Congestion-pricing parade. I’m not making fun of them; I think people should peacefully rally for what they believe in. But 50 people, nearly all white, nearly all male, just aren’t a mass constituency Hochul will be moved by.
Problem: Some migrants aren’t scraping their plates
Solution: sign no-bid deal with unproven vendor enabling city to disburse potentially billions of dollars in untraceable cash to tens of thousands of untraceable people &publicly call it a small “pilot”
So, which NYC elected official (repping state or city) actually lives the pro-street life? No speed/red tickets, only rides in a car a couple times a year (whether driving it or not), takes transit, bikes or walks to virtually all personal or biz engagements?
We could actually use the congestion pricing cameras for lots of useful things … immediately flag vehicles with fake plates, revoked registration, unpaid speed/red tickets to nearby cops and intercept.
Either our fifth or sixth subway murder of the year (there’s a homicide in Bkyn station earlier this month where it’s not clear where victim was attacked). Lack of congestion pricing is not the acute crisis here.
horrific preventable crimes, including kidnap/rape of the child in Queens last week. The “disinformation” class is going to have to acknowledge that it was unwise to open the borders to millions of unvetted young men. Girls and women are paying the price.
Panic backfires. If MTA will instantly collapse without instant 5% hike in naturally growing annual revenues, this wasn’t a thoughtful congestion-targeting plan but a desperate tax. Calm yourselves and devise better plan (no 24/7 toll).
The 6/30 truthers are getting to be a bit much. This was a bad plan. A 24/7 toll is not a congestion toll; it’s a tax. The law was written to give the governor the final say. Move on to a better plan and better law.
In other news, Mayor Adams has loaded the migrant debit cards up with another million dollars (and fees). No word of whether this means pilot “succeeded” and is being expanded or what. Radio silence.
@EjmEj
Facts support her. No, the way she went about pausing CP wasn’t great. But there is no immediate MTA cap or op crisis. Plenty of time to figure out more modest CP plan appropriate for Manhattan recovery. 6/30 truthers look increasingly unhinged &only alienate any compromise.
Gov. Hochul continued to push back against a “doomsday day” scenario around subway service. She says operating budget will ensure good train service, and that she still wants to do big capital projects like 2nd Ave subway.
