When my dad was a young man, he opened a production co in the hope to make films, sadly he never got round to making them. Today I signed to take over the little production company for myself, in his name. Don't worry dad, I will make films for you, in your name, in your honour.
Brendan Fraser got blacklisted from Hollywood for being brave enough to come forward about his sexual assault, he is now getting his moment to look back at the industry that spat him out and roar in its face with

- we fucking LOVE to see it.
I'm sorry, but
@neonrated
's marketing for LONGLEGS is how ALL horror should be marketed. No gimmicks, nothing given away, just beautiful artistry where designers get to flare their magic through posters and teasing taglines. Such seduction, I'm so excited.
I really want to write a horror female lead that's iconic, like imagine yourself an Art the Clown, a Freddie or Jason but it's a woman. Not a creepy girl child, or a doll. A woman being gross, hideous and scary (& it being franchisable). This is my pitch! HIRE ME TO WRITE IT.
working in film and TV I have heard producers say repeatedly no one wants women 40+ in lead, no one wants to fund regional female voices, no one wants to hear women be vulgar and swear.
#HappyValley
has proven every fucking one wrong. Viva La Sally Wainwright and Sarah Lancashire
Apple TV cancelling a show because a female character is unlikeable shows how fucking dull our industry is. The male gaze still longs for women to be palatable on screen and that's what suffocates us of interesting stories. Some of our best characters are wretched women.
Florence Pugh was slated to star Sofia Coppola's ‘The Custom of the Country’. However, Apple abandoned the project.
“It’s a real drag. [….] They didn’t get the character of Undine, she’s so ‘unlikable.’ But so is Tony Soprano,” says Sofia Coppola.
a24 producer has asked for a meeting about the pitch! It literally means nothing in the grand scheme of filmmaking, but everything to me and I'm just hopeful I can sell the dream enough to get that door open a little more.

new followers! hi🥺! I'm Rebecca, I've been writing horror since I was 7 (no joke) and have been "professional"(?) since COVID. I have 3 features in varying stages of development, a horror novel and play on the go. My passion is to make horror horny, fierce and female centred! ❤️
What I really adore about
#HappyValley
is you have a female lead who is over 40, with complexity, comedy, tragedy, ferocity and written superbly, so much so that she out shines every male counterpart. It feels very rare to see this on screen, but
@spiceyw
does it easily.
The first time Maika saw Nicolas Cage in full makeup as Longlegs, her mic that was taped to her shirt picked up her heart rate which had skyrocketed to around 150bpm while just sitting still and looking at him 👀
SO, dipping a toe: want to build a directory of short / feature film: producers / DOP / ADs / actors / SFX / make up / costume / sound / camera (basically anyone who wants to make horror!) please come and say hello! I want all of you on my radar ❤️
a hot take for a Friday: we really need better roles for women in horror aged 40+. I don’t want to see anymore hags, psychotic mothers, gruesome bodies… just good, creepy, sensationally brilliant roles that would be the envy of their male counterparts. (I’m working on it)
just want to take a little moment, I've been working hard to become a paid writer for 10 years & now I've signed onto two features I just want to honestly say to anyone that needs it I promise you, I had no connections, or huge financial backing, but I got here and so will you. X
don’t laugh - I’m leaving my job this August to pursue writing and acting full time. Got no fucking money but sometimes you’ve just got to leap and take a chance ⭐️
LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL had me grinning until credits. Rarely to horror films fill a cinema with laughter, gasps, smirks and genuine moments of fantastic, practical gore. I understand the AI criticism, but what an original. Five stars, Dastmalchian is a leading man for sure.
another day of being sent horror scripts to read / critique which involve hyper sexualised rape scenes and inconceivably brutal murders towards women who have been written one dimensionally or through the male (incel like) gaze. This genre needs a spruce up, this shit is boring.
