I only worked briefly in journalism but I know I would have been torn a new one if I tried to tell a one-sided story like this one. The bus lane citations are there for a reason! Talk to the passengers!
Have you been hit with a $100 bus-camera ticket in D.C. recently? More than 145,000 citations issued over the last 9 months.. totaling nearly $15 million in fines.
Maryland drivers lead the way, then DC, VA, and all over.
Here's what some drivers we spoke with had to say:
“those who can afford a bicycle” is such a bizarre phrase when discussing bikes and cars — even the most expensive bikes are cheaper than almost all used cars, to say nothing of insurance, maintenance, gas, etc.
This ballot measure would go beyond reversing car-free JFK by undoing the car bans along stretches of Martin Luther King Drive and Bernice Rogers Way that together form a bike and pedestrian spine along the length of Golden Gate Park.
Probably the only one on my TL watching the CMA’s (on after Jeopardy!) and Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood did a fun little anti-Trump diddy. Sorta surprised given the venue.

WILL MCAVOY, who just moderated the first 2020 presidential debate, wakes up in the middle of the night with a dry cough. he checks his phone, stares at it, and immediately throws it against the wall
I love being a transportation planner but it's really unfortunate how many people in our profession are sociopaths who want to do things like demolish homes to widen a freeway in 2020.
I don't really get why applying a vacancy tax to single-family homes and duplexes is supposedly politically unpopular. People hate living near vacant houses!
What are some surreal and unexpected ways in which climate change has affected your life? For me today it’s “visitor center in Death Valley closed due to hurricane”
at the grocery store instead of just an “international foods” section there should be an “intranational foods” section with like scrapple and cincinnati chili and that ice cream that people from texas like
In celebration of my appointment last month to SF's Redistricting Task Force, over the next several weeks I'm going to walk all 48 miles of Supervisor district boundaries in San Francisco!

Really hoping Gavin Newsom chooses chaos for his replacement appointment. Alyssa Milano, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nancy Pelosi, himself, etc. So many good options.
My most controversial urbanism opinion:
The City of Los Angeles should be building dozens of municipal parking garages throughout the city. They are necessary to make the transition to a car-light LA possible.
"No one has fought harder for tenants than Aaron Peskin. Throughout his career, he has championed renters' rights and is the best choice to keep San Francisco affordable, family-friendly, and pro-renter"
Grateful to earn the endorsement of the San Francisco Tenants Union!
A letter from Redistricting Task Force Member Chasel Lee, Vice-Chair Ditka Reiner, and myself regarding the San Francisco Elections Commission hearing tomorrow:

I’m a counterfactual (intact room, not-very-rich family) but I’d like to think this is more true than not. I think 1) being an only child and 2) living in a house with a basement offset the money thing.
Thank you to the Elections Commission for making the right choice and allowing me and my colleagues to continue our service. I would say “back to work” but we never stopped.
JUST IN: The San Francisco Elections Commission voted unanimously Friday not to remove the three volunteers it appointed to the city’s nine-member Redistricting Task Force despite concerns from some advocacy groups.
to be clear: there are good pizza places in San Francisco! The average pizza however is far worse than it should be in a city of SF’s culinary stature.
@JakeAnbinder
the mountainness of California was something I didn't fully appreciate until I came here. The highest point in the City of Los Angeles is higher than the high point of 27 states, including WV and PA.
It was a lightbulb moment for me when I realized that environmental activism and climate activism often have different goals, the former often with a massively outdated understanding of what we need to do to create a sustainable California.
I am increasingly of the opinion that the environmentalist movement's opposition to modernizing environmental laws for climate change and the housing crisis is an existential issue for Californians. This week I am extremely worried this problem can't be solved. 🧵
my big takeaway from yesterday's thread situation is something lots of YIMBYs smarter than me have already figured out: "eliminate single-family zoning" is not particularly convincing language, in no small part because normies don't know what zoning is.

Muni tracks finally got me while biking. Hate the irony of sustainable mode-on-sustainable mode violence. I’m mostly fine but there is something Incorrect about my shoulder.
Huge nerd moment for me: I just saw my first standard-issue California license plate beginning with 9! Must be a month or so old. They’re issued sequentially and they’ve been in the 8s for quite a few years now.
Thank you to the SF Elections Commission for appointing me to the City’s Redistricting Task Force! Honored and humbled. Looking forward to a very busy 10 months of maps, meetings, and making sure SFans are well-represented in local government! 🗳 🗺

at the time I considered them to be selfless giants but now as an adult I realize that they, too, just wanted to watch the games and probably didn't want to be at school
I also want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support, both directly to me and in public comment. Today could have been a very difficult day for me and you all made it so much better. I especially want to thank my coworkers at SFMTA and their immense support.
