On a serious note, thanks but no thanks. I absolutely want “disinformation.” I want bullshit, bad takes, and outright lies. I want cheats and hypocrites. You know why? Because I’m a free person. I don’t need the conclusion police, thank you very much.
A quick thread on great modern/postmodern buildings that rival any historic buildings.
I purposefully chose less well-known buildings/architects other than the typical ones, like Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright shown below. Let's begin with a little history.

No. 12: Grand World Phu Quoc Welcome Center by Vo Trong Nghia Architects. 2021. Phu Quoc, Vietnam.
(The building is made almost entirely out of bamboo)
So next time you see one of those posts about how we can't build great buildings anymore, send them this thread. We absolutely still build great buildings, they just may not be great in the same way!
Ok, Here is No. 1 –
Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe by Santago Calaytrava. 1996. Valencia, Spain.
(looks an awful lot like the buttresses of Notre Dame, huh? Look at all that light!!)
No. 6: Cathedral of our Lady of Angels by Rafael Moneo. 2002. Los Angeles, CA. The exterior is pretty solid because it's located directly next to the freeway, but the interior is stunning.
No. 8: Danish Jewish Museum by Daniel Libeskind. 2004. Copenhagen Denmark.
(The focus is the Holocaust, and it is designed to make the visitor uncomfortable on purpose. I have been to this building and it succeeds)
And a shameless plug of one of our buildings. ( I am not putting us even close to the same league as the great architects above)
The CC House by biloba Architecture, 2015. Charlotte, NC
No. 11: Desert Nomad House by Rick Joy. 2005. Tucson, AZ
(The juxtaposition of the corten steel on the exterior with the warmth of wood on the interior reflects the harsh nature of the desert)
No. 10: Phoenix Biomedical Sciences Partnership Building by CO Architects. 2017. Pheonix, AZ.
(Conceptually, the building is planned as a “canyon” with a lot of passive cooling features protecting the occupants from the harsh desert sun)
I am dumbfounded that the fusion breakthrough hasn’t completely shattered the world. We just solved the energy problem and any worry about global warming.* The need for 30 or 50 year sustainability goals essentially just vanished. Why is it so quiet?
Let’s take a look at one of the most famous historic buildings: Notre Dame in Paris, finished in 1260. Gothic architecture was all about one thing – light.
Many gothic buildings simply fell down during construction if they pushed it too far. (They didn’t exactly have structural calculation software, did they? – it was experience, trial, and error)
Master masons/architects we’re trying to make the structure as small as possible, and the stained glass as large as possible by using flying buttresses on the exterior of the building to resist the outward forces of the interior arches.
I’ve never understood why the Right believes in capital punishment for anything. It goes against everything they claim to believe: right to life and less government control. Maybe some of my right friends can try to make the case?
Why is it every time I see a dumbass take I check the profile and it’s a “journalist” and the guy taking them down is a mayonnaise attorney or some guy named Bob who swings a hammer for a living.
It’s not enough to like this on Twitter. We have to show our support for brave men like this. I will be reaching out to him to show my support. If you’re a North Carolinian, you should do the same.
UNC interim Chancellor Lee Roberts’ comments earlier this afternoon from the steps of South Building after he led police in restoring the American flag to the campus flagpole

No, allow me. Student loan debt is the lowest interest rate personal loan and is not a major deal for most people. It’s the last major debt priority on our budget spreadsheet. Credit card debt, rising because of inflation - is the real long-term risk to prosperity.
Welp, They kicked my son out for not wearing a mask. He took a rapid test 3 minutes before walking in the door (negative), so he was arguably the safest kid at school today.
Make it make sense…
In that same way, modern architects are trying to push the boundaries of the available materials as far as they can. Technological advances in steel, glass, and even wood have allowed for greater spans, more openness, and curvilinear shapes.
I play guitar fairly well. Would say intermediate level, but every time I pick up a guitar in public I suddenly forget every song I know and only remember the D chord. Why am I like this?
@Jusrangers
Every letter and plus sign that gets added gets closer and closer to the true figure - the individual. That’s how you show true compassion and solidarity. The problem seems to be making everyone part of a group identity, and using it for political purposes. It’s a shame.
When I first got on Twitter I thought the goal was to get a lot of followers. I realize now I just want some quality brains to kick around ideas with. The masses are no fun at all.
Remember like 3 years ago when JL and JP said everything would be viewed through the lens of oppressed versus oppressor and we all thought they were being hyperbolic?
Well, how do you feel now? Any intention to stand up against this absolute insanity?
Anyone?
The NPR station in my building is still empty. Every once in a while I’ll see someone wander in or out with a KN-95 mask on. Just in case you’re wondering where your federal dollars are spent, and on whom.
My feed is a bit too right leaning at the moment. Who are some good leftist follows who will engage in discussion without dogpiling or getting their followers to try and cancel you. Small or large accounts, doesn’t matter - as long as they’re sincere.

Those with the most insane or seemingly asinine positions need the most protection. Their ideas must be discussed, if even to sharpen your own. You need to reread Areopagaetica. Sad to see this view come from so many “intellectuals.”
One time I saw someone throw a whole bag of garbage out of their car window. My friend and I stopped and picked it up. We found some mail with their address on it, and drove to their house that night and dumped the whole bag all over their lawn.
An insurance company did a study showing coddled youth became clumsy adults. The company started donating “dangerous” playgrounds so the kids learned how to *not fall.* Their claims went down the next generation. I’ll see if I can find it.
Show this to your dad. Show this to your daughter. Show this to your grandmother. Ask them if they want to vote for this. Send them this and more. Point out this is in Texas. Texas.
Judging by the helicopter parents on the park jungle gym, we’re in for a world of hurt in about 18-24 years.
There are 5 year olds here whose parents are keeping them from falling - meanwhile my toddler is climbing the rock wall and going down the slide head first.
Thomas Jefferson read for 12-15 hours a day, including the entire history on the enlightenment and human Liberty. If not for him, I’m convinced we would not be living in the freest place on Earth. We need another Jefferson to tackle the creep of government into personal freedom.
"The killers are almost universally male, which is not a surprise: our culture has been demonizing masculinity and robbing young men of purpose for a long time."
