 19th August 2013. Thanks to a bill introduced by former Labour MP Louisa Wall. Progress for all of our communities is in the hands of those that lead in Parliament- Kia kaha tonu.
The current state highway maintenance budget is $2.8 billion for 2021/24 – that’s a 65 per cent increase on the $1.7 billion that National spent during 2015/18, when it was last in office.
Auckland will have to absorb most of this. North Shore Hospital has 150 beds that this govt won’t open because of their reckless tax cuts for their mates.
National has no plan to deal with reducing congestion on Aucklands North Shore. Our community was let down by the last National government and now they want to do it again. Also missed the memo on how to reduce emissions. Completely out of touch.
Unbelievable that
@chrisluxonmp
thinks his govt is “very supportive” of the rainbow community. They’ve attacked trans woman, are removing sexuality guidelines in schools and have discontinued hate speech work. Next will be cuts to support services.
I stand with the trans community and share their concerns on Posie Parker. I believe in a NZ of inclusivity, where everyone can feel safe, standing against division and intolerance infiltrating our community. I will continue to make it clear that her views are not welcome.
National MPs won't allow the Waitangi Tribunal to brief the Māori Affairs SC on their concerns about the Treaty Principles Bill. This is an outrageous obstruction of democracy and yet another overreach hiding the government’s anti Māori agenda.
The Minister of Education
@EricaStanfordMP
speaks often about Maori education being important. But the talk is hollow when our tamariki can’t actually be Māori in our education system.
It’s incredible how this govt doubles down each week discriminating against Māori. But the dumbest part here, is the ignorance of the economic benefits of this policy for everyone.
@LabourMaoriNZ
Police Minister has declined a visit to North Shore Police station. This is undemocratic. We’ve had lots of incidents on the Shore including shootings. What is he hiding?
30+ days ago I raised safety concerns with
@MarkMitchellMP
. No response. Meanwhile the Deputy PM continues to drum up hate against the trans community. What the heck is this government doing?
I want our rainbow rangatahi to feel safe going to school. I’ve asked the Minister
@MarkMitchellMP
for a plan and have included
@EricaStanfordMP
and Matt Doocey. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
$2.1 billion dollar hole has been confirmed in National’s tax scheme. What will need to be cut further for Northcote to fund your tax cuts
@dan_bidois
? ✂️
The Government has taken an axe to Māori Housing providers slashing $40 million along with cutting $20 million for rangatahi transitional housing. 🪓 🏘️
The Government must show some compassion and create a special visa to allow Palestinians with family in New Zealand to be reunited with them here. 🇵🇸✊🏽
@LabourMaoriNZ
@nzlabour
National pushes forward to disestablish Māori wards at speed. Referred to the Justice SC, not Māori affairs. They say this is about community voice, but today have blocked our request to extend the public submission period.
@LabourMaoriNZ
In line with our infrastructure deficit, we have a leadership deficit. Luxon keeps playing into his negative ‘wet and whiny’ narrative rather than talking up our region as a place of opportunity and prosperity.
Why do people keep promoting boot camp learning environments as the silver bullet to raising Māori achievement? I want better and broader pathways for young people.
#HighAspirations
I’m proud that we have delivered on our promise to our communities to ban conversion practices now. Aroha atu, aroha mai- Love given is love received. Love is love. ❤️🤍💜💙💚💛🧡
@nzlabour
The National Government has sneakily reneged on protecting the Hauraki Gulf, reducing the protected area of the marine park and inviting commercial fishing in the depleted seascape. What has changed
@SimonWattsMP
?
1/2 💦 The most significant issue we’re currently facing is on the North Shore. A wastewater pump station on Wairau Road that serves several suburbs on the North Shore has been flooded, destroying the control systems. This means the pump station is overflowing.
It is an outrage that
@SimeonBrownMP
has declined to be interviewed on this. Decongesting Auckland won’t be achieved by not expanding our transport modes. He is the Minister now and needs to put on his big boy pants and front up.
@radionz
@NewshubPolitics
It’s time
@AucklandUni
tell the government to back off. MAPAS has successfully helped grow more Māori and Pasifika doctors that we desperately need more of. This is an over reach.
I want our rainbow rangatahi to feel safe going to school. I’ve asked the Minister
@MarkMitchellMP
for a plan and have included
@EricaStanfordMP
and Matt Doocey. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
I’m really sorry to be hearing this has happened. Our staff at the hospital do an excellent job under extremely tough work conditions at the moment and don’t deserve to experience racism.
It’s odd that local council is getting a serve of ‘national knows what is best’ when they should be building a constructive relationship and in many cases like ours in Auckland- we’ve already made loads of cuts.
A single focus on roads won’t reduce congestion, it won’t get us to our destination faster and it won’t help our planet. This is dooms day for our city.
I’m stoked to see many of my talented colleagues playing important roles in our cabinet. Also pleased that Chris Hipkins has appointed me as a Whip to support our team. I’m very greatful for the opportunity to serve alongside Tangi,
@Camilla_Belich
@traceymclellan
Globally our unique Māori and Pasifika culture is attractive for visitors. We need to leverage this more, not go backwards. The Govt is embarrassing us on the international stage.
Going right back to Dream Fono days at UoA, I was always driven by his aspiration and hope for our rangatahi. Moe mai ra
@efesocollins
. Absolutely heart breaking. 💔
Whānau are going to foot the bill for Simeon Browns revenge politics. It’s short sighted and unfair of the Government, particularly for our most vulnerable.
@waateanews
Almost 9,000 people in the Northcote electorate 65+ saw their pensions lifted by over $100 for a couple and by $66 for an individual from 1 April 2023. That’s 22.5% of our community.
#Initforyou
What is the
@TaxpayersUnion
view on the governments expensive Treaty Principles Bill legislation that the PM has ruled out proceeding past first reading? What is the cost?
Our Māori heritage and being the world’s largest Polynesian city and super-ethnic diversity makes our city unique and one of the biggest economic opportunities in front of us.
As chair of
@nzlabour
Rainbow caucus, haere rā Speaker
@WainuiomataTrev
. Forever an ally for our communities from being a whip on homosexual law reform in 1986 to chairing debate to ban conversion practices. We thank you for your support for our human rights. 🌈
Last night at
@NZParliament
I cut the ribbon on the newly refurbished Rainbow Room – a select committee room celebrating the progress of inclusivity at Parliament, the trailblazing LGBTQI+ MPs who led the way and significant legislation like the Marriage Equality Act. 🌈🌈
Labour Government will establish a national action plan to ensure this debilitating condition is properly researched – and improve education, clinical management and care.
Endo is common – but that doesn’t mean anyone should just have to put up with debilitating pain.
This government is trying to distract from their unpopular policies. It’s 2024, focus on real change that can improve the lives of New Zealanders rather than transphobic rhetoric that you cant implement.
Where are the families they’ve thrown out gone to? Auckland is down 300 households in a matter of months during a housing crisis while cutting Kainga Ora and stopping social housing builds.
