*me choosing to have a child*
"How do I explain to the child that expecting me to care about their problems and keep them healthy is an problematic expectation?"
@ibrake4ants
I'm seeing both. I'm a college kid whose friends are partying, going on cheap trips, my grandparents are close to 80 and refuse to stay home, constantly going out to gatherings and events. They all think I'm nuts
@notthechips
"An American refusing to go to Starbucks is actually more heroic than an Israeli going to prison for refusing to enlist in their army" - very serious people
Canada Seat Count Update (change from election):

CPC 91 (-30)

@nickbarden
If I had a nickel for every time this season a player in the Leafs organization attacked an opponent because they were mad at a goal they scored, I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it's happened twice
@walsha
If you're going to use a tragic death to make a point about head injuries, I would maybe make sure I hadn't made endless posts arguing that players getting suspended for targeting other player's heads was a "farce" because the targeted player "got up" from the hit
@PeteBlackburn
He was so incredibly sweet to Patrick Maroon and to opposing injured players who the play was stopped for because they were "still conscious," and to countless others (I understand he probably could be a really good guy, but there's a reason people are hostile towards him)
@JFreshHockey
San Jose should simply play him in games where he's going to save more than 94% shots and not play him in games where he's going to save less than 86%
@KarlBelanger
Very next interview with CBC, the host asked why he had flip flopped after saying he would not resign if he lost, and Lamont had to be like "wtf? I never said that"
@nikicaga
Had a professor a while back who had a 1.5 and all the comments were literally "if you don't read all the books, his exams are super difficult, AVOID WITHOUT EXCEPTION"
He taught fourth year *English lit* courses lol
I saw countless signs in Nepean today l about how "only the Liberals could beat the PCs in Ottawa West-Nepean," so of course naturally the NDP win and the Liberals finish a distant third
@Aseemru
Pushing aside stakes, from a strategic standpoint, you're going against a convict who holds unpopular positions on almost every wedge issue and hardly ever says a sentence that makes real sense. Keeping a candidate who has somehow *greater* negative attention right now is insane
@NoLayingUp
Literally nothing about Block has made me tired or upset about the story until this...like this is a club pro saying he's as good at hitting his irons and wedges as RORY MCILROY 😭😭
@Senators
For those who don't want to listen
"We did a lot of good things"
"I thought we did enough"
"Bad breaks, I can't fault the effort"
No accountability, like usual.
I can't understand this. Not vetting someone thoroughly is one thing. Not vetting them on the literal thing they're being "honoured" for is another. But you're telling me not one person was smart enough to ask themselves, "Wait a sec, if he was fighting against the Soviets..."
@DrewSav
Trump has been having a weeks-long temper tantrum because he doesn't have his dream matchup anymore and it is so funny to see Rs try to spin it otherwise
@TheFourthPeriod
@dj_mitchell94
Detroit paying a 2nd to get rid of Walman and then spending a king's ransom for John Gibson would be an Atlantic division rivals' dream
Imagine being the OLP leader, knowing that your party got more votes than the NDP (as of now) and still is winning 20 less seats than them, and the first thing you do in your speech is fawn over "how amazing our democracy is" lol. Just top-tier
@BKoepka
@LIVGolfInv
From winning 4 majors in 2 years to teaming up with the 172nd ranked player in the world and your kid brother who can hardly make a cut on the Korn Ferry Tour lmao. Moving on up
@JFreshHockey
I feel like I'm losing my mind with this Quinn stuff lol. Makar is higher in expected goals, penalty differential (by a lot), assists per 60, and their expected goals% and shot shares are pretty much same. Quinn just has 5 (!) goals more above his shooting talent
@CUPBOUNDLEAFS
Leafs having their

