The wildfire in CA is closing in on the Reagan library, which is where he is buried. So the army corps of engineers is trying to dig up the coffins & corpse to move it to safety. This is the exact scenario all of punk rock historically has been an effort to summon.

If Oppenheimer’s a hit we can get a prestige drama about the broader US-German bomb race, where in 1944 the OSS gave former White Sox catcher Moe Berg a gun and sent him to a Heiseinberg lecture in Zurich with orders to shoot him dead on the spot if the Nazis sounded close.

The union win at the Amazon warehouse was done in an unorthodox way. What I wonder is whether this and Starbucks are signs that we could win a lot more elections in this labor market, and the unions aren’t jumping on the opportunity.

Lot of room for a movement of 21st century sewer socialism, but the left has gotten weirdly hung up on allying with homeowners against legalizing apartments (& is semi-uninterested in good policy on transit, pedestrianization, parking, etc).

Please talk to nursing home union organizers before having a dumb, reductive, overly romantic position like ‘nursing homes should be legally allowed to exist’ challenge

@hilaryr @amyklobuchar Nothing wins my respect like a boss who makes calls to get former employees new job offers rescinded. Now that’s leadership!

Wanted to celebrate Olof Palme’s birthday today with an ‘Olof Palmer’- a mix of ice tea, lemonade & aquavit. But none of the 3 liquor stores I went to sold aquavit. Olof’s toast thwarted by the scarcities of consumer capitalist society. Much to contemplate.

2016 and this website have put a lot of interesting people in my phone, but I really set Matt Christman apart. There’s nothing else like him, an actual national treasure.

The only major problem afflicting California is a severe lack of housing. It’s the reason for the increase in both homelessness and your home value. It benefits older homeowners. How are you people unable to see this, how can we make it simpler.

I’m not sure who benefits from the collapse of California. It has to be intentional because it’s so thoroughgoing and happening so quickly. But I can’t figure out the true engine and the reward.

All for good reason. But you get stuck in your ways and its hard to turn the ship around and yesterdays innovators are todays bureaucrats. Basically, I wonder if we should be facilitating lower commitment salting, blanketing cards in urban workplaces, and filing light.

Seems like urban America had a pink wave over the past 25 years, downstream from other changes. Violent crime fell; when it did, young educated adults started moving to cities in numbers; agglomeration did its thing and we got some tech / meds & eds breakout economies.

“I want to give out the big candy bars but ONLY to the homeowner parents kids from right here” is a sentiment so cartoonishly evil & parochial we’d laugh at it as a characterization in an 80s teen movie

Some smart unions a few decades ago adopted the mantra that new organizing & membership growth is the #1 priority, and built various systems to fund & conduct new organizing. What worked got replicated and unions are dug into their existing systems.
