Catchers are a special breed. They are warriors that bleed with a smile on their faces. They let their personalities come out in their catching style and most importantly they understand how to manipulate the ball and the game. It’s a beautiful thing

Learning how to swing without talking about the swing.
Becoming more athletic without a word about athleticism.
Figuring out contact points. How the feet work. Timing. How to use the lower half.
All from a drill that simply tells the hitter to “hit the ball.”
The motto for today is “Embrace the Suck”. It is the same conditions for both sides so the team that uses the conditions to spark energy and excitement will come out on top

As a catcher, staying healthy is KEY!! Not enough coaches or players spend the proper time preparing the lower body for the stresses of the position. Here is the routine my catchers do everyday: before, after and in their free time

I would HIGHLY recommend every coach watch this video posted by the University of Alabama’s sports psychologist in regards to the Tom Izzo situation. Incredible stuff!
Catchers throw more than any other player and while every throw may not have a high intensity, it will take its toll. What are you doing as a coach to keep them healthy? Here is the routine I use with my catcher. DM me if you have any ?s

I’ve been doing these drills for years as a player and a coach. My dad introduced fun drills like this to me when I first started playing
#BaseballIsFun

Catching a pop-up is hard enough for catchers, but when adding in the challenges of just finding the ball off the bat or avoiding the umpire or hitter, it’s even harder than we think. That’s precisely why
@tigers
practice those exact challenges.
#STdrills
After my 6th year my take away is this: Let them be athletes! Let them be athletes in the box. With 2 strikes. When leading off. Fielding ground balls. On the mound. Athletes compete and won’t quit. Robots shut down

I have spent a considerable amount of time in the cages this past month and I have an Interesting observation. Our best hitters ask themselves if they swung at the right pitch before they start tinkering with mechanics.

Wow, brutal take. I’ve offered more than a handful of guys I have found on Twitter. Are you implying that players shouldn’t have recruiting profiles either? Players are just supposed to hope they are born in the right geographic and socioeconomic region to be seen?

Hitters just remember, you are supposed to get out! Tinkering with every swing is a great way to create paralysis by analysis. Trust the process, get in the box and treat your swing like the violent action it is

Competition is a major part of development. Competition drives our practice designs and the way we interact with our peers. Competition without fun can be destructive. Remember to play, smile and have fun. When we have fun we compete naturally.

Today’s focus is on the intrinsic feedback loop. The objective of the drill is to be as direct and efficient to the ball as possible using music, under load/over load bats and different height tees. We are trying to allow the player to become his own coach.

Part 1: Things I’ve learned since I started coaching college baseball:
1. Listen ( there is always a smarter person in the room)
2. Be humble ( it is better get it right rather than be right)
3. Don’t be sarcastic (dissolves trust)
HITTERS: Your top focus to become a great hitter is to simply barrel the baseball. Once you can do that consistently- regardless if that's in the air, on the ground, or on a line- you'll be able to learn how to drive the ball and do damage because you have the hardest part down.
Routines are important. In baseball, school, family and life. Don’t be afraid to find what works and be consistent with it. It will help you navigate the daily adversity and chaos.

Stretching creates separation of the hips and hands. This allows tension. It also allows us time to make a decision. We can commit the hips without committing the whole swing. Beautiful video to watch!

I actually wrote my thesis on this. On average, after a 10 year career, catchers have significantly healthier knees than other positions. Squats decrease knee laxity and strengthen muscles around the joint. We were born to squat!
I was just hired as a recruiting coordinator for the Southern Shores Pro League so if you are looking to continue your career please DM me for more info. Spread the word to anyone you know that’s looking for an opportunity!

In the past couple of days I’ve watched Major League teams: delay steal, bunt to move runners over, hit behind the runner purposefully and 2k approach. Yes there is a lot of strikeouts and fly balls but there is a ton of great baseball still to watch

Situation too big? Try this: •Breath in for 4 seconds. •Hold your breath for 6 seconds. •Exhale for 8 seconds. •Repeat. This causes an autonomic nervous system shift from a sympathetic (fight or flight) state to a parasympathetic response(aka. It calms you down)

Multi-planar plyometric movements for pitchers. Rudimentary and advanced examples shown. NOT “pitching specific”. Multi-planar athleticism affords a greater solution space for movement on the mound.
@ClemsonBaseball
Thought of the day for hitters: If you aren’t incredibly confident with your 2k approach then stop getting to 2ks! Develop an aggressive plan early and try to ambush something. If you are wrong so what! Swing early, Swing often and try to do damage until 2ks.
Get the ball in your throwing hand when making the arm fake during a 1st & 3rd play? Or leave it in the mitt like Gomes does here?
Either way, you gotta sell the arm fake to get the runner at 3rd to bite... he gone!

Due inclement weather the JV team will be headed home early. In my eyes it was a successful road trip in which we persevered, learned and grew as a team. The great thing about baseball is there’s always another game