6 years ago I made my first "professional" horror short, this year I signed a contract to make my first feature for a mill. Keep working, keep dreaming❤️
A year ago at 6am in the morning two men followed me to my train. They threatened to take it turns on me, put their hand up my skirt. I filmed them and they turned away, calling me a whore. We all just want to get places safely. I weep for
#saraheverand
- she should’ve been safe
As a woman who works in horror as a script reader, it is common to be given a script that has a graphic r*pe scene in which was obviously added in for titillation and fantasy than used as a genuine plot point. It's fucking tedious and shows we still exploit womens stories.
I had an abortion when I was incredibly young to make sure a horrible man didn’t have access to me and my future. I am so grateful I had that choice, every woman should have this choice. This isn’t political, this is life and death.
SO, two features in development but I want to look for collaborators on a new project. Incredibly female led, body horror, period piece. If you're a director / producer / anyone who just loves making female led horror, say hi! ❤️
#LONGLEGS
is showing on a small screen in my home town and because I have invited so many friends to come see it with me Saturday night at that one screening we dominate most the cinema. Imagine, a screen filled with a majority of hot horror queens - I've done the lords work.
Today was my dad's funeral. One of his childhood friends gifted me a script my Dad had written when he was 15. It's a dark comedy involving Dracula. My heart is distraught, but I'm so honoured he was my Dad. And I hope I can be the horror film maker he helped me become ❤️
If you're a woman / LGBTQ+ / queer / poc creator who writes / creates horror / dark comedy / gothic stories in ANY FORM I'd like you to comment below so I can make a thread of people we should all be following! ❤️ tell us what you do and why you love it!
For all angry horror bros in my DMS saying that I can't copy Freddie or Jason, if you read the tweet I'm not saying this, I'm saying the genre NEEDS an ORIGINAL female slasher who is franchisable and doesn't play to tropes like children / hags / scary dolls. Hope that helps x
theatres in England will talk about a new groundbreaking production and it'll just be a play by a middle aged white dude about politics or his recent divorce.
hello new followers! I'm Rebecca, i have 2 feature films and a tv show in development. My passion is to be the change in horror - I want to be a force for good for women and LGBTQ+ members of the genre and make sure they're heard, and filling roles in the space ❤️
Having female leads written by men isn't "enough" to say we're doing better by women in the genre. We still urgently need more female writers / directors / producers making horror and telling stories. The token few doesn't mean we've set the balance right.
I took this photo in Rome on my film camera and it's honestly my greatest achievement to date - fully encapsulating how obsessed I am with Italian gothic / catholic imagery.
I’ve pitched a few horror plays to people from the N now and each time they’ve said “no one wants to hear that story told”… each of those scripts are now being developed into films. People do want to hear these stories, you’re just not brave enough to tell them. So films will…
National Theatre director Rufus Norris has warned that a surge in opportunities with streaming platforms including Netflix and Amazon is taking talent away from theatre
Storytelling and filmmaking comes from the creative collaboration between people, it comes from our learned knowledge, the soul of what our story we want to tell means to us. Sets are remarkable places, and scripts are often directly dictated from the heart.
So uh, yeah fuck ai.
Ashton Kutcher says you'll soon be able to "render a whole movie" using AI.
"You’ll just come up with an idea for a movie, then it will write the script, then you’ll input the script into the video generator and it will generate the movie."
Also, I think people are misunderstanding what I mean. Yes, we have Pearl, and women in the franchise who commit murder - but they're all plagued with emotion: Motherhood, betrayal, SA victims. I just want a woman whose a murder machine, cold and distant.
Actresses in horror have to fight so hard for respect. Many a time have I spoken to young actresses who have had graphic rape and nudity put upon them ON the day of shooting with a lot of pressure from male directors for them to comply to "last minute changes".
I hope we all make it. I mean that. This industry hasn't got room for jealousy, envy or hatred - getting a film made, writing a script, auditioning, mastering a craft, it takes a village. Honestly, good luck to you all. I really hope you get there x
Isn’t it fucking FANTASTIC that films like Terrifier 2 and Skinamarink are proving that indie horror can absolutely take on and smash box offices with original stories in a time Hollywood keeps regurgitating the same old shit. Viva La Original Horror!
today marks a year of being a freelance horror writer. Learning quickly that what I’m writing is provocative and difficult to make, and though it’s been hard, the future of horror being female led is being actualised by those who are brave enough to back me. What a year. ❤️
looks like we're going to be shooting the feature film i co-wrote next summer / autumn. Mind blowing. Dreams feeling a little closer, at the reach of my finger tips.