D-man take himself out of your next few games when you're battling for a playoff spot? Heck, inject that into my veins too!
@unsensrd
@TSN1200
The whole "if the fans knew best, they would be coaching" is so silly because the NHL constantly employs coaches and managers who have very little success. It's impossible to have the 32 NHL coaches be the 32 most knowledgeable hockey people in the world
@TheStanchion
What both sides of the coin have in common - player safety does not matter. Hockey culture says that winning is more important than player safety, and also that hurt feelings are an excuse to jeopardize player safety
@DrewSav
Same reason people were so much harsher on Biden than Harris — rhetoric matters. It's not some conspiracy. Also the Ben and Jerry's stuff was strange and not the kind of thing Walz has ever been involved in.
@ibrake4ants
Probably a part of it. But I'm in Québec where are our government has been competent, explicitly stated to follow a set of guidelines, and people just aren't.
@ImNotOwned
I don't think I've ever seen a politician so consistently strong in TV appearances. Always gets his points across, always in command, always level-headed. Always produces positive soundbites and never anything that can be spun as controversial.
It’s 2040. Canada welcomes 2M immigrants every year. Almost everyone lives in densified large cities and uses public transportation because combustion-engine cars are banned and EVs cost a fortune. No one owns much but everyone is happy.
@joeyferg
It is so funny to have Toronto's former top 5 picks and Ottawa's former top 5 picks having highlight reel goals and assists for their teams night in and night out, then you turn to Montréal and it's like "hey our number one pick stickhandled well for a few shifts tonight:)"
@JFreshHockey
Leafs are the absolute worst power play I've ever seen, and the Bruins have 0 shots 5 on 5 almost halfway through the second period. At this point, Florida should just get a bye through the next round.
@adplacksports
Scottie running away while Tommy gets a top 5 where he never had a chance, X limps into a top 10, and Cantlay gets a top 10 out of nowhere after never being in the tournament is so on brand it was almost predictable
@JFreshHockey
This is what makes me so annoyed about so much of the discourse on Ottawa: they're an imperfect bubble team who so many are convinced absolutely suck because of their horrific goaltending.
@grewdillis
And it's not really close. The re-recordings aren't as good, and the vault tracks (while on their own not bad) decrease the average quality since they're not as good as the originals
@BigHeadHcky
My hot take is that Lemieux might be the greatest ever. Look at some of his dead puck era numbers. Put up almost a goal a game in 2001 after 3 years off! Put up 91 points at age 37 and a 70 point pace in limited action at age 40!
Steve Paikin's on a role right now.
Told Ted Hsu "nice guys finish last" and that maybe he should've been a "mean son of a *****"
Now just says to Dalton McGuinty with no context, "you are older than your father lived to be...your dad died shovelling snow"
@CPowers14
The idea that some elite player would not even try to qualify for the US Open is really funny to me - lots of great players have had to go through sectionals at some point
Steve Staios is an absolute joke - all this talk about needing to be "best in class" as POHO, and all he does is hire himself as GM and hire pretty much the worst coaching candidate possible.
If the Sens challenge next year, expect it to be in spite of Green.
@Senators
*Sens win 10-0 with 5 goals each by Stützle and Debrincat and a 70 save shutout for Cam Talbot*
DJ: "well guys, all I want to say is the Gambrell line was amazing again"
The ONDP is clearly not the federal NDP because we're seeing by-elections tonight where the ONDP look like they're gonna gain serious ground compared to the last election
@SunGarrioch
I don't even mind working in-person, and I'm open to certain arguments for it, but "people need to work in-person so that businesses downtown get more money" is a ridiculous argument - this is the free market, baby
@BigHeadLeafs_
That hockey players are a part of a hockey culture that always cares more about hurt feelings than injuries? Yeah, that sounds about right
(Also, I think interpreting Giroux's interview like that is probably reading too much into it)
@EvolvingWild
It just seems wild they even have hit to the head rules if they're gonna twist themselves in circles to define a hit where the principal point of contact is the head legal
@jakebeleafs
They gun for the best players to try to win the cup every year. No spending picks on 7th D, no refusing to sell an asset because it might become a third liner in the last year of their window.
During the next vote for speaker, I believe Hakeem Jeffries will become the candidate to receive the most votes for speaker in their career since the 1800s
@DrewSav
As much Trump is divisive, people are also familiar with him and a bit desensitized. Focusing more than usual on the lesser known one on the ticket who has almost nothing appealing to swing voters going for him seems smart
@TSN_Sports
I get the Leafs have had some rough calls lately, but the nonstop whining is insufferable. I would love to have a conversation on making reffing better, addressing biases, etc. But the "us against the world" thing is cultish and unproductive.
@MikeBartner
Valabik played 80 NHL games of super tough defensive minutes and generally put up somewhat respectable results - Tyler Boucher has only played 88 games of competitive hockey in the last four years and and has been bad when he has played, so I think he might be my pick here tbh
