Bought an HDMI cable from Amazon. But they sent me this instead. So, now they’ve refunded me and told me I can keep it. Which means now I have a bag of babies in my house, and I won’t sleep tonight.
This is correct. But more important to me is this is what EVERYONE gets. Anyone who replies “but I hardly use any of that” should also think how much of the NHS they actually use. The BBC is one of the oldest socialist institutions in the UK. Makes you wonder why it’s at risk eh?
Reminder: it was a government that introduced free TV licences for over-75s, and a government that ended them. Don’t accept the narrative that it’s the BBC that’s doing this.
In Wales, the very clear message is to STAY HOME AND SAVE LIVES. That’s what we ALL need to do, in order to get the virus under control.
It’s been many weeks of restrictions, it’s really tough for a lot of people but we are not remotely out of the woods yet.
#StayHomeSaveLives
Really excited about this news. I’ll be sad to leave the BBC after 14 years, especially my R1 family. It’s been an amazing ride. But can’t wait to get stuck in to a new challenge.
“Wow great story. Can I get your name?”
Elley
“And your surname?”
Hmmm, it’s just Elley
“Ok! ✏️ Elley... ✏️ Justelley.
Save. Send.”

@heatherrhian
for spotting this one)
I only ever worked with
#SteveWright
the once. For Radio 1 Vintage, he wanted to take a different approach to others - picking his own best bits, and explaining why to the listener. The result is a 43min “Directors Commentary” of his greatest hits -
So that’s it. I’ve left the BBC! Cor blimey. Thanks for the lovely leaving speeches from
@TheJoeHarland
and
@Scott_Mills
. And thanks for the woines I have just had. I’m now going to have a month off, then start a new job. R1 was the best job ever and I will miss... everything 💔
We’re pleased to announce
@samuelbailey
as our new Managing Director. Sam is a former trustee of The Academy, he chaired last year’s ARIAS, and was Exec of the 2020 Festival. He starts in the role straight away. Read more here -
Radio is a very personal medium- we spend hours a day everyday with our favourite DJs. So it makes sense to be upset and shocked when there’s change. But a) give change a chance and b) don’t @ someone when you’re describing how much you think you dislike them. That’s a dick move.
📻 HIRING RADIO PRESENTERS! 📻
BFBS The Forces Station is looking for two Presenter-Producers - one in North Yorkshire and one in Wiltshire. You’ll do a daily music radio show and make packages, interviews etc
Send me your demo!
Very excited to be joining the team at

More details:
RADIO PRESENTERS! I’m going to be hiring again soon. Do you want to travel the globe, presenting your own daily radio show, telling stories across the British Forces world? BFBS needs passionate people, with the flexibility in their lives for a big international adventure. @ me!
BBC radio have reverted to regularly scheduled breakfast shows - eg Greg, Zoe, Lauren all on air this morning. I’m so glad. People need their friends at a time of sadness. Glad to see presenters being trusted to understand their audience.
Excited to say I’m leading the
@RadioAcademy
Festival this autumn. It’ll be virtual of course, but that won’t hold us back. If you’ve got an idea for something we should be discussing, or someone who should be appearing, I want to hear from you! DMs are open, drop me a line.
So Apple have announced their new chips will be built on ARM architecture.
ARM stands for Advanced RISC Machine, but the A used to stand for Acorn.
In 2022, your new Mac will have a solid family line connecting it to this little beauty... the BBC Micro.
I’m a little emotional.
Russell T Davies calling back to a throwaway use of the word binary thirteen years ago, to make it a centrepiece of this episode, is extremely impressive. Structuring the pre-amble, working it naturally into the script, and giving it such high meaning. Tipped hat to that fellow.
For the last four years, it’s been my privilege to oversee
@AudioFund
- distributing £3.4m in that time to 91 small businesses, to make amazing radio content. All good things come to an end, and it was a pleasure to draw this pilot to a close with a great gathering tonight. 📻 ❤️
Genuine Tube posters from back in the day. The science goes - the clay all around the tunnels used to be wet, but over 100+ years the heat from the trains has cooked the earth, and that’s why it’s no longer cool in the tube.

anniversary alert!
25 years ago tonight,
@Steve_Lamacq
and
@JoWhiley
permanently took over The Evening Session from
@MarkGoodier
(In session all that week: Teenage Fanclub)
Happy Silver Anniversary Jo and Steve!
I find the Radio 1 Christmas Presenters scheme really moving. Hearing this young talent getting a chance to do what they do on the big stage. It chokes me up thinking how big a deal this would’ve been to 17yo me. And look, this guy is only two letters away from being me!
Whenever there are debates about the BBC, there are always people who say “I don’t watch anything on the BBC”, and I always think... I just don’t believe you. I do not believe you actually watch NOTHING on the BBC. I don’t believe it is possible to live here and consume zero BBC
Great to get the
#UKARIAS
nominations out for another year. Hardest year by far, the judges said. Whittling 1,058 entries down to 154 is no mean feat. Congrats to all nominated, you’re seriously the best of the best. Here’s my happy face:
It's Radio 1's 51st Birthday! A year ago today, we launched
#Radio1Vintage
. Here are some best bits.
Right now, you can vote for the team behind Radio 1 Vintage to win Team Of The Year at the prestigious
#UKARIAS
. We'd love your vote at 1/5
Very proud of the
#UKARIAS
tonight. The team at
@CreateSoho
put together a brilliant show in difficult conditions. We did the hybrid thing! Some awards in the room, most awards at home, everyone got involved. Live streamed for the first time. Hundreds of viewers. Great moments.
I interviewed Janice Long in 2017 as part of Radio 1 Vintage. Here’s that chat - and also the edit which includes some of her best bits from the archive

