working in film and TV I have heard producers say repeatedly no one wants women 40+ in lead, no one wants to fund regional female voices, no one wants to hear women be vulgar and swear. #HappyValley has proven every fucking one wrong. Viva La Sally Wainwright and Sarah Lancashire

Apple TV cancelling a show because a female character is unlikeable shows how fucking dull our industry is. The male gaze still longs for women to be palatable on screen and that's what suffocates us of interesting stories. Some of our best characters are wretched women.

What I really adore about #HappyValley is you have a female lead who is over 40, with complexity, comedy, tragedy, ferocity and written superbly, so much so that she out shines every male counterpart. It feels very rare to see this on screen, but @spiceyw does it easily.

LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL had me grinning until credits. Rarely to horror films fill a cinema with laughter, gasps, smirks and genuine moments of fantastic, practical gore. I understand the AI criticism, but what an original. Five stars, Dastmalchian is a leading man for sure.

As a woman who works in horror as a script reader, it is common to be given a script that has a graphic r*pe scene in which was obviously added in for titillation and fantasy than used as a genuine plot point. It's fucking tedious and shows we still exploit womens stories.

Today was my dad's funeral. One of his childhood friends gifted me a script my Dad had written when he was 15. It's a dark comedy involving Dracula. My heart is distraught, but I'm so honoured he was my Dad. And I hope I can be the horror film maker he helped me become ❤️

Actresses in horror have to fight so hard for respect. Many a time have I spoken to young actresses who have had graphic rape and nudity put upon them ON the day of shooting with a lot of pressure from male directors for them to comply to "last minute changes".

"Horrors BACK" horror has never left, horror has always been the most consistently exciting genre with the most remarkable box office turn out - the worlds just started to wake up to the power, brilliance and excitement it brings. Horror hasn't changed, snobbery has lessened.

I'm gonna say it, I HATE the note "write what you know" SURELY that strangles creativity / imagination. We wouldn't have any of the wonderful, epic stories we do if we wrote from places of familiarity and safety. I get why people say it, but I loathe it.

Honestly, I feel like the UK film AND theatre industry look at how much horror succeeds in other countries and just goes "nah!" uk! Please wake up and fund genre films and plays !!!! Horror and the UK are truly one of the oldest, most beautiful friendships.

Inside No.9 (the series) finishes tonight with Plodding On. I was very fortunate to be on set for this one, including for the final day's filming — and for the final shot. It was emotional. Trust me, it's a fabulously fitting episode for this incredible show to sign off with.

4 years ago I began studying at the @NationalTheatre and it gave me a HARSH insight into being a female horror playwright. I took knocks because people were scared to produce what I wrote, but I still vow that one day I will stage an all female horror play on the west end.

HATE to flex, but recently been working with David Tennant on a project. I'm a body double for a lead, one morning he thought I was her and went to make an in joke, realised I wasn't her and then said "blondes your colour!". Went feral for two days.

@youngvictheatre Theatres really don’t commission the “brave and diverse” works they often claim they do. A lot of diverse voices are still pushed to fringe and it’s the same stories being regurgitated at the top.