I’m really missing
#CunkOnBritian
- we need to see
@missdianemorgan
doing more “Cunk On”... Cunk on Shakespeare, Cunk on Science, Cunk on Space - dare I say Cunk on Brexit? Whatever it is keep them coming forever and ever, pls?
“How is it men crush women time and time again and go unpunished? If men were held accountable they’d hang every hour of the day, every day of the year.”
THE opening line of the year goes to

My dad, who gifted me a love for cinema and horror, passed away on Monday night. My heart has been torn in two, but from this, I will be working toward making a horror short in his honour. Cancer is a fucker, but my dads legacy will continue ❤️
with my Dad's future being in confusion, and my heart aching, I thought I might channel this energy into making a short film of a script of mine he really loved. When I'm ready, I'll be looking for producers, crew etc. it's a gnarly American western body horror. Anyone up for it?
Had a little flurry of new followers so I wanted to say hi! I’m Rebecca, my dream is to make horror mainstream on stage whilst also writing film/tv that bring women/queer/femmes to the forefront of horror and writing them roles that’d be the envy of their male counterparts. ❤️🫡
woke up with a fire in my stomach this morning. I’m ready to take up space as a woman in horror, I’m ready for my stories to be shared, I want people to hear them. I’m valid, I’m powerful and I’m ready to take it on 👊🏻🩸
I've decided in the next two years I will be writing / developing / directing a film for
@Shudder
@Shudder_UK
and then in the next 10 I'll be doing the same for
@A24
- just leaving this manifestation out there
UK theatres, I beg of you - FILL YOUR STAGES WITH NEW STORIES FROM UNHEARD VOICES. I am up to my teeth with seeing you turn to just men with “takes” on politics, sexuality, faith… this world is filled with unheard voices cuz of your refusal to change. Listen, dare, progress!
I’ve watched a lot of theatre recently and it’s been such an honour, but do you know what I really crave on stage? Women of 50+ doing dark comedy which ferociously addresses LGBTQ+ relationships, abortions and fairy folklore. (I have it, that’s my play, I want my play on stage).
Please look at the attention Sally Wainwright and Sally Lancashire are getting and realise that we NEED more WOMEN writing WOMEN (even better, women over 50). Look at that characterisation, look what Sarah can pull from it because it's written from a place of knowing. Spectacular
"Horrors BACK" horror has never left, horror has always been the most consistently exciting genre with the most remarkable box office turn out - the worlds just started to wake up to the power, brilliance and excitement it brings. Horror hasn't changed, snobbery has lessened.
I've been begging the theatre industry for years to understand that horror is a remarkable thing to present on stage and that audiences will come if it's there (as horror historically is a box office smash with loyal fans). Im so excited by this, one day it'll be my horror play!
Rees Mogg is my local MP and I'm happy to tell you that my mates Dad who is basically a non verbal autistic and has been most of his life got called on by Rees Mog and his cronies at home and he just opened the door, called him a cunt, and went back to playing minesweeper.
for those who weren’t listening the first time, a woman trying to write for theatre ISNT “the next fleabag”, doesn’t necessarily want to be “the next fleabag” and probably doesn’t have the privilege of wealth to be “the next fleabag”, so please… leave that comparison in 2016.
Women reclaiming their sexual identity and passion in a world that often oppresses it is such a wonderful thing to me! I vow to bring back erotic, vulgar, horny horror with as much gusto as Miss Carpenter has brought to pop.
hugely appreciative that
#LONGLEGS
plot hasnt been leaked anywhere, so much of cinema is now ruined by online spoilers or heavy handed reviews, it's nice to be seduced by a trailer and arrive at the cinema starved, ready to be fed.
by the way, my ambition is still to be the woman who brings female fronted horror to the main British theatre stage. There WILL be an all female horror on the west end and I will have written it... just give me time 😌
I'm gonna say it, I HATE the note "write what you know" SURELY that strangles creativity / imagination. We wouldn't have any of the wonderful, epic stories we do if we wrote from places of familiarity and safety. I get why people say it, but I loathe it.