A really tough day for colleagues in commercial radio across the UK. Bold plans for these now national brands. But a painful change, with 10 sites shutting and 100+ redundancies.
Capital, Heart, and Smooth radio stations are all ending local and regional breakfast shows this year as
@Global
introduces national programmes on all frequencies

Zoe Ball
Ken Bruce

You’ve got to say that’s a pretty awesome weekday line-up. Bravo Radio 2. Class of 2019 looking strong!
I’ve often wanted to put
@scott_mills
on the radio after a few woines, and here it is! I’ve known Scott for 15 years, and
@Chris_Stark
for 10 - this is them at their most genuine. Lovely stuff.
What an amazing week it has been! Spending it with one of best mates in Newquay for
@BBCR1
This week me and
@chris_stark
had a sit down and had a Sunset Chat, no-filter love letter to Radio 1 and each other as co-hosts and friends ❤️

I was really moved by the reaction the
@AudioFund
got every time it was mentioned at last night's
#APAs2021
. A big round of applause when the Chair of
@WeAreAudioUK
mentioned it in her speech, and another cheer when the host listed its achievements. It's such a positive force 🤞

Got something new and exciting to launch next week for
@radioacademy
. I’ve been working on it for a while, and I really think it could make a difference. Feels great to be launching something totally new. Keep an eye out, 1 September… !
Check this out - if you’re a fan of the
@Scott_Mills
show, you need this Xtra Factor After Sun It Takes Two Extra Slice podcast in your life. Fun making this with
@Chris_Stark
. If you like it, we’ll make some more.
Thought I’d do a little sneaky podcast on the sly.
If you download the
@scott_mills
daily podcast today you get an extra one to make up for not being on fridays anymore 😉
It’s raw as, but if ur a fan of the show hopefully you will like 🤙
You only have to look at the tweets from devastated Radio 1 listeners to see what it is Scott will bring to Radio 2. In 30 years, when he retires from there, the reaction will be the same. One of the most creative, adaptable, talented broadcasters in the UK.
Once did a Live Lounge live stream with talkback audio instead of output. Viewers could hear Fearne Cotton telling Cheryl Cole not to say fuck or bugger.
Bauer Scotland has apologised after a number of expletives were heard during a Facebook Live video stream shared across various stations' social media channels
Had a fantastic night at
#UKARIAS
. Having been responsible for it in the past, I know how much effort and worry goes into it, and it all paid off. I love how they’ve developed the stage and visual production, and I thought
@RomeshRang
and
@Alicelevine
did a great job. ❤️ 📻
The ITV dojo has to be the weirdest thing I’ve seen in sport coverage in some time. Four grown men in suits and socks, looking spectacularly uncomfortable, doing slow motion rugby manoeuvres
#RWC2019
One of the things I was happiest with from
#RadFest20
was buying a stack of branded lightboxes, and sending them around to our speakers and hosts. They are now all in my loft.
When they first extended BH, they took off the sloping roof and created a 7th and 8th floor. They kept all the roof slates, and later gave them away internally as BBC Radio Awards. I’ve got one in my downstairs loo.
The third of
@Chris_Stark
’s Friday Extra podcasts is now available! Chris speaks to Sam the birthday game victim. He catches up with new R1 DJ
@jackxsaunders
, and answers listeners questions. NB: It features Tap End!!

I’m hiring for an Audio Producer to join The Radio Academy’s small, part-time team, who are all deeply passionate about the radio and audio industry. The Producer will be responsible for launching a new RA podcast early next year. Details here -
Ah yes. I’m the Chair of the ARIAs this year. So that’s fun. Been working very hard behind the scenes to bring you this anno today. And now the work begins!
We’re thrilled to announce that The ARIAS are moving to London. We’ll be back with an amazing celebration of audio and radio from a West End Theatre in early 2020. 1/6

Just found my first ever BBC paycheck! This was for a 3hr shift on the Jeff Owen mid-morning show on
@BBCNottingham
during summer vacation from uni. Produced by
@sophieshardlow
. I kept the same staff number for the next 21 years!
Quick guys, get over to Facebook. That guy from school you once knew is doing the top 10 albums thing (no explanations, just covers). And someone you knew in a job once is doing top 10 travel photos (and wants to nominate you). Roll up roll up!
As a parent currently reading lots of Roald Dahl to a 4yo, I can tell you it massively needs this attention. We are constantly adapting on the fly, avoiding unkind phrases that conflate appearance with behaviour. Adore the stories, but they’re not all age appropriate anymore.
📚 Hundreds of changes have been made to the original text of Roald Dahl's books after sensitivity readers were hired to scrutinise the text with words such as 'fat' removed
