The old version of Tiger Woods, the superhuman version, was easier to be in awe of. This version, the damaged version, is easier to like. 74 in that wind after being 4 over thru 5 holes was simply admirable. And unlike earlier in his career he is enjoying the fans. Nice to see!

IMO, LIV is not about changing the PGA Tour, spending more time with families or growing the game. It's about guaranteed money, lots of it. That undermines a key fan attraction: Don't make cut, don't get check. It's a short-term money grab that could hurt pro golf long-term.

Not only does Greg Norman not know difference between #LPGA & #LET events, but neither does staff that prepared him for this interview. I'd say I'm surprised, not I'm not. Based on social media, followers of #LIV are not core golf fans. Apparently, neither are its leaders.

Explain this: How can PGA Tour be in antitrust violation when there are dozens of pro golf tours worldwide? It's just that to get to PGA Tour you have to be cream of the crop. That's also how you get to top leagues in baseball, football, basketball, soccer, hockey or any sport.

What does @PGATOUR do for players? Finds sponsors & negotiates TV deals, which provide prize money. TV exposure makes player endorsements valuable to corps. FedEx Cup bonus. Player pensions. Staffs tourneys. Promotes charities. Other than that, the Tour does nothing.

The @LPGA today said the 2024 schedule will have 33 official events competing for $116.55 million in official money. That’s the highest in Tour history, up from $70 million in 2021, a 69% increase.

This thought on #NFL overtime rule. Suppose they had it in golf. A tourney ends tied after regulation and goes to sudden death. On the first extra hole I hit it to 20 feet and you hit to 18 feet. I make my birdie and the match is over. You don’t get to putt. #ChangeTheRule

Annika Sorenstam did one of the hardest things there is to do in sports – she accomplished what everyone expected her to do. Lugging around the unfair but understandable burden of expectation, she not only lived up to the hype, she exceeded it. My column:

My last @AP event before I went to Golf World was 1998 @ShopRiteLPGA week before @uswomensopen and after Se Ri Pak won LPGA Championship. New fans, amazing energy. I stand in solidarity with Koreans on tour, all Asians and all @LPGA players in opposing bigotry in all its forms.

The skill of @TigerWoods is so immense it’s easy to overlook how his mind dissects a golf course and how hard he grinds. To play 23 holes in that wind and shoot even-par in Rd. 2 after so little competition & so many surgeries says as much about his resolve as it does his talent.
