I respect the right to protest, but calling for an intifada is calling for the murder of Jews. This is anti-Semitic hate speech and must not be tolerated.
There have been 3 fatal fires this week in Allegheny County. Space heaters are the cause of 30% of wintertime house fires. If you are a renter, your landlord must have heating systems sufficient to keep the indoor temperature above 60°.
Pittsburgh Police and Medics were involved in today’s response in Butler. They — along our firefighters and entire public safety apparatus — run toward danger every day. We owe a debt of gratitude to our first responders.
I was thankful to greet retired US Capitol Police officers Harry Dunn and Aquilino Gonell who protected the United States Capitol and the people inside on January 6. They were in

My political activism started on the University of Pittsburgh’s campus protesting the war in Iraq. I have picketed, petitioned, and boycotted. “There is only one solution; intifada revolution” is a chant calling for the murder of Jews around the world. It is not a call for peace.
Earlier today, I announced my campaign for City Controller here in Pittsburgh. I am a problem solver and have devoted much of my professional life to good government and sustainable fiscal policy.
Writing this on the lid of an order placed by kids speaking Hebrew is harassment. We all have a responsibility to speak out against hate.

today to discuss Trump’s 2025 Project, which aims (among many draconian policies) to eliminate the Dept of Education & ban abortion. As a woman, graduate of public schools, & daughter of a teacher, this is not the future I want nor do other Americans.

, Pittsburgh!! I have loved you since I’ve known you. (Photo below is from my first visit with Three Rivers Stadium in the background circa 1992.)
This is a threat to Jewish students and needs to be treated as such. We cannot tolerate behavior that encourages violence, even if it’s done tacitly. To those who haven’t yet condemned the terrorism that occurred on 10/7: It’s not too late. Please use your voice.

This is scrawled across the wall of Allderdice High School located in Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood, the predominantly Jewish community where the massacre at Tree of Life Synagogue took 11 lives in the worst attack against Jews in US history in 2018-story this afternoon
Today in Squirrel Hill. I will say it again: These words are a threat to Jewish people. Civic, political, and business leaders must loudly and publicly condemn anti-Semitism in all forms.
Urgent FYI to my fellow Democrats: YOU have the power to help
@KamalaHarris
win in November. Commit yourself to volunteering even once a month through Election Day. Canvass! Phone bank! Get involved!! Don’t wake up Nov. 6 wishing you had done more.
Thanks to
@EdVotersPA
for compiling the crazy advertising spending of PA's cyber charter schools: $16.8 million in '21-'22. If you think the

I’m not sure which statistic is most sobering from

Pennsylvania Forty Under 40 list! Read about the dedicated individuals continuing to make their mark on PA:
In 1992, my mom and I had our first political conversation. Her words still echo in my mind: “Don’t let anyone ever tell you what you can do with your body.” I was proud run with the support of
@PPAdvocatesPA
. I will always stand for bodily autonomy.

This is disappointing. Being gay isn't a lifestyle and
@MaulikPancholy
isn't promoting anything besides creating a more inclusive world. I graduated from CV; this program would benefit the community. I hope the district reconsiders.

“We’ve seen a rise in antisemitism and Islamophobia. I think it is incumbent upon anyone — a governor or anyone else — to speak and act with moral clarity when they see these issues.”
Twitter is wild. I deleted the photo of my nieces for their privacy. May we never stop celebrating Black freedom, liberation, and joy. I am thankful every day for Logan and Avery’s existence.
I was canvassing a block away when this shooting occurred and had to shelter inside someone’s home. This is an absolute tragedy. This country needs gun control. My thoughts are with Alex’s family and all who knew and loved him.
I always loved reading about the friendship between President Obama and Dr. Tom Coburn. After constituents complained he was photographed hugging the President, Dr. Coburn replied, "How better to influence somebody than to love them?"
The last several weeks have made it abundantly clear that we need more women in public office: Democratic women, Republican women, progressive women, conservative women, and apolitical women who just want to serve their communities.
Dr. Cyril Wecht was a legend among legends. He had a brilliant mind, a work ethic like no other, and was dedicated to his family and community. We are fortunate he called Pittsburgh home. My thoughts are with Mrs. Wecht, their children and grandchildren, and all who loved him.

is the real deal. “We can say we are for a progressive tax code and for fighting inequality, or we can support the SALT deduction. But it is really hard to do both.” Thanks for writing this,

Why are Democratic Party leaders fighting to get rid of one surprisingly progressive element of the 2017 tax bill?

It was an honor to speak and more importantly listen at the Building Trades this morning. Organized labor is the backbone of our region. I will always support our brothers and sisters in labor and hope to earn their support. Thank you for hosting me! ✊
Eighteen years ago, I joined

Just learned of the passing of .
@CaptainPAYGO
. Ed was highly respected in our budget world and a brilliant guy who I enjoyed getting to know and learn from. I’m going to miss our near constant emailing back and forth.
Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) not a fan of the bill at all: "I'm affronted by this assertion that we who live out here have to have a train, have to have a subway system or rail system to get ourselves around. We don't want that and we don't need that."
16 years ago, the first candidate I worked for was sworn into the US Senate. I am so thankful for the opportunity with Senator Casey and love seeing all the

Breaking: MLB is moving the 2021 All-Star Game out of Atlanta, the league announced.
"Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box," Commissioner Rob Manfred said.
I’m thankful for the fiscal prudence of the last two decades and the fund balance that has the city in a stable position today, one of two factors S&P and Fitch listed as reasons for our stability. (The other is our authority to increase property taxes.)
Earlier this week, our office sent a letter to the Mayor and City Council about the future of city finances as revenue expectations have changed drastically since they were certified last summer.
My friend & colleague, Ed Lorenzen, died with his son, Michael, 3 years ago today. Much was written about Ed in the days & weeks after his passing, but this quote from

We’ve had a charming four months with it, so we’ll probably be reading other things tonight. But thanks for reading and let us know if you have any questions!
Anyone else having a charming afternoon with the City of Pittsburgh’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report? No? Just me?

I’m so honored to share that our campaign has been endorsed by the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers! As the daughter, granddaughter, niece, and cousin of public school teachers, I am very proud to be the candidate of PFT teachers and retirees.
At the city level, our executive board has voted to endorse Rachel Heisler for city controller.
We are also endorsing Bobby Wilson, Bob Charland, Barb Warwick, Deb Gross, and Khari Mosley for city council.
Great choice. Nippon hiring Mike Pompeo to advocate for them in Pittsburgh increases the chances that this deal will fail.
Would be the first good thing he’s ever done for American workers.
Scoop: Nippon Steel has hired Mike Pompeo to help complete a proposed purchase of US Steel, a deal facing bipartisan opposition from Trump and Biden, sources told