Honestly, I feel like the UK film AND theatre industry look at how much horror succeeds in other countries and just goes "nah!"
uk! Please wake up and fund genre films and plays !!!! Horror and the UK are truly one of the oldest, most beautiful friendships.
a lot of people have messaged me about helping them with scripts and this is something I'd ❤️ to start doing. I've been studying scripts for 10+ years and writing for even longer, I've helped develop ideas for films that have gone on to win awards. If you need help, just DM me :)
in a slightly mad moment, I've decided I want to try and make a dent in my playwriting again. Film is paying off hugely, but I've always wanted to change theatres perception to horror 'specially when led by women. So yes, this week I'm going to start a fresh new horror play...
The horror community owes so much gratitude to
#InsideNo9
. Pemberton & Shearsmith bring everyone together, like great horror writers did once upon a night, to hear their wicked fables. Making horror accessible, reachable, watchable. We are transformed by no9, grateful for them ❤️
Inside No.9 (the series) finishes tonight with Plodding On. I was very fortunate to be on set for this one, including for the final day's filming — and for the final shot. It was emotional. Trust me, it's a fabulously fitting episode for this incredible show to sign off with.
Tomorrow I'll be on my first Hollywood movie... playing the lead actresses dead body. Yup, finally broke Hollywood only to play dead - mind you, at least it's in the Halloween spirit.
despite all that is going on, I feel very honoured that I am now being approached to write horror feature films, with big budgets and producers already involved. Though I am struggling, dreams are coming true.
my new play is called Cuckoo. It’s 3 women on stage for the entire time. It’s horror. It’s without mercy. It’s probably my darkest one yet. Who wants to read it after the next draft?
Hello flurry of new followers! I’m Becky ☺️ the most ambitious person you’ll meet. I want to bring female led horror to stage, create multiple female led horror films and write countless horror/dark comedy novels - all while supporting LGTBQ+ horror creators. X
4 years ago I began studying at the
@NationalTheatre
and it gave me a HARSH insight into being a female horror playwright. I took knocks because people were scared to produce what I wrote, but I still vow that one day I will stage an all female horror play on the west end.
I am sorry but Harry Melling’s face is getting its own tweet. Conventional beauty is all well and good, but looking like a beautiful haunted skull? Unconventional faces are my visions of masterpieces! He needs to be in horror URGENTLY
still surreal there's 5k of you. If we haven't met, I'm Rebecca:) my aspiration is to make female / queer led horror that is horny, frightful and beautifully written. I secretly plan world domination and to change horror forever with my work, but for now, hi ❤️
hello to all my new followers! I'm Rebecca! Recently had my first feature optioned and working on my first novel. My dream is to bring women, LGTBQ+, poc and disabled creators to the forefront of horror. I want to make my own horror unique, horny and feminine! Nice to meet you ❤️
Sydney Sweeney's unnerving new horror

BRITISH HORROR COMMUNITY: this year, I couldn’t have done without you. In 2023 I’d like to organise a gathering somewhere for all the UK horror community to meet, network, cuddle, kiss, make out… and just be creepy folk together. Who’d be in? Where would you want to meet? When?
HATE to flex, but recently been working with David Tennant on a project. I'm a body double for a lead, one morning he thought I was her and went to make an in joke, realised I wasn't her and then said "blondes your colour!". Went feral for two days.
@youngvictheatre
Theatres really don’t commission the “brave and diverse” works they often claim they do. A lot of diverse voices are still pushed to fringe and it’s the same stories being regurgitated at the top.
should side this with - as anyone in the industry knows - there's a helluva journey ahead with no guarantees and almost definitely nothing near a screen til next year/2025.. but bloody hell, celebrate whatever you can when you can, right?
just been booked to direct someone’s first feature - I’ll never stop being overwhelmed by the fact people believe in me and want me to help create their film, it’s an honour.
